Tried this today. It was delicious. This is our tokdaal when we cant find raw mangoes. My mother makes it very often. The only change i made i added 2 green chillies. I am a big green chili fan and i always eat my rice with green chillies in other hand so i cant just imagine my daal without those. And yes though my mother is also from Dhaka but she too adds sugar in almost everything and i just love that sugery yet soury taste. Thanks for the recipe guys. It was perfect. 😊

Dear Bong Eats, আপনাদের Channel অনেক দিন হলো follow করছি। আজকে একটা বিশেষ কারণে ধন্যবাদ জানাবো বলে msg-টি লিখছি। আমার মা কিছুদিন আগে বেশ অসুস্থ হওয়ায়, রান্নার দায়িত্ব আমিই নিয়েছিলাম। অসুস্থ হলে খাবার কি দেবো সেটা একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয়। আমি রান্না করতে খুব ভালোবাসি। তবে বহু দিন অনেক লোকের রান্না করতে হলে, অনেক রকমের রান্না ও জানা চাই, আর অবশ্যই নিরামিষ রান্না বিশেষ ভাবে জানা চাই। শাকসবজি নাহলে খাওয়াবো কি করে। আপনাদের চ্যানেল দেখে, Curry পাতা ও টমেটো দিয়ে মসুর ডাল, পাঁচমিশালি তরকারি, ঝাল শুজি এই সব ই শিখে বানিয়েছিলাম। মা এখন সুস্থ। আর আমার বাড়িতে এই ডালটির এখন বিশেষ ডিমান্ড! 😊 অনেক অনেক ধন্যবাদ। আমাদের recipe document করার আপনাদের এই প্রচেষ্টা অনবদ্য। 🙂👌🏼

I see the concerns about the sugar.. but when I added a small amount, it really didn't balance the sour well.. so that's why, add the correct amount of sugar.. just my understanding of it..

Okay, so let's get this straight. Potatoes and green chillies were allowed entry even though they are from the Americas and brought to Bengal by the Portuguese, but curry leaves cannot be. So, when was the last date of entry for ingredients into "authentic Bengali cuisine"?
