In today’s video, I discuss pocket watchers in the trucking industry. A pocket watcher is someone who is fixated on knowing how much money another person makes. What are your thoughts?

Net is more personal. Gross, when it comes to establishing validity with a job is what matters. I agree. Even child support agents, leasing agents, dealerships…they all go off gross. In regards of sharing your paystubs aye BE my guest but just know you gone have haters REGARDLESS. Good video though , all off the dome!

Sometimes it is not how much you make per year, But what you do with your money I know people that make over $100gr per year and they are broker than me. With trucking I'm looking at it as a way to get closer to my goals .

Great video! The people pocket watching are listening to those who continue to say “there’s no money in trucking because it’s dying”. The truckers who are making money & showing you receipts aren’t going to spend time trying to convince you that trucking is great! Thats for you to decide!

At my current job, I noticed they’ve started taking a bit less out of my paycheck ever since the new year. At $18.50 hourly, if I worked exactly 47.5 hours in a week, my net pay was $700 and change (less than $701). A few weeks ago I worked 46.6 hours and net $698, though my hourly pay was still the same. I’m not sure what changed but I’m glad. I drive a tractor-trailer dump truck and haul asphalt to the paver, so I’m home every night. I live in south Ga, so the cost of living is lower than some other parts of the country. Also, a typical work week is around 50-55 hours, and occasionally we have to work Saturdays and can work over 65 hours. I just remember those two particular paystubs.

A lot of people get sold dreams in this trucking industry which is 1 of the reason peeps ask about net pay…

Trucking…. in an office or the streets pocket watching is everywhere. Even your neighbors will do it. Some ppl just slick about it tho…. They will see you drive a certain car and ask “ what do you do for a living “ it’s levels to pocket watching that you gotta pay attention to. Co worker might ask how many hours you worked last week. When i did P&D they used to get mad when a low seniority driver got sent back out to do a swap
@imanthonytv3 ай бұрын
True..It’s definitely levels to it 😅

P&D guys will be asking you what swap you did so they could know how many extra hours you did LOL some swaps are farther than others

I am frequently asked about my weekly earnings, and people are often surprised when I tell them it ranges from $4,200 to $4,500.

Technically the definition of net is even after taxes. That's why I use the term gross to the truck and gross take home

It’s crazy because you got folks who say dang truck drivers make a lot of money while only knowing what a driver grosses but then you got folks who say man that job don’t pay enough once you take in account what they net “may” be. Depending on your lifestyle and debt levels, what one person may deem to be a lot of money might not be a lot to another. That’s why it’s great to just mind your trucking business. 👊🏾

Gross has value. But it’s up to you to save up, cut your overhead expenses, put money into a Roth IRA, etc
@ukayhemi63853 ай бұрын
There’s a lot of variables in this industry. Location is also a big part, some are also able to go home more, some are not. Some go home more vs the person that doesn’t & Work ethic plays a factor depending on what lane you’re in. Everyone doesn’t have the same overhead as the next either.

Most people don't realize that there is a big difference between being rich and being wealthy. Pay check to pay check is a mindset. Yes it's hard work to and get out of debt. But very well worth it. A person at the same company can make way less than the next and be in a better financial situation. The key is living below your means to start. Next is think long-term not just week to week. Example is 401k at your company. Roth 401k is better. You don't have to understand compound interest to earn it. But if a person took the time listen and/or read how it works, it would make saving and building wealth easier. “He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn't, pays it,” said Albert Einstein

when i started Driving 34 years ago no one really cared how much you made. we did talk about if we were shorted on our pay. And you had some drivers half working and getting upset on why a few drivers were getting better runs.

Bro, people pocket watch in every industry. It is really bad in the trucking industry. I myself, used to search out a driver at a company I was researching; to find out what that driver was bringing home before I would even apply to the company. Sad but true.

I don’t get why people are in anyone pockets but I understand they wanna the net pay because they have poor spending habits. They want to know if they get the same job as you, they want to know what are they working with when it comes to money

The trucking industry says net is your take-home and gross is what goes to the truck but technically net means after all expenses including taxes. This is why I like to use the more technical term "gross to the truck" and "gross take home". And then net is what you actually took home after all taxes

Is that Florida? Its beautiful out there man. But, yeah there are pocket watchers EVERYWHERE. I just tell them "I don't talk about finances." Or "that's my business." Super Nosey people get on my last nerve, but you just gotta keep calm and move in silence. Those fools can go do their own research and look up salaries and careers they're interested in themselves. They know how to look up everything else all day long, so go look up that.
@imanthonytv3 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s Florida. Exactly 👍🏾

I hear you. But these companies lie….. they can tell the average salary is 90K but you gotta work 60 hours and be at top pay to get it. You come in and only make 65k. I just had a company lie to me about a job, the pay matched what they told me but i applied for no touch freight and pulling doubles they had me 100% touching freight and working 14 hours a day . Job was supposed to be 8 hours day shift, ending up being 14 hours night shift and i lived 1 hour away so 16 hour a days basically
@TLACY6063 ай бұрын
@@HeyArnoldGotAFootballHead Yeah, man I understand. But what you're talking about is being lied to by the companies, which is on them not you. So in your case and many others, then you asking questions and being curious is justified, just as long as you respect people's boundaries and understand at the end of the day they may not want to tell you anything at all. Alot of times in this crazy world we live in, we don't know until AFTER we already started something or made a mistake. Which is ok. We all are human at the end of the day. But pocket watching and being super nosey is just a NO GO. Its very rude and an invasion of privacy. So if I would never tell anyone, EXACTLY what YOU make. Its not your job to satisfy everyone. They will just have to put the work in and make their own money and learn how to manage their finances better. Alot of people are just too lazy and want a quick fix to their problems. They fail to realize that life is a journey, not a race. Sorry for the essay, but I'm not blaming you at all. Just people really need to understand this.
@imanthonytv3 ай бұрын
@tlacy2755 Well said bro. I understand where Arnold is coming from as well but to your point, being dishonest about pay or any aspect of the job and what that entails falls back on the employer.

@6lemans103 ай бұрын
Exactly.
@imanthonytv3 ай бұрын
That’s cool. It’s nothing wrong with that but that’s not what I was referring to. I specifically stated in the video that someone sharing their gross helps validate and confirm what a company actually pays. I’m talking about knowing what someone takes home (net). Asking someone what they net is more personal than asking someone what a particular company pays. That’s my point.
