For those looking for bouldering in Tokyo, I went to about half of the (21!) bouldering gyms I could find on my last trip (including the Pump Climber's Academy, which was OK but IMO not great). By far the fanciest is the B-PUMP Okikubo (which is a couple stops out of town from Shinjuku where Magnus was staying) - it has a gigantic comp wall where the pros train, but a lot of space and more height than some of the smaller gyms. On the east side, B-PUMP Akihabara is good option as well, and it has 4 floors including a big traverse wall and an outdoor area on the roof. For the west side, my favorite gym was Noborock Shibuya - it's reasonably sized, has an upstairs compy area, and is a short 5-10min walk from Shibuya Station.

For anyone interested in the grading, Japan has their own system. It maps on pretty well to font grading, but v-grading is a little bit loose. This is how it shakes out: Pink - 8-kyu - Beginner Green - 7-kyu - V0 - Font 4 Yellow - 6-kyu - V0+ - Font 4+ Red - 5-kyu - V1 - Font 5 Dark Blue - 4-kyu - V2+ - 6A White - 3-kyu - V3 - 6A+ Light Blue - 2-kyu - V4 - 6B+ Orange 1-kyu - V6 - 6C+ Brown - 1-dan (pronounced shodan) - v7 - 7a+
