Thank you for this super-clear How To video. I just bought a Philips 2200 machine and wanted to use up some ground coffee I have left over, before switching to beans. You didn't cover it here, and the instruction leaflet that came with the machine didn't explain how to make a coffee with ground coffee either. In another KZbin vid and on the Philips website, I discovered the way to do it is with a "magic long touch" on the coffee strength button, and the light switches to the measure cup symbol. I thought I'd share that here for anyone else interested 🤓👍

I found Philips 3200 from e-recycle bin from 2019. It got one main issue, main water pump silicone hose had rub through and caused pump to make huge noise. Fixed it with new hose. Second problem was steam valve sticking, fixed with replacement valve from e-recycle De'Longhi coffee machine. Next problem was brew unit inlet seals leaking, fixed with silicone lubricant. Next thing leaking was latte go -unit. Latte go does not really drip to coffee cup, De'Longhi is better. Start/stop button does not work correctly every time. In total they make good coffee, but build quality and design is way much better with De'Longhi Dynamica.

I had this machine for 4 years, but I recently bought a De'Longhi Dedica. The main reason is that this machine needs a lot of maintenance. The group gets dirty quick. And the worst part is that it is pretty hard to deep clean. It is almost impossible to remove all the coffee ground from the group and the inside of the machine. Even with a toothbrush. It was great at the beginning but now it attracts little flies who like to hatch in the wet coffee trapped inside the machine, and I'm tired of cleaning it (which is impractical). There are a lot of little corners inside which are a nightmare to even reach. I may regret it, I only have a Dedica for 1 day, but I cal already tell my Dedica will not have this problem.

Fun review, thanks! I like the idea of setting bean + water quantities independently before hitting the go button. My Delonghi allows variation of the bean amount, but setting the water volume is very iffy and I don't think it remembers the settings very well. Good enough for cappuccino, though, and for espresso I use the Sage. In fact, when I get to the last 100g of a bag of beans I dump them into the DeLonghi hopper and open a fresh bag for the Sage. Re water filter cartridges, here in France I can get bottled water that has 3 mg calcium/litre, which is probably better than any cartridge can deliver. Tastes vile to drink but is fine for coffee. My machines say "descale me" about once every 6 months to a year.

@@excellerateurbreath That one looks the same as this one. The machine itself is OK, but the pucks are too small for me. I’d suggest considering a DeLonghi Magnifica Evo or Start.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner best buy has the 800 for about half the cost of the others. Do you think just making two coffees per coffee could work, if that makes sense? Thanks for your feedback!!

Tom's Coffee Corner - Great video and review. For me, an unimpressed, unhappy owner. A VERY hard pass. Some notes: . Obviously never use oily beans it will kill any but especially this thing, stone dead. (I didn't use them.) . Do NOT per the reseller, use the filter if your water source is like mine, super purified and/or reverse osmosis. . Use only 1 scoop for the ground coffee if you use it at all. The scoop that came with it - no other. You've been warned, LOL. . Clean this thing deeply and religiously. . My town in WA state is littered with tons of good espresso places and some bad ones. Surprising amount of excellent ones. A barista dropped by and tried a doppio said 'meh.' . Leaked from bottom after 2 years repair company said quote "I found that the boiler pin was not able to seal under pressure leading to the described leaking." Don't let a repair company screw you for expensive repairs when it's an almost zero-cost pin. . The logic chip on this thing is wack! You will be unplugging the machine frequently to reset the logic, otherwise the warning "cannot brew" dreaded light comes on - when there is no reason it should. . My observation is that you CANNOT make real espresso with this machine. Buy say a JURA or a machine at least the $1100 price point. What you get with the 1200 is a machine that cannot maintain the correct temperatures. Resulting in a slightly sour drink that is not really espresso - close, but it's like overshooting (or in this case under-shooting) an omelette and ending up with a different, but related animal. . I really enjoyed the video btw. Just not this machine.

Thanks for sharing all that experience. The Philips machines are meh, in my opinion, too. The Dinamica Plus is my goto recommendation right now. Jura is also good, but you cannot access the grinder or brew group, which I think sucks. Seattle area is nice! Been to the Gorge a couple times. Cheers!

Hi Tom. I have been looking for a Sage/Breville Oracle reviews online but nothing came up substantial. Could you please refer me to one or do one yourself in future? Also I'm new to coffee craze/hobby and I have Delonghi Dedica EC785. I'm having a very hard time dialing it in for espresso probably due to lack of experience. My equipment is 1. the machine, 2. a scale, 3. Sage/Brevillle Dose control grinder. 4. Ims baskets 5. Bottom less porta filter 6. Ims shower to replace the original one in the brew head 7. Tamper and jugs that came with machine. I'm new and having quite a hard time dialing in. 😣 Doing milk frothing is also a challenge. I'm seriously thinking of switching to Breville sage machines Maybe I'm lacking technique or need lots of practice but I'm feeling like lost and dint know where to start. Help please.

Well, it sounds like you have good accessories for your equipment. If you could upload a video, I would take a look at your workflow. It does take a little practice. Also, you need freshly roasted beans. Where are you getting your beans from?

@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks for your reply. I'll find some time this weekend to make a video and share with you. I mostly use Lavazza beans. Here in Pakistan we got a few roasters. One of them only sells through their coffee shop called FlowCoffePk. They have very nice tasting coffee that I used once. I intend to get more from them. But mostly it's Lavazza I buy especially their Super Crema blue bag. I hope to master the home coffee barista title. It's after a very long time in my adult life that I have adopted a hobby that I enjoy and find satisfying. I'm hopeful with your videos I'll get to learn more. Thanks for your videos and words of encouragement.

I just want a machine that will extract a good espresso for a simple iced coffee.. And I'm tired of watching videos and taste nothing 😅 Do I even need a machine for this!

I mean if the coffee will be iced, I feel like any coffee prep method will do. Especially if you're adding milk and syrups. But anyway, this is a cheap machine that will accomplish an iced coffee too, as you just need some ice.

You are not cleaning the brew group. You are cleaning the panarello. The brew group cleans itself every time you turn on or off the machine. You have an option to use a degreasing tablet that you put in the coffe inlet. I have to add that you warn us in anorher video not to use the coffe inlet for grind coffe because of mold buildup. This inlet is the same the machine uses when it grinds coffe, so the problem would be the same. I have a 5400 for a year now and zero problems with this.
@TomsCoffeeCorner11 ай бұрын
What you have to be careful of with the coffee inlet, is that the coffee doesn’t get stuck on the funnel. Which generally does happen when you put it in from above. If you do do that, you need to clean it out afterwards. Then you won’t have any issues with mold either.
@SergioGonzalezMartin11 ай бұрын
@@TomsCoffeeCorner There's also coffee all around the path from the grinder to the basket. And there's water vapour. No matter what you do there's always coffee powder. You can get rid of the coffee clumps that get stuck in the walls, that sometimes account for half the dose 🤣, but that's all. I always put mi finger inside the funel to push down all the ground coffe. But as I said before, zero mold in one year.

i have this machine and i genuinely hate the cleaning process... all the ease and comfort of a automatic machine is gone instantly by cleaning this. The coffee is everywhere inside. Removing the tray is clumsy. Working with grease is not nice. The taste is often wrong. Why did i buy this and not a semi automatic. Or something easy to clean
@boatbikemike85715 ай бұрын
Have you had the grinder apart? I have a Gaggia Brera super auto, which uses at least the same brew group, cleaning it every week. The grinder is an extremely fussy, flat burr system. It can only handle a very narrow range of beans in the light to medium roast.
