Dr Grande: My sister was shot by a man she never met and didn’t know about 37 to 38 years ago. The only reason he was caught is a few months later he tried to shoot my uncle who my sister lived with at the time. He had a previous history of violence and had been stalking my sister though she never noticed him. Some people are just disturbed and you can’t really analyze that high form of irrationality and evil. By the way my sister lived through the shooting though she ended up becoming a paraplegic, being shot in the 13th vertebrae. He missed my uncle who was left unscathed.

I think that was the working theory of the investigation, and it sounds like the most credible possibility and motive. Most cosplay people are healthy, normal, creative adults who engage in it for fun. Those groups are unfortunately also attractive to individuals who have mental health issues of the kind that makes their perception of reality distorted. It's not just celebrities who are targeted by people they believe that they have a close/romantic relationship with, so the husband doesn't even have to factor in in this case. The obsession may have been centered around Liz herself. I had a "benign" stalker for years, so those killers are the scariest of all to me... 😱
@tiredofitall9213

This is the theory that I immediately thought of as well. I thought someone must be jealous of her life and / or was in love with the husband? I definitely think the killer was part of the cosplay community and knew Liz. I hope they can find the killer soon 🙏🏼 ❤️

@@desertgrowndank7256 When some rando intent on killing you shows up, has a conversation for a few seconds, then pulls a gun out, it wouldn't matter how many guns they owned, because she was alone. It would be impractical to have a gun drawn and ready while setting up for a garage sale. She would have been on the ground before she knew what was happening, so even if she had it on her hip, it's very unlikely she could have successfully drawn, aimed and fired between falling over and being shot in the head.

Too many coincidences. Last minute garage sale. Stalked the night before to get the layout of the land. Knew the husband wouldn’t take the day off to help with the garage sale. Elizabeth left to go to Starbucks and the killer patiently waited for her to come back alone because they knew she would. Husband leaves and a few minutes later she is killed. Again, how does the killer know/predict their schedules? Not to mention he is the beneficiary of the $500,000 life insurance policy. The parents are the ones raising the reward money and he pledges nothing? Even if the money hasn’t been released to him, he could still pledge a portion of it, but he won’t.

@@Chris-tg3qy none of their actions indicate that they knew what would happen or her schedule, rather that they were watching and waiting for an opportunity. They had been there for quite a while if that opening hadn't happened they might have sat there even longer waiting. Knowing somebody's schedule speaks more to arriving right after the husband left and shooting her and going. It could still have been a murder for hire, that would explain why the person spoke to her, possibly making sure they had the right target. It could have also been some other person that wanted her out of the picture, like was mentioned a romantic rival.
@Chris-tg3qy
@Chris-tg3qy Жыл бұрын
@@JessicaO490Z I beg to differ. The killers definitely knew she would be outside and working the garage sale by herself. Sergio helped with some of the heavier objects and there was no reason to believe he wouldn’t stick around and help with the garage sale unless someone knew his schedule. They knew he wasn’t sticking around. It looks like they had a pretty good idea she would be coming back from Starbucks and that she would be alone. They also didn’t count on their actions being recorded the night before and that morning. Had their actions not been recorded, then we wouldn’t know this was a hit. That would be one possibility, but another possibility would be that this was just a random shooting, but the recordings tell us this was definitely a targeted hit and not random. I do think they knew she would be outside working a garage sale that morning and they knew approximately what time she would start doing that and that she would be alone. Even though her husband lives in the home with her, they had a pretty good idea he would leave early and before any garage sale traffic started to show up. They knew they had a small window of time to do it. For whatever reason they wanted Sergio gone, but they also needed it done before garage sale shoppers started to show up to avoid witnesses. As far as what they said to her, it’s my understanding it was a derogatory comment. I believe the police are able to make out some of it and it doesn’t sound like they were confirming her name. The note was odd, but could have been meant to throw off the investigation by appearing to be something it wasn’t. It could have been left there to make the police think it was a random garage sale shopper or that it would point to someone else intentionally to take the eyes off of the real motive. Since the entire shooting is on camera the note may not make a lot of sense. The note could be a red herring. Notes and messages left at a murder scene oftentimes are meant to throw off the investigation.

An interesting case. Perhaps a female who had a romantic fixation on Sergio and who wanted the wife out of the picture unbeknown to Sergio. As pointed out, the individual knew about the garage sale; picked an appointed time; evidently had an idea when Sergio would leave; allowed Elizabeth to approach them; and then shot her by thrusting the gun forward--which strikes me more a move an inexperienced female shooter may use. Returning to the scene and driving down a dead-end street indicates a desperate suspect in total disarray.

There’s a theory that she had a road rage incident the night before with the person in this truck. The person followed her home, which is why they were in the neighborhood the night before, and they just were so angry and mentally ill they waited her out, and took their chance and killed her. I think the killer got extremely lucky and just managed to escape and not be caught on camera by pure chance.

Occam's razor points to this being the most likely reason. Rad rage is more believable to me than unstable cosplayer (There is plenty of them though, as a geek, the community is filled with mental issues) or hit. That's sad. I used to be in the 501st Legion the Star Wars cosplay group Liz was in. I retired from it in 2007 and the scene changed a lot since then and has grown in popularity. One thing that was apparent when I was involved is the fan cosplay subculture inadvertently attracted people who were very socially dysfunctional and can display unhinged behavior problems. A very small minority of course, but they were integrated in the community. During my time in it, there were a few people kicked out because they were toxic and caused problems with others. One person who was banned from our local group ended up going to prison later on for child molestation. Needless to say we were all relieved he was banned when that news was learned.

@@chrisgraham2327 that’s a good question. I am constantly finding myself feeling momentary surprise when I learn of something that I saw coming or should otherwise not be shocked by. For example, I follow politics and yet find myself feeling this shocked sensation pretty regularly, despite the fact that I’m fully aware of the corruption of most politicians and the high percentage of psychopathy in government. I spend a large amount of time each day, however, making an effort to be virtuous. Much of my decision making and thinking is directed by this. I have a bit of a problem in over-doing this, actually. My theory is that evil behavior is so opposite of my mental habits that it feels impossible for just a split second, because it would be so impossible for me to commit evil acts. Then I remember that most people are lukewarm evil and many are fully evil. And I proceed to wonder why I’m constantly surprised! It is a weird phenomenon, totally irrational.

You completed your analysis a while back since then Sergio has come out with a very interesting interview. Fact: Sergio states there was a 500,000 insurance policy on Liz that he didnt know about. He first says he didnt take the insurance money because he didnt need it but follows up with if he ever takes it he will give some of the money to her parents. Im wondering since it was a murder and if hes still under suspicion that the insurance Co. is not releasing it. Also if he doesnt need the money like he said why not use it to help find the killer? Fact: He also said that Liz wasnt worried about any thing or afraid but then he says he told Liz, " If anything happens open the door(the alarm door) and I will come right away.. Why would he say that if truly nothing was going on and Liz wasnt worried about anything? I understand that Liz had her apt robbed and that its a violation, also that she might still be scared, but Sergio said she wasnt? If she was, why have the Garage sale? Would like to know you Analysis on the newer interview.

I think its a woman who shot Liz. The walk, the robe, the hair, and it looks like she had on white boots or boot slippers. But most of all the walk is pissed off woman on a mission! Liz and the killer may be the only people who know why it happened. Liz may not have told anyone about having an issue with someone because she thought it was taken care of and over. But a grudge was kept for sure. Three places to look, Liz's work, Sergio's work, or the cosplay group. I think about this case a lot because its so incredibly tragic. It seems this woman had no skeletons in her closet but someone came after her anyway, thats scary. RIP Liz and I hope Sergio is healing.

Sergio can insist that they had a good marriage and he very much loved Liz all he wants but the cynic in me says otherwise. This brutal murder was either carried out by his new wife killing her or a murder-for-hire scenario. Frankly, to me the killer moved with the gait of a female ergo I suspect it was likely his new wife and the motive was to be free of the marriage and to receive a large insurance settlement. I'm sure they checked his cell phone to see if he called someone in the area immediately after he left the home to inform them she was alone with no customers around, so if that showed nothing then he used a burner phone and the killer possibly had one also. Since the killer seemed unfamiliar with guns then it increases my suspicion it is his new wife. No one but him had the motive to kill her.

I disagree with Dr. Grande"s conclusion that the husband was not involved. Looking at the evidence I believe the husband set up the murder - it's the only conclusion that makes sense. It wouldn't be first time someone killed their spouse just to avoid the ordeal and financial loss of divorce - and this very plausible motive is not entertained here. The fact that outwardly they had what appeared to be a happy marriage is irrelevant - most couples keep their problems private and often one of the partners is unaware of how discontented the other partner is - this is typically the case in premeditated marital homicides. The killer knew about the unpublicized garage sale, that Liz would be outside setting up at a very early hour, and knew exactly when Sergio was leaving for work - appearing only a few minutes after. There's also evidence the killer may have known about the security cameras both at the home and across the street - hence the probable disguise. All these factors indicate that the killer was informed to a degree far beyond what might be gleaned in casual conversation with Sergio or Liz. There was nothing in anyone's account of Liz's character to support the theory that she could have offended someone so deeply, or evoked such jealousy that they would want to kill her. If Sergio had been the object of someone's romantic attachment he would surely have known who that person was - or at least might be - and shared the information with police. It's extremely improbable that a woman would have murdered Liz to be with Sergio unless she already had a connection to him and reason to believe that her drastic action might succeed in her being with Sergio.

he made sure she would be outside and alone tending to the garage sale. he signaled to the perpetrator that she was there and vulnerable when he left for work, giving himself an alibi and ensuring that things would go as planned. apparently her life insurance policy doubled to 500k in the event of a murder so he had motive and would know the exact timeline required for opportunity. now the question is who is close enough to him to where they don't need to communicate electronically and where any payment could be shared without causing suspicion? they'll have to extend the search to the friends and family of him and his new wife's friends and family in order to find the gun/truck combo. it's only a matter of time.

This case reminds me Daniela Cecchin, who is an infamous italian murder. She was an instable woman in her mid 40s without a family, that one day by chance, recognized in the street a fellow student of university, who 20 years earlier was kind with her. He owned a pharmacy in Florence, he had a nice wife and family. Daniela started to develop a deep hate for his wife (Rossana D'Aniello) because she thought that she has stolen what could have been her life. On Saturday morning, when her husband was at work, she pretended to be a courier to deliver a package to Rossana, and she stabber her to death. I see many similarities to this case, an homicide without a motive, carefully planned by a person full of hate . The husband did not even remember Daniela Cecchin when she was arrested, as she made the big mistake to stalk the victim before by calling her and this is how they have found her. I would not be surprised that something similar has happened

The perpetrator knew what angle the camera on the house was positioned so calculated not to get caught on it..That murder was well planned ahead of time. I would really question who brought the idea of that particular garage sale to "buy" souvenirs on their upcoming trip since they didn't have any economical problems but unfortunately, she died so that little detail will never be answered truthfully. @@cottontails9003 Hello lovely. ❤️ That had to be rough on you and your family. I'm glad you have Steve and the twins to help and comfort each other. Not sure if that came out right, but I care about you, and am praying for you. I'm taking pain killers because I 'slightly' reinjured my back. Because I'm a clutz. I hope today is a better day.❤ Much love and healing hugs to you, sis. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I feel like with some effort the police could find the killer. I agree with Todd's analysis, in one of my jobs I observed that some people get offended by minor things that are not about them at all and on the flip side would be completely outrageous and expect others to not mind - I lost all remaining faith in humanity during that time.

What a crazy case. It doesn't seem like the likely suspect list could be that big.

It looks like she greets the attacker warmley then is taken by suprise by seeing the gun as she takes a step back in fear. Such a sensless murder

Such an abstract killing with no obvious motive suggests it was an online dispute, maybe in the dms, a banning. Or someone with paranoia in the cosplay community who invented a love triangle scenario or just a straight-up imagined slight. Leading to a "revenge" killing. The killer obviously wanted her to know who they were, the verbal exchange probably being them telling her their username. So it'll be someone in the very competitive cosplay community, likely a 'nobody' with the typical socially awkward, mental health difficulties profile. A person living alone or jobless but with support (spouse or parent), who could travel to the location for the day and not raise any questions about where they were.

I think the disguise/costume on the killer was done on purpose because they knew there was cameras and to push blame or thoughts on it must of been someone from the 501st group or the costume group Liz used to work at.. so to point the finger away from the killer I think the killing HAD to be done that day before the vacation.. because not many killers will hang around for 4 hours in the area waiting for the opportunity and Liz was methodical and organised type person and in my opinion would NOT of held a garage sale 2 days before a vacation unless there was a money issue I think Sergio had to be seen to leaves the house before the killing so he had an airtight alibi he was at work and to avoid him getting hurt I think Sergios interview throws up a few red flags.. for example.. he called the alarm being set off as weird and strange (yet this was a system him and Liz had set up so he would know somethings wrong) he didnt try to ring Liz first he rang her parents.. and THEN said "my first call was to my father" (why would you ring you father and tell him something had happened to Liz when you didnt even know at that point,, and why ring him when you were just with him a few minutes ago cos you told him you would have to go home somethings wrong) In another interview he said his father had a motive for wanting Liz dead (someone pointing finger away from himself?) Sergio said he hadnt claimed the insurance money (which would double if she was murdered) because that would make people look at him even more so yes I think Sergio and his father know everything

Yes, I think this was a Star Wars nerd murder. Like many on-line Taylor Swift fans, Star Wars geeks can be highly proprietary, emotionally and socially walled off, silo'd in their parallel universes - and plot bizarre assassin/murder scenarios in their respective fantasy cocoons against real and imagined enemies. That this killing hasn't been solved after five years - and the affluent make of the perp's vehicle - strongly suggests both the severe emotional isolation of the killer and the likelihood they came from a well-to-do area of Houston. Alot of rich Star Wars groupies - it's an expensive hobby.

The killer is almost certainly a woman based on the video. That's a woman's walk -- not a.man's. Not wearing a robe, but rather a loose-fitting dress, like a mu-mu. A big woman and probably overweight with a poor body image. Almost certainly someone who worked with Sergio and knew his schedule. I think you were correct that it was a woman who had fantasies about Sergio and may have been irrationally jealous that the couple was going on vacation together.

Sergio got married not long after Elizabeth was killed. He probably knew his new wife before Elizabeth's death. Maybe Sergio had a secret girlfriend and wanted to marry her. So, Sergio and his girlfriend plotted to kill Elizabeth. Sergio and Liz didn't need the garage sale to raise money for their trip. Sergio might have suggested the garage sale to get his wife out in the open for a 'chance' shooting, but also needed an alibi, so he made sure he was at work. Maybe Sergio texted (or walkie-talkied) his girlfriend who was in the pickup truck to signal her when he left for work, and that's why the pick-up truck was waiting in a nearby car park. If it was his girlfriend who actually killed Elizabeth, this may explain the awkward handling of the gun, the long hair and the female-like anxiety shown by the driver who drove back to the scene to make sure Elizabeth was dead. Additionally, Elizabeth seemed to recognize this person before the shooting, like she was an acquaintance. And so that's why there was a short conversation, and Elizabeth probably said, "Hi, how are you?" or something similar, before being killed. As for only shooting 4 bullets, I bet the shooter wasn't even considering the number of bullets.

Could you imagine if someone in the neighbourhood owned that truck, or there was a safe house nearby? I agree with the cosplay angle. Can't the police track cell phone data on the morning of the crime? I thought that was how they caught on to the Long Island killer.

Why is this case unsolved ? It's obvious who's responsible for this . First off, it's personal, second, it's not at all random , its not a robbery, this was murder , he know who killed her thats why he not crusading for her justice, he probably didnt even move away . SO SAD ! NO JUSTICE!

Dearest Dr. Grande, I've found myself somewhat addicted to your very interesting content, therefore, watch your videos quite frequently and enjoy each one! Always look forward to seeing your opening introduction....with your signature cacti a familiar presence in the background. However, the purely BLANK wall in view lately is a bit mind-frazzling, at least for me, as it's helpful to have something(s) to view/focus while the brain is processing information, if you understand my concept. Many thanks!!
