Good luck mate..... Its 23 yrs since my last fight in march 2023 and it feels like yesterday..... Boxing is the hardest phsycal thing I've ever done yet the best thing I've ever experienced win or lose and if at the time you ain't enjoying it (you won't know at the time as no time to think lol) it's something you won't regret and no one can take it away from you....... Remember "winners never quit and quitters never win"...... I truly wish you all the best mate and there's no losers in boxing mate just a winner and runner up....... 99% of people can't get past the training to even get in the ring and have the heart and arsehole to have a go..... I'm nearly 43 and watched this cos I want to have one last go at it and feel that buzz 1 last time..... I'm now fat old and so so unfit after 5yrs of depression and I don't care if I win or lose I want to do it 1 time before it's to late for me....... Sorry for the waffle but no one has replied or whatever but I hope you stuck with it mate and I truly wish you all the luck in the world!........ Try and relax as weird as it sounds relax focus and keep your hands up!!! Please let us know how you got on 👍🏻

@@daveyber3564 No worries mate, I know how it is. I had the fight on Sunday gone - didn't win but gave a good show & it was fairly close. Watching it back, the main thing was I wasn't slipping enough as I jabbed so kept trading punches instead of getting unanswered hits. Like you said though it was a great experience, raised money for a good cause & was definitely worth it, even if it was just to prove to myself that I could do it. All the best with those other fights you mentioned, depression can be awful but it doesn't have the final say!

Tony is definitely gonna achieve legendary status in the boxing world at one point in his YT career (he already is but I mean in mainstream boxing) with the quality of his videos. I can’t tell how much his vids help me, I’ve been boxing for 8 weeks now and some people already think that I’ve been boxing for a year+ because I watch his videos, envision the movements/tips, and then apply them in training and it’s been fantastic. I’m really glad to have his channel through which we can learn the sweet science with his love and passion for it. Much love from Iraq.

I took part in my first event a couple of days ago. Was a phenomenal experience and I loved every minute of it. Battered the guy for two rounds but gassed out in the last but I still won on points and it was the best feeling over ever had having my hand raised. Fitness and nutrition is so essential and massive to your possible success with an event like this. Great video this is👏

I had a charity White Collar fight (UWCB) when I was 56 (although did some training between the ages of 35 and 45 and then started again at 55 to fend off middle age spread) so not a complete newbie. Due to the age difference between me and the rest of the guys in the group I got a stand in who'd done it 6 months previously but did not keep up the training afterwards. He was (only) 10 years younger than me but nothing like as fit because, as you point out in the video, you have to take it seriously. I trained pretty much every day either at the boxing gym or cardio stuff at PureGym. People "play" football etc, but you can't "play" boxing (at any level). Having a boxing match was very much a "bucket list" experience. Loved it (and loved winning). Watch the video on You Tube not infrequently!

I started boxing again in 2019, the official reason was “fitness” but in the back of my mind I’d like do something like this someday. With covid & shutdowns, I didn’t get as much sparring in as I hoped. This video just reignited that feeling this is something I want especially as I had a few crap sessions lately. I was away all of January & we’d had a longer Christmas break before that because of Ormicon being brand new. I had my first sparring today (like 4th normal class) since early December and it felt like everyone else was streets ahead, like I forgot all the basics. I felt like such a looser because I made so many stupid mistakes. Of course feeling better now, I know that’s part of it. Somedays you’ll be terrible in boxing, you’ll make dumb mistakes or your legs will feel like they’re stuck in cement. It’s those days that build you into a good fighter. I was terrible when I was called up the first time but even by my second time tonight I did slightly better. Anyway, my point is learn how a knock, whether that’s a literal punch or to your ego. I think boxing really teaches you to pick your self up & that’s why it’s such amazing sport. This video sort of just reminded of that and reminded me why I love this sport.

Wasn’t a fan of people who came in to do charity boxing. Wasn’t even about the charity. It was people looking for an ego stroke. They came in with an awful mentality. And worse. There was a group of them. Like sheep, baaaa. They would strut and mean mug…smirk and be challenging… Was stupid. None of them could fight. They were used to nights out in clubs… mates being there. Shouting and bragging… I’d look away, be quiet, do my own thing. I’d boxed for years, so I knew how it went. They trained with coaches, getting fit, learning basics. Two months before they got to spar us boxers. Two months of petty idiots giving an attitude. They don’t understand, I’m being humble… they view it as weakness. Finally we get to spar. And I’m there, to bring them on, make them work and see what it’s about. It’s light sparring for me. Some, would go in guns blazing… like getting hit by flying leaves… if I let them hit me. They would gas in a few seconds. Others would mean mug, give you the “death stare”… then bell went and they would flick out a punch… Sigh. They look of shock on their face… when they didn’t tag me… hold on, it’s not like the movies… I’m not knocked out… Then id let them hit me… Again, the look of shock… I’m still standing, and I’m smiling. Unfazed. They look for the clock… barely 20 seconds in to a two minute round. And you see all that bravado, that mean mugging, go out the window. They panic. Its just them and me. No mates to bitch to, no mates to save them… But, It’s just sparring, and I know I’m there to train them. So, I tell them about being relaxed, breathing, work behind the jab, hands up, footwork. Relax. Breath. They got 3 months to train before they fought each other for their respective charities.

So , do you work as part of the white collar boxing team, training the fighters? How do you match the fighters to make it a fair fight? Is it by weight? Age?
@ZFosterZ Жыл бұрын
@@barriniho no. I had nothing to do with the charity boxing. It wasn’t white collar, exactly… slight loop hole. I was experienced, so I was allowed to help train the learners through sparring. I’d be a punchbag for them to work on their combos, breathing, defence and movement. The way matches were decided came down to weight, and perceived ability. Same gender fights too. Age could be a factor. But if need be, an older person could be paired with someone younger. Usually fighters were paired as equally as possible. Sometimes fights didn’t go as we expected. I sparred with two different guys. One was a natural banger, he could throw hard punches and out of all of them was by far and away naturally the best and showed the most promise. Another guy, he was a bleeder and was always getting hurt in sparring, or having to stop due to his nose bursting open like a tomato. And yet, for some odd reason, the best guy was paired with worst..! Why? They were in same weight class. How did the fight go? I thought it was a total mismatch, and expected an early stoppage, likely referee have to save the bleeder and stop the contest within a punch or two landing from the Banger. However, Bleeder won! And convincingly. I was shocked. There was on thing I overlooked in their training. Bleeder was always first in the door and the last to still be working on the bags at night! During his bout, he kept composed and boxed the best id seen, Banger got way too emotional and just fell apart, while Bleeder simply picked him off with straight shots, jabs and crosses and a nippy lead hook. Banger couldnt land anything and nearly was stopped as he was eating shot after shot.

Hi , I recently started boxing because I love the sport and really need to lose weight , I’ve been doing it for 4 weeks and lost 8kg so far and decided that I would love to challenge myself in a boxing match , the fight would be in 6 months and 3 weeks so I would have 4+ months to train myself from your videos and also do the 8 weeks training with White Collar , I’m 22 and would really want to take this seriously and I think having a plan/goal would help me a lot . Do you think it’s a good idea or should I leave it? I also take answers from other people !

Hi Tony, I've signed up to a white collar boxing event in South Shields with zero boxing or fighting experience. Obv you being a local lad and a fellow Sunderland fan I've been following you for awhile your videos are brilliant especially the footwork videos. Thanks for sharing. I love it I run everyday at a decent level and love the different training boxing gives you I have no issue and I am improving but I don't like punching people in the face is this a common thing and is there a way to change my mindset? Hi Tony, I’m in training now for my first white collar fight on april 22 in Middlesbrough. The part about living the lifestyle rings true with me, been training like a dog since the new and have dropped 18lbs already with 10 weeks still to go. Love the videos, with the time I’ve got left am i better training to bulk up or training for speed and endurance?

Speed and endurance! Worst thing is getting tired during the fight.

Speed and endurance pal. Plenty of sparing is the best way to prepare. Always try to learn from sparing sessions and try to spar with someone better than you. The amount of nervous enjoy you use before the fight is unreal!!

I’d say “No” to a charity boxing white collar UWCB as it’s expensive. You’ve to buy everything new off UWCB. Then you can be put in with someone that’s a lot better than you. It’s not worth it.
@zeizaze95162 жыл бұрын
@Spider Gorge I thought it was free? So you have to pay for all the gear ? Boxing gloves and kit etc?
@olivercorlett430 Жыл бұрын
You don’t have to buy anything off of UWCB, however they are known to stitch people up with matchups pretty regularly, when I participated last year all the boxers signed an open letter criticising the organisation for how badly it was organised. You also have to sell a minimum of ten tickets and £50 for charity by week 4 of training, and the tickets sales don’t actually go to charity. Its great for people who want to get a taste of boxing without all the weight cuts and other things a real amateur fight entails, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

I've had to white collars. And I wanted to turn amateur but most clubs look down on it and now I train at a amateur club that I won't name and I've been training going every session for past 3 months and the coach doesn't want to get me a medical because my fittness is apparently too low when others who are licensed can't take a punch and have bad stamina

It's hard to disagree with Mr Jeffries. I do feel like people in contact sports should be prepared to be hit in the head. There was a lot of talk about not getting hit in the head. Also a lot of talk about impressing your mates. Of course I respect Tony and I watch his videos because I want his advice and opinion. Still think boxers aught to be ok with being hit.🤷

I had a charity White Collar (UWCB) fight at age 56, although I did some training between the ages of 35 and 45 (gave it up when I moved to a new town), and started training again at 55 to fend off middle age spread, so was not a complete novice (but had never competed). During the 8 weeks training I did something pretty much every day either by doing extra sessions at the boxing gym or cardio stuff at PureGym classes. Due to age difference between me and the guys in the group, I got a stand in who was (only) 10 years younger. He'd done the event 6 months earlier but had not carried on the training and was not fight fit. I won on points and watch the video on You Tube now and again. Still training (and light sparring) at age 61, but wouldn't fight again. As I see it I took the test (it takes guts to get in there) and passed, and have nothing to gain by doing it again. Quit as a winner!

Still sparring at age 62. Was asked if I'd do another charity White Collar boxing match. "Sure, if you can find me an opponent". Age may only be a number; but to a point. There is no way I'm going up against a twenty (or thirty) guy, but I'll fight anyone in their 50s 🥊🥊🥊. On the whole happy to retire undefeated.
@Alan-xxxxxx Жыл бұрын
I've signed up to my first white collar boxing match which will happen a few days after my 60th in September. My concerns are similar, I'm dreading getting put up against a 20 something. I'm doubting there will be many (or anyone) in my age range.
@paulmbarkley Жыл бұрын
@@Alan-xxxxxx If there is no one suitable in the group they should bring in a "stand in" who's closer to your age. I was 56. Everyone else in the group was 20s/30s. They brought in a "stand in" (someone who's done it before) who was 45 (let's face it they were never going to find a 56 year old). As a "stand in" he had not been training for the fight and only had a few days notice. On the other hand I had been training very hard. He was quite a bit heavier than me but nothing like as fit. I think a lot of it is going to depend upon how "professional" the training team is and how carefully they deal with matching. I was fortunate in that regard but I hear not all organisers are as careful with matching, Good luck!

Do you always have to enter the ring with that "kill or be killed" mentality? Isn't there a massive disparity with weight, height and fitness levels? Boxing isn't about hurting people right?
