He's really good but there were a few errors in the drum solo section. That's being super knit picky though, he did like 98% of it perfectly. But as musicians, we strive for that 100%.

Great cover of a timeless song. RIP Neil Peart. You have all the parts nailed. The hi-hat pushes could have been a little crunchier, which could be just bringing that channel up in the mix. Just a tiny little detail. But the tone of the cymbals and the toms are amazingly spot on.

Aside from the awesomely talented drumming, the extra icing on the cake is how close the drum sound is to the original, IMHO. The toms tuning, snare tone, and even cymbals seem pretty close to the original (without doing an isolated side by side). This, to me, is the most accurate drum cover I’ve heard of this deceptively difficult song. I would imagine a lot of time went into reconstructing the sound for accuracy, which is an impressive feat by itself, bravo!

This is a very difficult song to play even for The Professor because it has to be played hard and fast to be played correctly. Having the correct kit and tuning is another dimension. It took a lot of hard work to get to this level and the video editing was awesome!
@petertromp87868 ай бұрын
You very much nailed it here. Neil Peart played extremely hard and intensely, and that was part of his tone signature and the resonance he brought out of the kit. (He said during the Snakes & Arrows recording sessions that he has to play the kit as hard as he physically can to actually nail down his sound.) He never played the same setup from record to record, always changing up parts here and there to give every record its own drum sound (for the record, my favourite sound of his is from Signals - just a brutal, but beautifully musical snare and kit), but the one thing that was always the same is the intensity with which he attacked his kit to get his sound across.
@rwfrench66GenX8 ай бұрын
@@petertromp8786 so true! His kits in the 70’s were so elaborate with gongs, 6 octave cowbells, pipes, chimes, and so much more! That was back during the days of the home Hi-Fi when people dropped thousands on speakers and audio equipment to hear the subtle nuances in the recordings! I have AirPods Pro Max headphones and they use some kind of phantom channel to create a 3D sound in modern music but it subtracts from the recordings of the 60’s - 80’s!
@petertromp87868 ай бұрын
@@rwfrench66GenX Thanks for the reply. So you're saying audiophilia was mainstream in the 1970s? Wild man. Now people listen to brickwalled MP3's on their 100s of dollars headphones. It doesn't surprise me that you're not getting the full benefit of those 60s-80s recordings. After all, it was just music - good music, excellently recorded, mixed and mastered - and that used to be enough.

I have to admit, and I apologize in advance, the first few bars I truly thought it was the original track with Neil playing. Then I heard a tiny difference in the ride cymbal, and then I heard your toms and that’s when I realized this is a fantastic rendition played by a dedicated and talented drummer. So well played, it fooled a Peart fan who heard this song for the first time when it was released in 1981. Bravo 👏🏻

Oh man the reverb on those drums... hahaha. Love the hats... so crisp and clean. Pascal you did an amazing job recreating Peart. I've practiced this song a thousand times and you showed me a few places that I've been missing some embellishments on the hats. I always got the first barks but didn't realize there was more subtle hat barks throughout the song. Also didn't realize that at 0:39 the bell isn't played throughout but is used for accenting within the ride pattern. Always feel the tension building at 2:00 cause I know its about time to start flying around the kit. You did an amazing job of keeping it tight, fluid and made it look effortless. The only caveat to recreating a Peart part is you didn't bring the thunder... but honestly who could hit as hard, with such precision, speed and control as Neil.
