Worked for a bank. Seemed I was always trying to do my job, and cover for someone away or training new person. Never got caught up; never allowed OT. Then we went fully computerized & my job was "technically eliminated" by HQ out east. I was to be kept on & shuffled into different position when one came up. Strangely enough I still had as much to do as before in my "none existent" job. Oh, & they told me about the job elimination the day before I went on a vacation I'd been planning for ages! 😡 When I came back from holidays I decided it was not the place I wanted to be no matter what new position became available. I also decided, since they deemed my position unnecessary, to leave right before their fiscal year end & busiest bond/interest time. They discovered after six months that my job position was indeed a vital one. Meanwhile I'd found my dream job. 😅

On my first day once they laid out what they wanted me to do they told me that they do not offer overtime and if I was having problems finishing my work in a timely manner “then we should talk”. Fluent in passive aggressive speech, I freaked out when I got overwhelmed terrified I was going to be fired. If everything is a priority then you need to assign each priority project to different employees so they can focus on them. Humans can realistically only focus on a single task at a time with any degree of success. Whenever a manager says you should quit if you don't like it, they just displayed they do not want to work with you, they just want to push you down. The problem with that is they do actually want you to quit if you refuse to meet their demands. That way, you won't be eligible for unemployment and they won't be on the hook for it. This is so extremely common in corporate. And that last question: never think you're irreplaceable. There is always someone who WILL do more for their career. Once I set up an actual customer service, managed it and created from scratch a complete reporting/business analysis tool because there was no budget for actual external software. Put my love and life in it. They hired a low salary position to help me maintain it... You can guess the rest. You aren't irreplaceable as an employee, ever.

Oh, I’m on a register, and I’m the relief cashier when people need to go on breaks, and I’m ordering freight for one of the departments, and I need to down-stock melting chocolates (which is a pain mainly because those boxes are 25+ lbs) oh and you’ll also need to cover lunches for the front manager and the fabric counter. And you probably need your own lunch in there too. It adds up, and sometimes they wonder why it takes me so long to order🫣. Go home." I was used to jobs where they'd try to squeeze you for time, so I mentioned I didn't expect overtime pay and she just shrugged and said to enjoy my weekend. Great place to work :) Very chill.
