Lyrics
One of these days my old friend
You and I won’t worry no more
One of these nights it’ll all wash away
And we’ll wake up singing a brand-new song
We’ll wake up singing a whole new song
One of these nights my little love
One of our ships will come in
One of these nights we’ll fall asleep
Then wake up singing a brand-new song
We’ll wake up singing a brand-new song
So much confusion has entered my life
So much confusion has torn me apart
So much confusion has made me afraid
And I don’t know how to love
And I don’t know who to trust
And I don’t know what I did
So much confusion has entered my life
So much confusion goes ‘round in my brain
So much confusion has torn me apart
And I don’t know how to love
And I don’t know who to trust
And I don’t know why that is
One of these days my old friend
You and I will walk through that door
One of these days we’ll drive away
Drive away singing a brand-new song
We’ll wake up singing a brand-new song

Has been, is, and will be... nothing "fake" or ingenue about that statement coming from me at all. I grew up watching him on Mtv, and listening to him on the radio. Still listen to him on the regular today. Amazing singer / song writer. With an extremely positive message! That i think ya'll may have missed? lol haha hehe all that. snap out of it.

Enormous good will on your part, all of you but seriously this material has been around since 1994; Dana and Adria have been in endless litigation over creative rights over his music; this stuff is trickling out bit by bit by his last label Warner Bros. -- just release all the material damn it the world needs great music like this now in these hard times. The only innocent man as far as I can see is Mike Campbell. And if you listen to the lyrics he was the lonelinest man in the universe when he wrote that song; band was a cluster fuck with all the machinations behind his back and his marrriage a place where he didn't feel safe; yes he found redemption forgiveness love and peace at the end of his life but he had a harder time than most human beings on that road.

@@evelynbaron2004 I'm glad someone else is awake. You just know he would have hated how this has all been carried out after his departure. Court cases & penny pinching in every way possible. Take downs on YT simply so that songs and concerts can all be packaged up & sold all over again. He'd have hated the whole mess. Ironic that his entire life in the business was geared towards the opposite of what's been going on since he passed. I'm interested in how you see Mike Campbell as an innocent party (not saying he isn't at all). Same with Benmont. I was a bit disapointed to see them both seemingly going hand-in-hand with the whole process. Perhaps you know something I don't? I love everything Tom Petty stood for and the fight he put up against greed & ignorance (The Last DJ is a brilliant commentary). He was "For Real" in the truest sense possible. The end was clearly a rocky road. He was advised not to do that last massive tour in his condition, but I think it was probably a godsend for him ~ a way to get away from the ugliness & confusion and just do what he loved doing the most. ♥

Just proves that Tom Petty is STILL a National Treasure. In the "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" boxed-sets, the band shows that they had many favorite eclectic cover songs in their repetoire; not so much to show respect - but because they're cool songs and they could play them well. This approach, this attention to detail, went into their own songs, which is why they're so great. Thanks for posting this.

Re voice; absolutely; he had the widest range hit the lower notes with authority with acoustic backup; wasn't channelling Dylan or the Byrds or anyone else people think he was doing at any given time. I always thought he found the voice that matched the character he inhabited in the song. In the case of Wildflowers, perhaps that character was himself.

I think Petty fans will be disappointed if looking for new material. Most of Wildflowers B tracks have been released on She's The One album. I think this will be a bunch of demo recordings with only 5-6 new songs from which they have already released 3-4.

It is so hard to find in any comment section someone who gets it. It was Somewhere Under Heaven he was imaging his 1st wife Jane as a little girl dancing in the rain....there was a martial sound and deep bass ... she was so lonely in that song. I do think Wildflowers was unique and it would have been better if he and his band had a listen but that was in his will always got the feeling he loved people; so what if it's full of whirrly gigs the music is there.

The Modern American Songbook...that’s what Tom Petty wrote. A little piece of history, a little bit of knowledge and a little morality tale thrown in for good measure..that’s what Tom’s songs are made of. He was the real deal..not many of those left..and that he managed to keep doing what he was doing, without becoming a sellout speaks volumes for the man.

I was leaving a client meeting in LA, and was shocked to see the news of his passing on the elevator screen - still can't believe it.

To be alive while artists like Tom Petty and Edward Van Halen create music is the best thing in the world. To hear of their passing is truly painful.

This song really resonates with the state of the USA and the state of many people's personal lives right now in September 2020: a pandemic that has broken lives in various ways (health, financial, mental and emotional), dire political straights, spiritual and moral confusion, and civil unrest. And yet the music comforts and encourages.
