The way Tom just stands and bounces in the intro to this incredible song -- there has just never been a cooler dude on the planet!!

This classic closer got swept to the side over the years as the monster hits had to be fed to his fans. The intensity and passion are thrilling.

Well Tom always said over the years that you play the old stuff for the fans because they love it. And then something about 20,000 people singing along that makes it OK. But you always do newer stuff and really and power stuff also. He is to be forgiven. He was still a powerhouse...

@@gailremp8389 Gail, who’s to argue with Tom Petty’s business/ music decisions? Anything That’s Rock and Roll is fine. 🎶😎👍🎶❤️

@@fretkillrfan you touch it with a tuning fork. No one's arguing his business decisions. That is kinda the point. I saw the Stones recently. First time in literally 40+ years. The highlight - for me - was when amidst all the showcase tunes with dancers and lights and exquisite percussion - they went into jumping jack flash unadorned. Keith on rhythym, keith on lead, ...

Seriously, this was Tom at his youthful best, and I think in the era of 76'-81' where you had the older rock groups that had gotten a bit too bloated and full of themselves, along with the punk acts that the better musicians must have scratched their heads over, along with disco being so popular among many ppl in their 20s-40s it made bands like The Police, Pretenders, VH, Joe Jackson, and TP and the Heartbreakers kick it up a notch, or 3. As an 8-13 yr old at that time I liked Boston, Peter Frampton, The Eagles, Kansas, Journey, etc, but at 54, I've had my fill of those acts, where I can still listen to TP and the others mentioned all day.

This is my favorite or all the styles and genres of TP. Kick Ass almost punk like anarchy/no holds bar and take no prisoners Petty. This was when I had just gotten into him. Next favorite time/style is the 1985 Southern Accents era, and 3rd would be the 89/90 Full Moon Fever solo album, which is epic in it's own right. They often talk about Aerosmith, and even Grand Funk Railroad as Americas answer to the Stones/British Invasion, but IMO TP and The Heartbreakers (though different) are as good as either of those bands, and with a cleaner, and more of a razor sharp sound. RIP Mr. Petty!

Bought Torpeados in 79' age 10-11, and loved it. Anticipated more of the same with Hard Promises, but probably just couldn't appreciate that one as much because I was just too young. Around the same time I bought Torpeados I bought the 1st 2 Police albums and loved those, but the Police lost me with their 3rd, because Da Do Do Do and don't stand so close to me were just too poppy and gay. Loved the Pretenders 1st album too, and still do. Totally remember that 3 yr time period between 78' and 81' and how everything was changing so much in music, fashion, and everything else, and I very much appreciate being a kid of the 70s and teen/young adult in the 80s. IMO it was a much better time for humans in general, because ppl were unified on many different fronts, where as now things seem so "every man out for themselves", and too much artificial smut with no substance, like pretty much the entire music business today!

Mike Campbell on guitar. Los Angeles and Hollywood Hills hardly the south yeah? His phrasing is second to none among the lead guitarists on first rate pop rock - The Cars, The Knack, Devo, etc.
