Tommy in one of your old videos you said that if you had the ability to gain sight you would do it, i know there are procedures/surgeries that make blind people see for the first time ever, lot of videos about these people on youtube, not sure if they are born blind or only partially blind and im sure it cost a million dollars, but if you could would have one of these procedures done so you could gain sight?

I knew someone in college who was blind from birth, and she had some incredible hearing! One day she told me that she could identify coins accurately by the sound they make when they drop. Some friends and I were a little skeptical, so we tested her and she did flawlessly! One of our friends that had gone to France dropped a French coin and she immediately said, "Uh, are you sure that's an American coin?" haha Absolutely mind-blowing!

It makes sense, as a blind person she probably drops coins more often than most people and so she would have learned what they sounded like when they fell since she had to follow the sound to find them. That's so cool that she could tell when it was another country's currency though!

I work in retail dealing with money as well as collecting coins so I can tell what coins fall as well (in addition identifying foreign coins or coins in looking for (silver nickels/dimes/quarters or steel pennies) apart from normal coins)

I didn't get any of the sounds ... but I remembered how as a kid on sunday mornings, when I was still lying in bed and my parents were already around, I could identify every sound they made in the apartment, so I imagine that's how you do it, Tommy, having relied on your ears your whole life. But who would have thought that Ben would smash eggs ... :)

Honestly, at this point I'd love to see a "Beat Tommy" show of this. I'd watch the heck out of that. It's fun because you can play along and try to beat somebody who has to do it all the time. I know I made it sound mean but I really mean it in a very nice way. Doing better than somebody who has an advantage on you is a fun challenge. Oddly though his advantage is a disability. Pure gold!

This really made me realize how limited my vocabulary for describing sounds is, compared to the number of sounds that exist. I got a surprising number of these correct, but despite the fact that I could distinguish the sounds, I didn't have enough words to describe how on earth I knew what they were. I really feel like I need to figure out some more words for describing sounds, and then go back through my books and edit them to contain a wider variety of sounds.
