Just found your channel and am so grateful. I’d been feeling overwhelmed about travelling in Japan this Dec but your clear explanations and helpful advice has made me feel less anxious and now excited. All the best for your move. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

Another Aussie here. It may seem overwhelming now, but there are lots of KZbin videos which are very helpful. And when you get there, people are very polite. They will do their best to help you even if they can't speak much English. Many train stations have someone to help. Google Maps on your phone is excellent for telling you which trains to catch and even which carriage to get onto for faster transfers. And get a SIM card. Klook and others have options before you go. They're worth the money even though you will find free wifi in a lot of places. I was there last year and I loved it so much I'm going again in a week. Enjoy your trip!

QUESTION, I've seen a lot of JR vending machines with Visa & Mastercard logos but then there are no slot to put in our debit/credit card? So can we actually pay/top up by debit/credit card or not?

Great video! Have already the Kansai One Pass and Icoca. Thinking of getting one, but maybe two are enough. One for daily use and the second if counting special purchases, select for only travel expense or lending friends. All the best wishes for moving. Maybe I can bring some housewarming present next time.

Good luck with the move Harb! Moving is stressful under the best of circumstances, so take it easy, rest plenty and enjoy your new home. To all visitors to Japan: please take Harb's advice and get an IC card as soon as you land. Their usefulness is not limited to transportation. You can use them at vending machines, some restaurants, even some department stores accept them in lieu of cash! Plus, they make for great souvernirs and are valid up to 10 years (some models at least)! I'm using mine on my return trip next year. Could you maybe do a video breaking down the new ESTA entry requirements for Visa-exempt countries? I read it's getting implemented pretty soon, or is already. Cheers!

Great video. You mentioned that when you go to purchase your suica card, you need to add details like dob and phone number, with the phone number, does if have to be a Japanese number or can you add in your own cell phone number from your respective country? I;ll be in Japan in a a couple of weeks and i just want to be prepared as much as i can before i land in Narita. Thanks again!

Good luck on the move! Did you have to enter a pin when getting your welcome suica with a credit card? I think most Credit Cards in the US still don’t do pins so I am wondering if it’s still unfeasible to do credit card transactions at ticket machines. Although to be honest online ticket purchases followed by ticket collection at vending machines have made this a little easier now.

Note on the Suica IC cards, they only expire after 10 years of not being used or topped up. I have the Hokkaido version (kitica) from 2005 and it still works just fine

Question: Can use my Philippine number twhen getting a Suica card? Thanks!
@meowskimeow872 ай бұрын
I saw a comment on another video saying that they had called one of the stations. The answer was that it has to be a number that can be contacted within Japan. So my interpretation is that a PH number won’t work. The comment added that you can skip adding a phone no. but they won’t be able to contact you if the card is lost.

Only children 12 and under are eligible for child Suica. Just buy a child one at the airport on arrival. You will need to show passports.

I'm almost nervous to switch from the Welcome Suica to one of the longer lasting variants. I want to be seen as a tourist that has put in a lot of effort into learning Japanese, and not accidentally get pegged as a JET teacher or something 🥲
