@@LaughingMan44 Yes, to be able to shoulder a weapon and aim with it, is an overlooked feature. Its no wonder that handgonnes were not revolutionary in warfare even though they were more powerful than bows and crossbows, only with the later invention of the arquebus, which you can shoulder and give aimed fire, battles began to change drastically.
@LaughingMan44
@LaughingMan44 3 жыл бұрын
@@Scout887 Pistols/handguns of that period were not necessarily more "powerful" than crossbows and, say, longbows: within 10 meters perhaps, but the velocity of such handgun projectiles would have dropped dramatically and quickly. Arquebus not only were powerful, they had far better effective range of the handguns.

This may have been said elsewhere, but has Joerg considered using different cams which don't have such an abrupt fall-off? If you're using your weight to draw it, the draw force is pretty constant, and since he put a lock on it, it doesn't need to be so light at full draw. Also it looked awkward to have such a jerk downwards (and the rail almost jabbing one's stomach) when the resistance suddenly fell.
@john-paulsilke893

Agreed. This is a very small hole in his ethos of design. He’s a big strong guy, (I am as well so I definitely understand) and many of his designs reflect this rough and ready attitude. Also let us not forget he’s often making a quick and dirty tool/weapon.
@solarissv777

alternatively, adding a stirrup on the bottom of the contraption and some rubber bands could allow to use even stronger bow. Basically invest energy on pulling the bow back with your legs and back muscles, and retrieve it when pushing down (especially it would help on the initial stage of the string drawing). This solution would allow to have draw weight even higher, then shooter's own mass.
