Can't believe they played this live!!! This is my favorite Tool song!!!
@michaelbinbc9 ай бұрын
I heard them play this live in a 300 seat club back in 1994. I was working the kitchen, so I didn't actually 'see' it, but the stage was 30 feet across from the kitchen doors, so it sounded f'ing amazing! But my favourite of the night was No Quarter. A rush of energy flowed from the tips of my toes to the top of my skull, and every hair on my body stood on end. Every time I've heard it since I get the same rush, bringing me right back to that night. F'ing electric! 😎

@@keenanehrhart3707 I’d have to say Ænima is my favorite if I were to choose just one. I feel like it’s got some really catchy riffs, and the song Hooker With A Penis is actually one of my favorite songs of theirs. It’s a very underrated song and it’s one of their heaviest. It is neither the canon to find such good audio in YT, nor to listen through good earphones or a proper sound system & speakers (obviously I'm not talking about expensive hi end but just decent equipment). There was a world wide flood that left me stranded on a nearly submerged pile of rubble and debris. I saw no other survivors. That is until all three of my kids came swimming up to me. They climbed aboard the higher ground, with my oldest strutting proudly and triumphantly to meet me. As if to say, I made it Dad. There were smiles on the faces of my other two children. It has an anger without being mean, it just bluntly calls out daily life issues/human conditions that effect us daily without getting "spiritual." Just as Shakespeare contains a plethora of situations so corespondent to reality, Tool contains a range of emotional stimuli that allow us to utilize this artistic medium to learn about reality, as we are escaping from it. Safety is a place we create, by creating a feeling, and that feeling is only made by other humans. Tool is safety for me. I find my home nestled inside it’s red, blue, and black ribbons of silken spirals melodically pulsating to the rhythm of a 14 piece drum set played by the devil himself, while an angel of death sings songs of sorrow and rebirth.

We weren't sure what to think of each other when we first met but we went to his house got stoned & listened to Undertow. I only knew him for 2 years but we actually went through a lot together. We met in small town Nebraska but said fuck that place, got a wild hair up our ass & decided to take a greyhound bus to Oregon stopping in Vegas for a couple nights. Had a blast in Vegas & ended up at Cougar Mountain right outside Eugene Oregon. We were absolutely dazzled & blown away by the majestic landscape, people, & drugs (coming from Nebraska). We were living out of a tent like a couple hippies in the mountains for the summer. Summer was about over & the weather was about to change. We didn't wanna go back so I talked him into hitching down the Pacific coast or "highway 1" to San Diego. I said I had seen some of it as a kid & he needs to experience it. This was back in '94-'95 mind you so hitching was still a thing. We had quite an adventure slowly going down the coast, stopping in San Jose, Santa Cruz, & Rosemead. It was the best & happiest time of my entire life, going on that adventure. We parted ways in San Diego & I went back home & he ended up going to Alaska to work on a fishing boat. He made enough money to get himself a trailer back home & got a girl & knocked her up. I saw him one other time when he was getting his trailer ready. We partied & reminisced about our trip. I ended up moving down to Arizona & I guess we kinda lost touch. About 6 months later I called my Mom & she had told me that he passed away. "Suicide by cop". It saddened me & kinda shocked me but I thought back to all the times we had joked about it & talked about how fucked up our lives were. To this day though I cant help but think it should have been me. He was young successful, was about to get married & have a baby. I'm 44. Never been married, never had kids, & I'm a complete fuck up & loser. The water came & took him & embraced him, took him to that place that he longed for & it left me there on that rock, with the sun beating down on me, punishing me. It should have been me....

Thanks guys. I was having a moment there. I try not to dwell on it too much. Everything happens for a reason blah, blah, blah. And yes, I feel very blessed & fortunate to have lived my life and the many awesome experiences I've had. ☮👍🙂❤☮

Ha, I was 17 in 93 and got stranded in Omaha for the summer when some fuckhead in Council bluffs stole my motorcycle on the way back from the Chicago Dead show. I had a blast in Nebraska but i live 45 minutes from Cougar hot springs. I prolly left a few bastards in Nebraska and Iowa, dem girls like to screw.

My absolute favorite Tool albums are Undertow, Aenima, and Lateralus. Wasn't huge on Opiate bc of its sound quality/roughness. Gun to my head i HAVE TO pick a fave, I'd maybe say Ænima. Toss - up between Ænima and Undertow - bc they first blew my mind in the 90s and led me to here. I hope you all are looking inward as well as outward! Love to you!

To say this song is understated in how good it is in itself is an understatement. This is like your friend who likes The Downward Spiral but has really only heard Closer and Reptile while Ruiner sits there to be stumbled upon only by those who actually listen to the album and not just the hits. This is that for Tool. I know a number of people, Tool fans, who ignore or find this song unappealing on Undertow even still that I've slowly introduced to this and it rose to each one of their top five Tool tracks period. To make another analogy, it's someone finally getting why Hourglass is not only not annoying but is the best ignored track on Eat the Elephant.
