Good with abilities to win a slam yet, he gets into a repeat pattern of shot selections that the top guys figure out and he doesn't mix up his backhand with slices, top and flat....

just beautiful to watch Robredo strike the ball, so fluent and smooth. Better than Gasquet

Extremely nimble feet and relaxed grip letting the racket head do the work. I look like a sleestack playing with a sledgehammer by comparison.

He's got fabulous technique off both sides. Seems like he lacks a bit in the pace department though :(

i know he must be VERY good to be at the US Open. still, to be honest, Mr. Robredo seems awkward in this video. maybe it is the positioning of Mr. Robredo's body from the ball, resulting from either imperfect footwork, from bringing the racquet too far inside on the back swing or, possibly, from just a lack of natural overall body coordination/relaxation/fluidity. or maybe the problem is the exact opposite - his desire to be wristy actually causes the awkwardness in the swing? i don't know. either way, Mr. Robredo is certainly very wristy, though, especially on the forehand side. as a result, there appears to be a smaller margin for error than you'd see with, say, Nadal's forehand. Mr. Robredo does obtain an exaggerated topspin, in part aided by that wristiness, but at the cost of diminished pace, accuracy and an ability to cleanly strike the ball. of course, i do recognize he could appear like a totally different player in faster rallies as professionals like him might be thrown off by (what is to them) the slower pace of the rallies in this video. maybe he's like a sports car that struggles a little bit while in first gear and i'm being unfair? or he is just working on something that i don't understand... probably so. in any case, i tip my hat to anyone who can be so good as to play in the US Open and please only take these thoughts for what they may or may not be worth! i'd welcome any comments as i am trying to learn.
