In 1996 I asked for some gardening tools for my birthday. My then 13 year old daughter bought me Aenima, along with a few assorted actual gardening tools which have long rusted away. Our son is 5 and has gained an increase in amusement towards our musical taste lately. We've recently been talking about taking him to his first concert. We were mainly concerned with the loudness. But now that he tells us to turn it up while we're driving we've determined that the noise shouldn't be a big issue (he will be using earbuds when the time comes though). I'd love for his first live music experience to be with Tool but I feel like it might be too much and might want to start with something different.

So I have enjoyed this album. But never really gave it the love it really deserves. I'm one of the few Tool fans that put 10,000 days at the top of their discography. I recently have been hitting maybe what some would consider a mid life crisis. I'm in my mid thirties. Right before the Pandemic hit my mother started having medical complications. From October 2019 to April 2020. I watched her lose her mind because of complications with seizers. To the point she eventually started slipping in and out of a coma and took her last breath. In this same time line, I had met a wonderful girl who I felt came to me and I to her for a purpose. She was dealing with some life struggles at that time as well. We both just fit each other's needs at the right place and time. We fell in love very quickly and I decided I wanted to have a child with her. And we did just that within about 2 months of meeting each other. The last thing I ever said to my mother was that I loved her deeply and I told her her grandsons name. Kelly Eaton Smith. She wasn't awake. But she was conscious. In a medically induced coma because her seizures had become too erratic. There were restrictions on visitation because of the pandemic and they were hurrying me out for the night. I had ahold of her hands. And she barely had any strength but I could feel her trying to grip my hands as they were telling me to leave. She didn't want to let go. She passed the next day. My brother had decided to take her off of the machines and let her pass. As she was often in pain. And when she was awake, half the time she didn't even know who she was or where she was. She was a smart and amazing woman. And we both felt that she would never want to continue on like this. I still don't know if we made the right decision. But it didn't look like things were going to get better. So we did what we thought she would want. It was like I had been given everything I've ever wanted (a woman and our son growing in her belly) all while watching everything I've ever had being taken from me (my wonderful and loving mother) at the same time. It fucked my head up very badly. Paired with the pandemic bullshit, I've been hopping from job to job ever since. It's like my give a shit button has just overloaded and stopped working. I gained almost 100 pounds. And though I'm not always a sack of shit, there has been many days where I just lay still and silent hoping I just deteriorate into nothing. My child's mother finally has left me. I'm currently still unemployed (but have a few interviews lined up for the rest of the week. Wish me luck if you feel inclined to do so.) AND on top of all that. I had slowly descended back into a drug habit of using MA. It was just dabbling here and there after my mom died. And remained quite like that for the rest of mine and my girlfriend's relationship. After she broke up with me though it started escalating. Still not dangerously. But concerning enough. My brother and the other woman who lives in our house were starting to notice my behavior. My son who is two and a half now, I began to become very short with him and strict to the point of not physical abuse. But definitely mentally harming him. Then one weekend in January. I was using while everyone was out in a trip. Just me and my son at home. We were running low on groceries and I was feeding him something. He didn't seem to want it and eventually threw it on the floor. Which made me very angry and I yelled and all this that and the other. I sent him to bed and he cried for his mom that night till he fell asleep. All this plus some things I had been pondering at the time, put me into a spell of mania. I had been researching things and reading material concerning something specific I was looking for. (It's much deeper. But this is already too long of a comment. But it had to do with my grandpa's military service. He was a pilot, physics major, and computer programmer. He had a lot to do with the early long range weapons and missile programs in the 40's 50's and 60's He was a very informative man. And I just wished I had paid attention to him when I was growing up. But by the time I knew him he had become an old angry alcoholic who repeated himself too much and too loudly.) I started breaking down words to their root meanings and translations. I literally read thousands of pages of just any and everything. Some of it I'm not even sure was real. Because I can't seem to find a lot of the material I had seen while being like this. I started getting into the realm of quantum physics. My grandfather would babble about this stuff and it made no sense to me. It was interesting but it's way beyond my intelligence level. I began to develop this theory that there are some bands and other art forms that are purposely sending cryptic messages from government or other higher powers to people leaking certain bits concerning certain very important bits of information... Like a way of slowly introducing the world into a conscious change or shift of some sort. Good or bad I couldn't tell. Anyways... It all became too much for me. And I became scared. I had been awake for three days and thought that I had over stimulated my brain and would be stuck like this forever. Like my thoughts and my self were two different things. And my thoughts were pestering me with fear of the unknown. I know this all sounds so dumb and crazy. But I just happened to turn this album on while I was laying in bed. Trying to get everything to stop. From that opening chime noise or whatever it is on this track, I was immediately put in what felt like a trance of tranquility. Listening to the sounds of Danny, Justin and Adam, and Maynard's voice soothed my mind. And what I took from this album is that in times of desperation and need, you can only choose from two paths. Fear or love. The unknown will always be present. But you have to keep discovering the information the universe delivers to you. And the way you process it will determine the way you use said information. So take it slow and don't feel so afraid. Even when we feel alone there's always a smile or something that can be found from people or just nature in general that surrounds us. Love will prevail if you allow it to. This manic spell all happened back in January 2023. Its now five months later in Late June. Since then I dropped connection with my dealer. I don't use any drugs. Hell I don't even drink coffee anymore. Sugar is probably my only vice still left lol. I've been exercising at least 5 days a week. And have lost near 40 lbs.down from 290 to 240 (still have a long ways to go. I'd like to get back to 190.) I been searching for employment (this is still my down fall. But I'm working on it I think none of the positions I'm.interviewing for will fit perfectly with me being a single/part time father and other variations of my lifestyle). I've been rediscovering my passion for listening and creating music. Currently making goals of reinvesting in equipment to work on an album I'm conceiving. I have no intentions with it other than I just enjoy making music and writing. (As this comment would imply, I have a lot to say. Though I understand if no one wants to listen to the thoughts of an odd individual. I am aware that, like the rest of my race, I'm not quite sane in the night. But I'm sure I may find a spirit or two who may relate.) And most importantly, I am trying my best to stop pushing my anger onto my son. Instead of thinking of discipline first, I am trying my hardest to understand his behavior and make decisions based on how he feels first then judge accordingly as to how I feel and how I can improve the situation, be it through guidance or discipline, I'm using love as the main tool to nurture and raise him. I can say that since all that happened. I've only raised my voice at him maybe a handful of times. And our connection, even though he's only two, is quite amazing. I love that he trusts me and knows how to communicate his feelings to me at such a young age. His mother and I are doing well with each other. I doubt we'll ever get back together. But we are coparenting in a very halealthy way. No court or anything involved. And I'm just praying that I can keep this up and get back to a place I'm proud to be. So after saying all that. I just want to thank this band for this album. Cause I believe that could have gone much worse very quickly had I not had some sort of way to diffuse what my mind was slowly doing to my reality. Though I realize my interpretation of the album isn't what the band was trying to convey. I also think they purposely make things abstract so that people can find their own meanings in their art by way of relation. And for that reason the fact that they even chose the name "Tool" has such a beautiful meaning... And just uh.. yea... Thank you.. I pray happiness and prosperity reaches us all at even our deepest and darkest moments. ❤️

Ahh my friend, the first time I saw Tool was at a small club in SE DC called The Capital Ballroom in 1996 just after Ænema was released. I was on 2 vial drops of LSD-25 and about 15 minutes before Tool took the stage, a barely audible bass frequency could be heard and slowly it increased in volume, then at around 10 minutes people started holding their chests because the bass frequency had turned into a weapon and just before everyone started to leave Danny came out and started the intro to Third Eye, then each instrument followed suit. Then, while I was peaking on the cleanest acid I've ever had I saw MJK painted perfectly blue on his right side and silver on his left side perfectly 50/50. From the top of his head down, there was a perfect line dividing him in half. Besides seeing both pink floyd shows at RFK in 94, nothing has topped that experience and I've seen hundreds of shows. I'm so grateful to live 30 minutes from the 9:30 Club in NW DC. Cheers my friend!

The reason it takes TOOL so long to do an album is because they are actually taking the time to write some of the most awesome music the world has ever heard.

Well if you listen to the forward observer, he says it's because the other band members of Tool make sure that the music that is played, is always exactly what they want, before he gets his hands on it. Personally I believe it.. This is ONLY musical act that crafts, creates and makes sure that it's at a Beethovian level before it hits the public.. Thanks Mr. Carey. Mr.Jones, Mr.Chancellor, and Mr. Turn down a commission at West point for all that you do, to show this generation and those of the past, what true music should be.. I am forever grateful and fortunate to be able to hear it.. The Angels of the musical choir in heaven sing your praises as well. Stay steadfast in what you do. We as the fans definitely appreciate it.

As with most Tool songs, the more you listen to it, its like peeling back the layers of an onion coming closer to the core of the true meaning of the song, only to find your own meaning within, and then somehow the song becomes yours. I saw them and my beautiful Maynard james keenan on 10/11/23 it aas incredible to see how active all of them really are during the song. Maynard was running around everywhere, adam wouldnt stop bopping his entire body to the song, danny was head banging and smashing the heads of those guitars, and justin was just, well you know justin. This was the first song of the setlist, and as soon as they started to play this, i stood up and screamed so loud. This song is so amazing it deserves more credit.
