1:44 800m British athlete - Tom Randolph - is in base training period and about to begin to sharpen up for some indoor races in the coming month.
Today's workout, overlooked by head coach and Olympian (800m) Craig Winrow - involves some threshold running, hurdle drills and speed at the end. The workout takes place at St. Mary's University.
The workout: 2 x mile (the rest of the squad does 3), hurdle exercises/drills, 4x150m, 3x200m, 2x300m with varying recoveries.

I have not seen a lot of hurdle drills in the trainings of US long distance athletes at least not in the videos. Here in Europe, these are very common and classic ones and pat of almost each training, probably for short distances runners at least. So I was wondering whether those are also popular in the US, or are just seen as "outdated" etc.

Confused with the mile at the beginning, the splits were 58 and 59 for the first 2 400s and then a finish in 5:10-5:20?

The first 2 splits were 78 and 79 if you listen closely

St Mary's is a university in West London. These athletes would be of collegiate age or older. I think Tom is 21/22
