It's been too long! Just happy to be back with the tutorials. 10.5 continues to make producing so easy, I hope you enjoy the my new workflow for 808s! EDIT: something pointed out to me on reddit... when dragging into optimized on the Q-Sampler you don't need to adjust the pitch at all. It tunes it to be the correct pitch on your keys. When using the Original mode however you would need to do this. @J Ru I struggled with the same when I started out. you would have to go in depth of music theory to have a complete answer. but to begin with I can answer some of your questions to the best of my abilities. yes when a song is in the key of G the other instruments will most likely also be in the key of G but that depends which genre and what is the structure of the song. for example the concept of Jazz which is improvisation is often changes key scales but it still works. thing is you can switch from one key to another by using different methods.. But to be simple yes Basic pop / Rap songs are in one key most of the time. and Yes the 808 is supposed to be in key with the song , but it's not the end of the world once again music has no rules. G6 international hit had an off key 808 , KSHMR did that unintentionally and it sounded good so don't forget to trust your ears. I'm still a very far from understanding scales but one thing I can tell you is that you're patience is required lol .
Excellent. Interface has changed over the years but the general advice got me there as of 2023. Thank you!

@@itstonyholiday Ah everyone has that worry about how well they are communicating technical concepts. You gotta think, you essentially get two types of people here. Those that are looking for an answer asap because they are probably in the middle of a Logic session and those that are looking to understand as a whole. I think this content caters to both. Me personally, I was in the middle of a track and I came here, jumped around a bit to get a jist then did my thing. I then came back later on and watched the video through from start to finish. I felt catered to in both these different modes.

Yes bro! So happy to see you building your channel... the determination and hard work is showing. Before you know it you'll have 100k subs! Just keep pushing... I noticed you slightly covered your method of organizing samples. I really want to get organized and I was hoping you could help. Root note, Dirty, Clean are some categories I saw you implement. Have you ever thought about organizing sounds based off frequency ranges (or peaks)? That way you could match reference tracks with ease. I would love to hear your opinion because you're such a clear and concise guy.
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've been slacking lately on the vids but I'm happy that they're still resonating with people. I plan on making some more soon, just trying to tackle an issue that's going to make for a video. As for the organizing and frequency ranges. You mean for one shots specifically? I haven't really considered it tbh, I find the Key/Dirty/Clean thing to work pretty good as that's really the things that I look for when grabbing an 808. Plus once you drag it into the Q-Sampler it automatically shows you the root note and pitches it to C for you (provided you drag it onto optimized). Conclusively, and this isn't meant to be mean... but I just don't see the argument for why you'd label them by frequency range? Seems more complicated and might just throw me off if I'm in a good workflow. Hope that helps, let me know if this isn't what you meant! And thanks for always showing love Casey, really appreciate it.

To any young aspiring producers, take advice like this guy offers. Take classes. I did 2 years in college when I was 17 and learned a vast amount about music production and theory. You can learn so much online now, but being in a college setting with other like-minded people getting first hand experience with hardware is so good for anyone wanting to progress with anything. Check your local colleges for courses in Music Tech. 2 years will fly and you'll learn more than you would in 10 years just tryna figure it all out on your own

@itstonyholiday3 жыл бұрын
You would do those two different practices for different reasons. I.E. following the kicks is for the rhythm and placement of the 808 notes, the bass notes of your progressions can be for the rhythm as well as the actual note itself. To start I would go off the bass notes of your progression, you'll develop an ear for placing them elsewhere after that.

Yo really liked this video very informative👌🏼 just saying though if you put it to original and then select classic instead of one shot you can get the same effect as the AR without the hassle. But obviously you’d still have to drag out the midi notes to how long you’d like it. Also, if you take the attack to about 20 milliseconds it takes off that little clip you hear when the 808 hits so it’s just a nice thud💯

Great video, thank you, but im confused!! so i have a sample which is in Fmin, can i drag like a 808 which is C3 but then its out of tune, how do i get that particular in tune with the Fmin sample? I noticed that you mention use the Pitch fine knob to put into root key but root key is C3, please help, im new to all this thank you in advance :)
@itstonyholiday3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I made a mistake when I explained that, I mentioned in the pinned comment what I said wrong. Basically if you drag an 808 into the Q-sampler as optimized it will assign it's pitch to the proper keys of your piano roll. The pitch indication is the original pitch of the sample that you dragged in. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

do you know how to make 808s sound more aggressive/punchy like ant chamberlain? i cant figure out how without clipping & too much distortion
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Turn em up and turn your other stuff down. Carve out some mid range and slap an overdrive on there
@danailstamatov91234 жыл бұрын
when I make the 808 it sounds so distorted on my DAW you can barley hear the rest of the stuff but on my phone it sounds so weak, how do I fix it so the mix is cleaner
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
There's no one thing to fix this, it comes time with mixing. Carve out space in the EQ for the 808 in the low end of your instruments and turn it up.

Hey man love the tutorials. They’re far better than anyone I’ve found. I was just wondering, what settings would you change to get of the waves sound that comes after looping the 808, to make it longer? Also, I’d love if you made a video on how to properly mix and master in Logic. Thanks!
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Really happy that you found the content helpful. It's a matter of messing with the loop points, crossfade, velocity, and envelope. Bit of a trial and error type thing. I've had that suggestion a lot. I'm not really the greatest at mixing and mastering I just use Ozone and then mess with the assistant. But in the future when I feel like I have more insight on how, yes! Thanks for watching and the comment
@AnonYmous-wg7kl4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the reply. I also have one more question about the new 10.5 update. In previous versions, ESX24 could be used to make synths from scratch, and basically design them how you want them. Is there any way to do that in the new Logic Sampler? Thanks again
@itstonyholiday4 жыл бұрын
@@AnonYmous-wg7kl I never created synths from scratch from within EXS24, was there oscillators in there? I just used it as a sampler. I don't believe there is any oscillators within the Multi-Sampler. You can however take one shots and create really cool instruments with the tools they give you inside it. That's what I'm thinking I will do for my next video but just need to fine tune a few things first. Thanks for the shout!

Why do I want quick sampler optimized rather than quick sampler original?
@itstonyholiday3 жыл бұрын
Two different modes with different functions. But the main reason why I do is optimized will map the pitch.
