Toddler 'Back to His Normal Self' After Falling Down Pipe

A 14-month-old is "back to his normal self" after being rescued from an underground PVC pipe. Bentley fell down a pipe after he apparently stepped on the unsecured cover. A surveillance camera captures the moment his dad ran to the front yard after being alerted by his wife's screams. First responders were finally able to recuse the toddler by using a makeshift catch pole. Inside Edition's Megan Alexander has more.

If there was no cover, the baby instinctively would have seen not to walk there. The cover was unsecured, like a trap door. I think that's the round cover, top right at 1:10

@@frey8725 the PoliceActivity channel has the rescue. About 45 seconds in a guy says bentley was just "walkin' around, stepped on the lid and it rotated around"...they were there. Ck out that channel, it's about 25 minutes and right at the start, the green cover is beside the hole. So there

I was just watching a Movie a few days ago based on something very similar to this that happened decades ago and it took them days to rescue that little girl, thankfully this 1 was done quickly

Yeah baby Jessica was stuck much deeper and in a much smaller (narrower) well hole so it was harder to rescue her. Luckily this hole was much wider and shallower that they could get baby out easier.

So, it's an open hole near the house and they thought it was okay to let their 14-month-old to play around it. Got it.

No, it had a lid on it but as he stepped on one side it dislodged the top and flipped open. Just a wear and tear problem and fortunately the pipe didn't go into a drainage system where it kept going, it wasn't very deep you could see the bottom and the toddler was standing, he was just deep enough to be out of reach and too young to be able to follow instructions.

Makes me remember “Baby Jessica” McClure, 1987, who fell down an 8-inch well shaft at her aunt’s home. She was 18 months old, and it ended up being a 56-hour ordeal that kept the entire nation riveted to the news and hoping and praying for her rescue. She was rescued safely but later had to have a toe amputated due to blood loss caused by her leg being suspended up over her head during those long hours. She retained no memory of the event afterwards.
