Danny Carey's math with the slow and steady pace of Maynard's vocals... such intense calmness. The drumbeats are always so intricate yet SO balanced. I grew up listening to a lot of Travis Barker, Joey Jordison and Danny Carey, along with many other talented drummers.. but all their tenacity and or state of Zen they seem to be in always made me want to TRY to drum as well. I did for a while but it wasn't a logical financial choice where I am from and how I grew up so I just stuck to messing around on every instrument I could get my hand on and always randomly bursting out singing.

Since you mentioned Danny Carey's drumming, you all might be interested in a fusion jazz group he was part of recently called "Volto!". He did a podcast where he talked about recording their album. The band recorded everything live in studio together, and they did several takes. Danny said that for all but one of the tracks, they chose their first take to put on the album which amazes me because the stuff they do is technical as hell and very quick.
