I was a freshman in HS living in OC when I saw a kid in my math class with the concert shirt (Fall of 82')?, anyway I didn't even know about the festival, or that Petty played, but remember TP was the name that stood out for me. Just weird, or maybe it wasn't publicized as much, but when US 83' came around everyone knew about that one. Summer of 83' was my 1st concert, Def Leppard at the Fabulous Forum.

1st "Real" concert, I did see America open up for Quarterflash in late 81' at Knotts Berry Farm. Could have seen the Stones around the same time at the LA Coleseum, but my buddy and I were so into Rush, specifically 2112, and all we really knew about the Stones was Tatoo You and the oldies like Ruby Tuesday, so we turned down the 2 free tix his uncles had, and a Winnebago ride to the show. Stupid move because the next one wasn't until 89' with G&R, and 81 was the last time to see them young.

So jealous of everyone who was there! I would have loved to have been there. Tom captures my heart more every day ❤️ love that smile, love his headt
@gailremp83892 жыл бұрын
Try not to use the word jealous of people that do something that you didn't do. That's kind of a teenage girl gone bad way of looking at stuff. Maybe if you looked at it as you felt a lot of joy for them being able to be there. And you wish them goodness rather than your jealousy. There's too much jealousy and meanness in the world anyway. This is meant with no disrespect. It's just when you get like in your 70s jealousy gets you nowhere. Not really. But when you think it's great that someone else had a good time, that's the ultimate gift to yourself and to them. Thanks. Peace.

What an incredible video to stumble upon! Thank you so much. When I watch this, I am 20. The moment the video ends, I’m once again three days shy of turning 60. I didn’t know how weird being old would feel.

Tom said music was the only real magic. See. He's still able to turn senior citizens into 20 year Olds. I know because I'm in my 70's and he makes me feel young again. I hope I get to meet in heaven, but I'm not ready yet. I love my sons too much to leave.

It hurts me to watch such a good honest brilliant man having a breakdown singing Breakdown for all the world to see. He hated being in the public gaze but that was inevitable given his vocation. Part of me wishes people didn't get to see this and those who agree with me are people who get anything about other people's inner demons and really give a shit.
@adamrisch2 жыл бұрын
Your empathy is commendable but really, it's a performance, he performed it this way or very similar night after night for years. He wasn't literally having a breakdown on stage lol. Just enjoy it for what it is.

@@adamrisch I hear you. In the same way that people think popular writers are all about autobiography .... there's some kind of alchemy in all true artistic endeavours. I have seen similar performances re: this song but all in the same period of time and as much I would like to separate biography from performance ... this was personal. This man's music helped people gain insight into their own lives; 4 generations. But he had his demons and sometimes they got the better of him. Performance? Yes but he was high on something could not have done it otherwise. One of the great transcenders. Tx for your reply and posting this!
@adamrisch2 жыл бұрын
@@evelynbaron66 You're welcome! I don't doubt that his performance was rooted in emotional experience, that's a part of why it's so powerful, just saying he wasn't having some kind of mental health episode on stage, that's all haha.

Tom may have been a Gator (UF) but this FSU Seminole Warrior Princess totally loves this incredibly amazing talented dude from Gainesville freaking Florida. RIP Tom. You are so missed. I'll always remember when your band The Epics (then Mudcrutch before Heartbreakers), out of Gainesville, played our high school dances and proms in Lake Placid, Florida. You were such a cool guy, kind of shy and such a sweetheart!

Hello, thinking about it, now it's 2022, maybe we should not say RIP Tom Petty. Maybe we should say RIR&R Pettys... I think he would like that. He wants to rock 'n' roll. That's where he finds his peace.
