A few months before my son was killed in a car accident, he played this song for me. I will always hold it closely, as a gift, and a promise that there's something beyond this 'form' we are stuck in. Jerry August Warfel, I will always be your Mama, you will always be my Son. Thank you, Tom Petty.

Man. This song breaks my heart. It breaks my heart in the way where it breaks wide open and light shines out. Longing is surely one of the most powerful human experiences, and this song is bursting with longing. Being alive necessarily puts us in touch with pain and sufferings, and I think part of our souls knows we were made for better, and so we long for it. Hence, there’s something good coming, there HAS to be.

So sorry for your loss. So many are suffering and I can feel in my core all of the pain throughout the world. Comfort is only found when I can cry out to God, as I did when my brother passed. The only thing I could think to do was kneel and pray and as I looked up, in front of me was Teddy and my Lord telling me everything was going to be all right. It's been almost 40 years and my faith in God is as strong as it never was before. ehh Stan was good but couldn't except Tom when his vibe was changing and he was with the wilburys. Tom had to threaten to bring Ringo in to play a benefit for the viper room cause he lived in fla. Brian had a great way with the band. Tom really liked his vocals in background.
@ArtDonna847 жыл бұрын
I'll politely have to disagree. I listen to Stan's play. He was with them when they cut some great songs. Ionine didn't like him, felt he was the weak link. I found Stan to be a fine drummer, not taking away from what Steve has done since Stan's departure. That all said, I don't know Stan or any of them for that matte personally, and therefore give just what my ears enjoyed in Stan. I'm sure personalities also came into play. Epstein unfortunately had a heroin issue that sadly got the best of him.

"And I'm thinking about mama And about the kids And the way we lived And the things we did" is an obvious reference to his ex-wife Jane Benyo (without mentioning her by name) and as well as his 2 daughters. Tom followed his passions (music and song-writing) but was definitely not there for this wife nor family while they were growing up. He has admitted this. A musical genius but a flawed human. These 4 verses are a window in his heart/soul and the remorse and loneliness he felt upon ending a 20 yr marriage to his high school sweetheart. I recently re-discovered this song-haunting in it's beauty, sad but still hopeful-think he's talking to his future wife., Dana.

You have to learn to hop an inch again in the ward. it takes a couple of years ...But since I dumped those pharmaceutical /statins. life is good . I was lucky . I was in my mid-teens when I heard Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers hit the airwaves. Being a 16 year old with no life experience, I simply thought, "What cool music". After hitting 30, I truly started to appreciate the words he wrote. Here I'm now 58 and beyond the appreciation of his lyric, I have an absolute understanding and can fully appreciate his words so much more. That's one thing about music, our perception and understanding of it changes right along with our perception of the world and the different points we find ourselves in our lives. I can listen to a song I haven't heard in decades and it feels like I'm hearing it for the first time all due to my vantage point and perception the older I get. And I believe that most of us have grown souls that can be more easily touched...….another perk for growing older!

Long time Tom Petty fan. I think this one of the best. God bless my friend. I know it will too.

Tom was one of the last, great songsters of his time. The band still recorded live, whenever possible, Tom wrote his own songs and there were no gimmicks. There were no backing tracks, beginning a song on live performance, no auto-tune - just, basically, acoustic and electric guitar, keyboard, percussion, harmonica and voice. Honest songs about simple people - they don't make 'em like this anymore - he went down swingin'.

Wherever I go, whatever I’m doing, I come back to this song. Such a wonderful but sad song. RIP Tom. You kept us happy listening to your music in one of the toughest times in our lives as youth in a distant land...

I tried to do a incredibly bad thing & now wake up, I always wanted to go out listening to Wildflowers but in that moment with my head underwater this song came on in the moment I needed it the most. It's been my all time favorite song for a long time, I'm not very superstitious but I believe firmly Tom Petty.. having not knowing me had helped me come go my senses, when I felt nothing and wanted to end it all he came on and reminded me that there's a long road ahead, that there's a man that loves me at home and if I did this he'd be without me. He'd suffer without me, he wouldn't have me when he needed me the most.

This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. I can't say why exactly....but at the same time it gives me a shred of hope. Thank you, Tom and Co..... And thank you to those people in my last that this song brings to mind. Wish you were here. Wish things could be different.

my 3 boys lost their mother in a horrible incident. I play, sing, and dance to this song with them when I can!!! Petty touched more lives than he will ever know! we didn't do him his justice on his greatness if we don't let our Littles know about the amazing poetry he wrote!

Tom Petty.. so cool.. so simply beautiful. Saw him at age 18 in a small Seattle club I used fake ID to get in to. RIP TP

I think there is a line in every single Tom Petty that either describes my life perfectly, describes something I want in my life, or expresses gratitude for what I have. His music is the soundtrack of my life. I'm not religious and don't want a funeral, but depending on how long I live I'd prefer a raucous drunken party. I'm 62 now so if I go soon I hope the booze flows freely and Petty is the soundtrack to my last party. I'm grateful I never met him because his music means so much to me that I fear if he was tired and in a rush and blew off of I somehow didn't connect with him personally I'd lose his music. There is nothing on this earth that would make me give up my connection to his music. It lives in my soul and it feels like he was sent here to earth to write this for all of us. My gratitude knows no bounds.

I hope my beautiful son found "something good coming over the hill." He was so kind, caring, generous and loving. He loved life, his family and friends fiercely. He fought so hard to stay in this life. Cancer took him at age 26 yo. I think of him many times, everyday. This song brings on the flood of tears. I miss you sweet son. The world is less without you in it. I love you!
