I was told the liner is great until it's not. Once it starts to deteriorating, it's a nightmare to remove. So, I've never sealed my tanks. Rusty tanks, I pour vinegar in and let it set for a couple of days. Rinse out with baking soda and dry. Spray WD-40 in so it doesn't flash rust.

Agreed! If you think the old tank is good, gi rent or borrow an inspection camera, usually intnded for cylinder inspections. You can rent from the local auto store if you dont have friends with one. Use your noggin. If it looks sketchy in there, seal it! If it looks pretty darn good, don't, you'll regret it. If it's a bit of surface rust, throw in some stainless steel nuts and some seafoam, or marvel and swirl it. Dont shake it. Rinse with some dishsoap and heat dry.

As long as the sealer was applied properly, it won't hurt it... Though, eventually that sealer will come off, and will clog your filter/petcock... Just be aware, in the event you start having fuel starvation issues. (could be 10 years, could be never)

Never put that crap in your tank.

Fuel tank liner is one of the worst products invented. it "CAN" work well, but large majority of home hackers, fail to apply it perfectly, and eventually it starts coming off in chunks, or creates a goo... both of which play hell with filters and petcocks. Ask me how i know. 😑

I can’t believe people put this shit in tanks. When did this become a thing? Unless you have some old crappy vintage tank, full of pinholes, that you can’t fix or replace , it’s totally unnecessary. If it’s bad inside, clean the rust using the age old methods, put a clear filter in the line and watch for the rust build up. Guaranteed this rubbish will cause more grief later on than rust.
