Oh thankgod..... I'm not the only one! 😂 I'm 33 and just feel in love with Tom Skerritt as a teenager but NOBODY of my generation had a clue who I meant. My husband is 21 years older than me and thinks it's absolutely hilarious this is my favorite actor (he jokingly tells people "She just likes geriatric men" lol)

Really Alien and Bladerunner were groundbreaking films... Hard to appreciate how epic they were in my youth, but after so many terrible films have been made since, you really realize how great of a filmmaker Ridley Scott actually is. I wish films these days were made with the same passion AND skill, but here we are

Wasn't it though? They could have easily given away everything... The poster teases your brain... Just enough... Ridley learned from Jaws and Star Wars (and others)... you can tell... His slow camera pacing and "throw the audience" into the world without explanation made the films THAT much more real, even by todays standards...

Happy Birthday Tom Skerritt. UR awesome legend. I love Ted. Its hilarious. And I love Alien and Alien Isolation. Awesome movie and game. I seen all 6 of them. Prometheus 1, Alien 2 Covenant, Alien 3, Aliens 4, Alien 3 5, and Alien 6 Resurrection. I guess it. Still, its true. Also, Sigourney Weaver remind me of my mother. Seriously, she does look similar to her. The hair. Alien is a good horror movie. "In space no one can hear u scream." Alien reminds me of "Dead Space DownFall", "Dead Space Aftermath" and the games. Pretty kool. Full support for u Tom. May the Peace be with u Catpain Dallas. From Harlingen Texas. August 25, 1933 August 25, 2023 through August 25, 3023

I have watched a few of Bobbie Wygant's "Alien" related interviews, and she keeps coming back to, and stressing, the "gore", which she seems to believe the film has an abundance of. When she was interviewing Ridley Scott, he pointed out that the film only has once brief scene with blood in it, therefore only one brief bit of "gore". Bobbie essentially told him that he was wrong about that, and he pointed out that viewers of the film always seem to remember there being more blood in the film than there actually is. It is disappointing for a journalist or interviewer to keep going on with something so incorrect in her perception, and dragging her hapless interviewees through the awkward position of trying to politely correct her.
@tinytanks Жыл бұрын
technically I think there was one more point later in the movie with about three frames of gore that lasted for maybe a 10th of a second, but for the most part ridley was right. I thought her pollyanna-ish naievete charmed the cast into showing their best side and giving some good responses so I enjoyed watching them, but I guess you're right that at least ridley deserved some meatier questions.

You have to realize that when this was released, in 1979, there was a great deal less of the violence that we've become accustomed to. The 1970's were definitely a time of an explosion in violence, but even The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is the template Ridley Scott drew from when deciding how much he wanted to emphasize horror in this picture, is much less violent than you'd expect from a slasher film. Also, the people like Bobbie were the Silent Generation, not even Baby Boomers. They were typically from very religious families and the concept of violence, especially in films, was treated as somewhat immoral. This was a major shift in personal taste, again brought on by the counter-culture period of the 60's followed by the "new wave" of filmmakers in the 70's. I really can't overstate what a shift this was, so to someone like her the Violence--especially the chestburster scene--was shocking. I lived through that time, though i was just a child, but I remember just how focused people were on the gore of the movie. Tame as it may be today, back then it was a source of fascination.
@Alienfanatic3 ай бұрын
@@tinytanks Yes, the parts in which the mature alien used its tongue to incapacitate both Brett and Parker could be considered "gore" though it was really too brief to be considered graphic. The mind tends to fill in for what it doesn't see and, having already seen the chestburster, I'm sure many saw brains "popping out" of the heads of the victims. I know I did.

Bobbie's parting question was what Tom's next picture would be. She quipped that she hoped it wouldn't be as scary. The funny thing is that his next picture was a forgettable one called, "Savage Harvest" about killer lions. :)

It’s because it’s shot with one camera. First they film Tom and his answers, then the interviewer. So everything is set, there is no room for improvisation on the interviewing side, or it won’t add up during the montage

They were speaking to each other. There are clear shots of them in the same frame.
@coolseaotter1455 Жыл бұрын
@@jedijones yes they certainly were, but during the conversation the camera was pointed at Tom. Then after the interview is done and Tom leaves, the camera is pointed at the interviewer, and the questions are filmed. It’s a common technique if you film interviews with a single camera

God she's the WORST interviewer. She doesn't understand a fucking thing about the movie, based on this interview and all of the other people re:Alien she's interviewed (which include people like Giger and Shushett who you don't typically see as many interviews with). She deadass thought Skerritt played Kane at one point and you could tell he was confused! I do appreciate interviews like these because this was clearly filmed right at its release and you can tell they (mainly Skerritt) a) are trying to avoid spoilers and b) don't understand the cultural impact quite yet. The bit about the "sequel" is fucking gold because I'm like "Man, you have *no* idea..." It's a real time capsule and I think it's great we have that.

That was one of the most awkward actor interviews I've ever seen! Not from Tom Skerritt, he came across perfectly okay. But that interviewer! Talk about being disinterested and uninformed.
