Hello Bri! I guess that this is not only a problem of Japan. I also would like to know how many of the expats living in Japan with English as their motherlanguage can communicate in Japanese (speaking and writing). Here in Zurich, Switzerland, the expats are living in their bubble expecting from everyone to know English….. I know some expats living in Japan who are making fun about Japlish… when I ask them if they have told the person/ company about they have made a mistakes and that it would be better to write it differently, I get the answer „No. Why should I do it?“… Sorry for all the mistakes. Thank you very much, Bri, for sharing your wonderful video with us. PS: 1. My favorite vegetable is carrots 🥕… 2. The Japanese government should let more foreigners into the country. But they should support them to learn Japanese so they have the chance to get around and to leave their bubble. 3. No, I don’t have this kind of experience because I don’t drink alcohol. Could I become an English teacher in Japan? Even if my mothertongue is German? Next to German and English I speak French and some Italian……

Definitely, your video shows why we must practice talking in English every day, even if we are alone. We can see that grammar and listening are important, but speaking is one of the most challenging skills. If they do it (like a kind of evaluation), a lot of teachers around the world will lose their jobs. Thank you for this video.

I am working for a Japanese firm on its branch here in the Philippines. I would say that our Principal Office in Japan had taken the initiative to require a certain level of TOEIC for their promotion. And this is very particular who will be assigned overseas.

Hi Simon!! Glad to see you’re doing well! There’s definitely more Japanese people who are good at English than westerners who are good at Japanese. That’s for sure! My husband’s English is amazing 👌 But lots of schools make students study English just for passing tests instead of communicating. Which is one reason their global ranking for English fluency is very low.

Definitely, Japanese society should be more fluent in English not only for economical reason, but also people's quality of life. The internet doesn't have border and everyone in the world speaks English at some extent except us. That's why we have inner-circled mind at any scenes of life. I hope you will achieve your goal in time.
