I would like to share my experience with Canon 700D (Camera -> EOS Util / ML -> OBS -> Other Apps) 1.EOS Utility is perfect clean hdmi, low temperature, battery last for 90-100mins (per 1x LP-E8) but low-resolution output 2.Magic Lantern via mini hdmi + capture card also perfect clean hdmi with more option/setting, drain the battery so fast and cause camera from 35 -> 54'C in 10 mins (ambient 31'C), battery last for 60 mins Personally, I went to choice 1 with battery grip (2x LP-E8) and video conference with my team 2hrs a day. Magic Lantern is better video quality it's not good as a still image but you will notice by comparing with EOS Utility but overheat is the main issue. If you living in a country like under 20'C it should no problem

This eos webcam utility works great with my canon t7. I use a nifty fifty lens for the bokeh but obviously this means I need to place the camera like 20+ feet away to get a good shot. Hi, did you use an mini hdmi to usbc cable to go from canon to your macbook? I can't seem to find such a cable. Any advice on making that connection. I'm trying to use the 80D with a MacBook that only has usbc ports. Thanks.

Hello mate, is there any way I can use my Canon 500D as a webcam. I'm tired of trying everything and have no budget at this point to go for another one. Please help.

The 500D was so early in the world of DSLR video that I can't say if it'll work or not. But it's definitely worth downloading the app and giving it a try!

Dear Tom, thank you so much for this information! So there's no possibility to get a Clean HDMI from my Canon Eos m50 while using an Atem Mini? Because I would like to have two Camera Angles .....
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
The Webcam Utility will give a clean output on the M50, but it still won't be "clean" through the ATEM. Depending on your streaming software, you might be able to run another camera through the ATEM and then use the M50 as a second source via USB. 👍

@@tombuck Am I still able to switch with the Atem between the one Camera connected with the Atem and the other connected to the Pc and the streaming software (for example OBS) ? Or is this only possible within OBS ?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
@@MaureensTV You can switch between those sources within OBS. I do this all the time in Ecamm Live and it works great. It's actually fun to have separate inputs since it allows you to create scenes in really cool and flexible ways that you can't do only with the ATEM.

Question: I bought myself a canon T7 DSLR and was curious if I used it to stream/record with, would it still stop recording after 30 minutes is up even though it’s connected by usb to my computer? Or would it only keep recording for however long you want if you use something like the elgato camlink? Long question but I was just curious. Thanks
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
When you're streaming you don't need to have the camera recording, so it can stay in standby mode and should work as long as it has power connected 👍

I have a canon m100 that isn’t supported with this webcam utility 😢 would it work with a cam link?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
The CamLink will take any HDMI source. I believe you'll need a Micro HDMI to Full HDMI cable or adapter to use it with the M100.

Very constructive video. I have got one question. I wanted to do video reaction using OBS and my Canon M50. Do I need Cam Link (capture card) or do I need to download Eos webcam utility only ?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
You can use either/or. Webcam Utility is limited to 576p whereas the CamLink will give a signal up to 4K 👍

I've recently got an ATEM Mini, after I saw your video about it... However, when using my Canon EOS750D Camera, I can't get rid of the focus box... Is there any way to get the EOS Webcam Utility Output to the ATEM Mini?

I spent an hour on help with Canon tech support and got a dead end. I have a Canon R5 and a MacBook Pro M1 from 2021. I was simply trying to use it for Zoom, and it needed this EOS Webcam Utility. The Canon R5 is recognized by macOS and works fine with EOS Utility 3 for live view, but the camera isn’t being detected by the EOS Webcam Utility Pro software. Despite trying multiple machines, cables, and troubleshooting steps, the camera won’t show as a video source in the webcam utility. Any ideas?

I tried with my 200D Mark II... but while recording video is delayed and sound and video mismatched 🙄 what to do ..?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
That's a common thing that can happen. You should be able to create an audio delay in whichever streaming software you're using to help everything sync up again.

It's not a specific application, but should show up as a video source in whatever streaming or conferencing software you're using.

Hi Tom, in my eyes, your videos have good color balance. Are you using any LUTs? I am using this M200 for streaming but I feel like I can add a LUT to make it look better.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don’t use a LUT, but I did make a Final Cut preset (I did a video about it a few weeks ago and you can download it for free at himynameistom.com/downloads). The biggest thing for me is getting the white balance and exposure right, then it’s easy to make some adjust,Mets to the color.

Tom did you say this worked with your Mac Mini? I can't get the webcam utility to install on my 2015 MacBook air with os x el capitan 10.11.6. Do you know if there is a work around, or is it time for an upgrade?

It’s working fine with my Mac Mini. It should work with the 2015 if you install the El Capitan version 🤔 If all else fails, the elgato camlink is absolutely worth the price.

Using a R6. I'm getting the dreaded red X when I try to set it up as a capture device in OBS. I am running an older Mac Pro (on Big Sur) and using USB C to USB 3.0 cable. If I open up EOS Utility 3 it shows up for live view, so I know it's connecting. I have also tried to use this directly in Facebook to go live and it's the same red x. Is my USB cable bad?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
That's strange since the R6 is so new, it should be working fine. You said that you're using the correct cable, but my instinct in these situations is to always start troubleshooting by swapping out the cable. Once I find one that works for sure I usually attach a little label to it so I never forget 😁

I have a same problem with the new M1 macbook pro. Zoom doesn’t find the webcam utility. Everything is updated. Maybe we need support for Big Sur. 🤔 🤞🏻
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
It seems to be hit or miss. It works sometimes for me on Big Sur, but not consistently, which might be why Canon doesn't officially list it yet.
