To be honest Macdonald's fastfood is so popular in Russia because we don't have a very developed taste and consider this delicious. If you go to Western Europe in some countries McDonald's is in the minority among restaurants because it's not popular because of the quality of the food. Where I live now, there are only a couple of Macdonald's restaurants in the whole city, while in Russia they are almost at every metro station.

When you compare salaries one should point out that salary in Russia is usually given after personal income tax is deducted, while in US it is usually before taxes.

I’m in the US. I have to say these Russian versions of McDonalds look cleaner. And the food looks better. Do you have Coke Cola products there still, or has this new Cold War garbage made them pull out too? I have a Russian friend over there, we communicate a lot. I don’t care what the politicians say, I like the people over there. Not my enemies. Once you get past all the propaganda and stereotypes, we’re a lot the same.
@ForOne8146 ай бұрын
From what I've heard and seen online, American McDonalds are just trash in comparison to global average. In Russia, McDonalds had relatively stable decent quality of food and service, and a decent, may be a bit too high prices. Not much changed after the rebranding. Coca Cola the company pulled out, but there's a lot of domestic alternatives and imports from -stan countries and Iran. Yep, Iran has Coca Cola production. I honestly like some of the local stuff better, they changed the recipe of original Coke around 2016 and I stopped liking it then, always preferred Pepsi after that. PepsiCo didn't pull out, but they stopped producing their international brands here. But not their local brands, lol. Russians and Americans are a lot alike, indeed. More alike with each other than with Europeans, which is surprising.
@thevox10756 ай бұрын
@@ForOne814 I agree with all of that. I actually prefer the Coke made in Mexico. Problem here in the US is that typically working at a McDonalds is an entry level job. Doesn’t require much to get the job. But a lot of people seem to believe they should be getting $18-20/hr, and employers can’t afford to pay unskilled laborers that. So these workers don’t take these jobs seriously. If they get fired for poor work, they don’t care, they just go to the Taco Bell next to it. Quality and customer service is also bad, a lot of these young people have no respect and will get mouthy and confrontational with customers pretty quick. And if that happens to someone like myself, I’m all to happy to fight. America needs a moral cleansing. I live here, so I’m admitting it. But the Russians I’ve met were always nice, respectful and intelligent. Can be stubborn, but so can I. I’d work alongside them any day.
@ForOne8146 ай бұрын
@@thevox1075 that's because coke in Mexico uses sugar instead of corn syrup. Our soft drinks also use sugar, what I meant is the formula for the flavoring changed to the one I disliked. It's an entry-level job here as well, and people generally don't care much, but due to our labor laws neither the employer can fire someone without a lawful reason, nor an employee can just quit, the 2 week notice is mandatory here. As a result people are way more attached to a job, at least legally if not mentally. As for the pay, a McDonalds/ViT employees make more than teachers. That's not a lot, but it's also not bad, it covers the average rent and monthly expenses. Well, that's because most Russians you meet probably speak English, and Russians that speak English are likely to be above average in intelligence and social skills. As any other country, we have plenty of idiots and degenerates. But also I won't disagree with you. I wanted to immigrate from here, either to Czechia or to the US (I'm pro gun, hence why those two), and I'm glad I didn't. The more I learned, the more I started to actually like it here. My rose-tinted glasses were removed, and I adjusted my standards. Because, like, I was really surprised to learn about the situation with the right to repair and the copyright in the US. Cuz here, you own stuff you own, you can do basically whatever you want with it. We have perfectly legal 3rd party Apple repair shops, you can modify software you buy for your personal or corporate needs (still can't legally distribute modifications, of course). That farmer equipment repair situation is just wild from my perspective. There's just so much stuff that doesn't get talked about when people describe life in foreign countries. Problems like that aren't common knowledge, but they are important, because they impact the way you live. And then there's your cultural and political situation, that does get talked about quite a lot, at least in our media. I never expected it to be true. You know, we as a people do not trust the media, but on this topic they just don't even need to misinform, it's just this bad, they don't need to exaggerate or lie, they just show what is happening and take the free propaganda W.

@@ForOne814 well, to an extent. The media here likes to pretend the problems in the US is EVERYWHERE. It’s definitely not. I’d have to say a large percentage of Americans are just normal people. But the media isn’t interested in normal. It’s boring and doesn’t sell. All it takes is a minority of weirdos to make an entire population look bad. I swear, it seems like agendas and propaganda is king. If you see any Russians in tv or the movies here, they’re always portrayed as either mafia or spies. Hollywood doesn’t want us to forget who the evil enemy is! But seriously, the average American doesn’t believe the entire population of Russia is all criminal masterminds. That’s ridiculous.

Interesting video, but I have a comment about salaries. In the Balkans (also Slavs...) we newver quote the Gross Salary in the US, but rather "what stays in our pockets - salary" (pension is included and health insurance is included). We also don't pay taxes at the end of the year. IDK how it's expressed in Russia, but those 800 $/month can easily be 1200-1500 after "401k", "health", "dental" and yearly TAX
@intrepidsouls6 ай бұрын
It’s the same way in Russia. Nobody mentions their salary before tax, because the tax on your salary is paid by your employer, not you. All the other “401k”, medical, etc, taxes are also the employer’s responsibility

By the way, about RU wages comparing to US wages, in Russia you only "see" 13% tax (as it is derived directly from your salary) so if you get 1100$/month you actually get 957$/month (or ~6$/hour) on your hands from the company, and you dont need to pay any taxes after that, all of the taxes are paid by the company before handling the money to you. If calculated on smartasset texas paycheck, it says you get 1088$/month of "take home salary" with 8$/hour and 168 hours without any additional pre/post tax deductions or additional withholdings, which may include insurancies and other things. Still more, but not by a great margin. But we have to say this salary you saw is obviously in Moscow which is like 2-2.5 times higher than in other cities in russia and about 1.5 times higher than in St.Petersburg. As for Mc'donalds replacement, the quality of food was gradually declining since the early 2000's so at this point in time and after it was reaquired by local enterpreneir i think it's best for your health to not eat it at all.
