If you like the bass you should hear " Anesthesia Pulling teeth" live 83. The bass player Cliff Burton plays a solo thats insane, you have to watch that. Much love from Chile.

There's a version of Anesthesia on KZbin with the bass guitar removed. A must hear for everyone who thinks bass doesn't count for much in metal. Edit: And yes. By "bass removed" I mean it's just a whole bunch of silence with a tiny bit of Lars near the end.

Yep. The intro, 2:33 and 8:09 are bass parts. This was, and is, Cliff Burton's song. Almost the entire song, including the guitars in the clean section, is his composition. Also, he is the reason why Metallica uses harmonies so often, unlike the other bands that are in the Big 4 of thrash metal. You can easily find the bass track of this song on KZbin. A great reaction as always. Keep it up!
@ThomasJ_Music4 жыл бұрын

@adameves59704 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was the bass. Also, the bass solo at like the 7 minute mark, followed by the 2 guitar +1 bass harmony. A lot of people don't realize those high note sections are actually bass, but you definitely knew something was up. You can just hear the thicker strings, most other people don't notice this.

As mentioned in the comments already, Cliff did that solo at the intro, and a solo in between the guitar solos. The reason why the guitars harmonize a lot is, that Cliff actually taught them harmonies. He was the one behind harmony parts of Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets and he wrote the interlude to Orion himself.

So glad to hear this,thank you. Some 30 plus years ago I was riding my new freestyle bicycle with a new Sony walkman and a new Master of Puppets cassette and thought I was invicible. The intro made me feel like I was driving a tank into battle an gave me courage to do things that were not ordinary at the time. I still ride today,not as hard mind you and now this same song comes through the ear pods occasionally. For as hard and heavy as Metallica could be they had something special. The ability to write and compose music that still stands up and fits in with the times we live in today. What a great time in history for metal as a whole IMO. The bass and guitar harmony at 8:10 is special amongst all the other riffing by Cliff. I know this one didn't make you sweat but keep it on shuffle and maybe you'll hear something new each time.Thanks again for giving me that "invincible" feeling through your reaction.

I really appreciated watching you react to the first time to Orion. Back in 1988 before the... And Justice For All album came out, I wasn't a Metallica fan. My friends were and knew I was into guitars. They made me listen to Orion. One of my bros had a sweet sounds system in his Chevy Blazer. I was absolutely floored and in to space of about 8 minutes I went from antagonist to a hungry fan! Over 32 years later, I am still a hungry Metallica fan! They have made such a positive influence in my life and often I feel as if the song is speaking directly to me, especially the guitars of James and Kirk! Of course, Cliff was a rare, rare talent and Metallica is different without him, but his influence is still very much there. At any rate, I can tell you love all music and Metallica to me, is the pinnacle of any band that uses guitars! Keep up the good work!

This is amazing Brent! It’s awesome to hear how much a band has influenced someone. For me it was the Smiths. Not because of their musical ability, but more about the lyrics. As a typical teen, it was reassuring to know that others felt the same things I was (angst, anxiety worry etc). And Morrissey confirmed that for me.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not. Metallica didn’t play this song for so long. I could be mistaken, but I’m not sure they played it after 1991 when the Black Album hit. It wasn’t until late 2000’s when the began incorporating it on regular set lists. I’m sure they played it before then, but it wasn’t a reg played song for sure, especially through the nineties and into the early 2000’s. And it’s really not a regular played song still, although the “Orion Tour/Festival the did kinda bring it into more of a forefront of a song played.
