Testing a few different .223 ammo weights in a Ruger MPR AR-15 chambered in 5.56. How does it compare to 5.56 from the same rifle? I guess we wont be able to test this anymore after the "Assault Weapons" ban.🤣🤣🤣 Frontier, Hornady, PMC X-Tac, Winchester, PPU, Sierra.

Great video. Those groups are respectable. I like to season my barrel with 60-100 rounds of the same ammo, before it reaches an equilibrium for maximum potential accuracy. Tiborasaurus Rex gave me the idea, and with 1 of my rifles, it likes 55, 62, 69, 75 and 77g about the same. The Live stream last night was a good time. I think that you have a great attitude and subscribers. Stay awesome. Also, you got me looking at the ton of .410 slugs that I bought years ago, but forgot about. $4.45 for a box of 25 shells, with 1/5 oz slugs, and #6 shot. Western Super X.

I've done some accuracy experimenting with 233 and 556 ammo. What I found was that in my particular rifle, which has a 556 chamber, accuracy with each was pretty much the same. Like I commented on in your last video it comes down to the individual arm. So it's always best to test ammo. Awesome video.

Another good test Brother. I did 6 years enlisted in my local Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit during the 80's. Of course we only fired 5.56. We had the old M-16A1'S and used 55gr FMJ. I just recently picked up my 1st AR-15. It's a S&W M&P model. I've got around 500 round put back for it. Mainly IMI 62gr green tip, IMI 55gr FMJ and some Winchester 55gr FMJ. All of it is 5.56. I've never fired .223 through it. As long as I can get 5.56 I'll stick with it. But if I come across any deals on .223, I'd sure buy it up and put it back for a rainy day.

Good video Tools. I noticed the note you threw up on the screen about the zeroing being at 50 yrds so the groups at 100 yards under those conditions were respectable. You might get a few sheets of those round orange stickers to make it easier to see the circles at distance. I've seen you shot enough to know you can shoot just fine. If you wanted to go towards a different gun for 223 I would just build/by an upper with the same length barrel But really this is where the 223 Wylde chamber comes into play. Even though 223 can be shot in 556 chambered rifle it won't be as accurate. Thats where the 223 wylde will let you shoot both and get equal accuracy. Keep up the good work.

That would make a great video series. 223 Wilde chamber vs a 5.56mm chamber both shooting 223 ammo of different weights, velocities, etc. 3) 223 Wilde chambered guns against 3) 5.56mm chambered guns all firing 223 ammo. However, the cost of ammo today may make that a pricey proposition

If you color in the circle with the Sharpie it's easier to concentrate on at 100yds. If you pick up a bolt gun there are a lot of choices but for the money a Ruger American is hard to beat especially with at least a 16x scope. Tiny holes are hard to see at 100yds. Good comparison of light vs heavy weight.

you should think about picking up a cheap Spotting Scope I got one at Harbor Freight for like 50 dollars. it is good at well over 100 yds. to let you see where you are hitting. really great if you have a friend shooting with you so you can call every shot for each other and when you are shooting alone like you do it can save you a lot of walking and ammo. Binoculars work too that's what we use to use, but I like the spotting scope much better now that I have one.

That 77gr SMK is an absolute demon in the IMI RazorCore Match load. Tight groups at 500 for me. I've seen people keep it tight to 700 yards. I'm not that good and can't see that far with a 40x varmint scope. I bought CZ bolt rifles years ago to test the ' inherent accuracy' of 223, 6.5G and 7.62x39 rounds I was using. It's a flawed way to do things, but it's what I can up with. Was tired of different ARs throwing different rounds all catywampus.

Hi, Great Video and Greetings From Austria. My MPR (Same 18" but with the fancy Flag painting + Vortex strike eagle 1-8x24 BDC3 LPVO) loves the GGG M193 55gr from Lithuania. With that ammo i can do about 1 - 1.4" isch groups at a 100 meter. Next best is with S&B .223 55gr about 1.2 - 1.6" isch I also tryed geco .223 DTX 55gr very simmilar with the S&B. AGUILA .223 55gr going 1.4 to 2" isch. SO I wonder why your rifle shoots that high and a bit less accurat than mine. Also a buddy from a frind has the same setup than me besides his is the classic black color one and has the same Results than me. So I recommend cecking the "Muzzle Break" if there are any Burrs / metal shavings left... In my case there was a lot from the Factory left and had to clean them ... 2nd option is the Scope? I like UTG but i only use them on my .22LR stuff ^^ I love the Vortex optic for what i can do with it and it makes it very easy even for longer Disances. Just recently tryed it from 200 up to about 500 meters on full sized USPSA/ IDPA maybe 2/3 size... can't tell for sure. BUT i can say i hit them at least 8 times out of 10 if i did my part. Keep the good content coming. Have a good one. PS: have to try other stuff like 63 / 69 gr or 75 / 77gr in the next Months or so to se what mine like the best.

Interesting results. I've seen quite a few of these tests between 223 and 5.56mm and I'm still not really sure how much accuracy is affected. From what I've seen the difference can be so slight it's hard to measure a real difference at 100 yards, or it can be twice or more the group size at 100 yards. I also wonder if some of the ammo marked 5.56 is loaded to 5.56 pressure or if some of it is loaded to 223 pressures as we do occasionally see lower than standard velocity out of some 5.56 loads. We've all heard it's fine to shoot 223 out of a 5.56 gun but the reverse is not recommended. As a manufacturer making a lower cost line of ammo, (Many manufacturers have a few different apparent quality grades) it may be tempting to have the same 223 load in the boxes labeled 223 and also in the boxes labeled 5.56. Maybe these are the ones that show the least difference when tested because those specific loads are actually the same. This is just me wondering out loud. I don't have any actual answers but still have lots of questions
@ToolsandTargets
@ToolsandTargets 2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. There's very little practical difference. I could probably reshoot this test and get smaller or wider groups at any given moment. I shoot 5.56 and .223 from my AR's based on what is closest to grab when I need to load up. Minute of man is all that really concerns me with these rifles.
@frankbrowning328
@frankbrowning328 2 жыл бұрын
@@ToolsandTargets Agreed. If it's just plinking/practice ammo I don't know that there's enough difference inside 100 yards to bother me. If I had an AR that was specifically built for accuracy out past 250 yards to shoot small critters, then I'd spend the time to find what shot best out of it.

If you were zeroed @ 50 yards it still shouldn't hit that high at 100 yards. Just wondering if it's a combination of the zero and not the ammo you zeroed with. A 16" AR platform zeroed at 50 yards should only be about 1.5" high at 100 yards and dead on at 200 yards. I know you said your test rifle is 18".

Ones got a 24” stainless barrel varmint barrel and the other has a 22” sporter barrel but I will say I use decent scopes. Interesting, I zero mine at 200yds., puts me at around 1.5" high at 100. 5.56 and .223 have same headspace, 5.56 has longer leade in chamber and generally smaller case capacity due to brass thickness, not much difference in reality. Lots of comparison tests out there, some cartridges in .223 like the slight bullet jump, others like to meet the lands. My 1:8 20" loves the 55 and 68 gr., my 1:9 16" opens the group up 1/2" more at 200. Both have stainless bull barrels with bi-pods. Set up for tiny target varmint shooting. No fun to pack around but the accuracy make it worthwhile. They're liar grade small groups at 200. Scoped with 20 zoomies, Ain't gonna say the average cuz unless you see it, you don't believe it.

Ya I zero at 50 yards that’s usually around the first cross of sight then move out to 100 and then adjust to about 1 inch to 1.5 high but the truth is where I live and hunt 150 yards is it and that’s far for river bottoms so much foliage can’t get clear line of sight out to 200 yds . But on the practice range total different story

Generally speaking, 5.56 and .223 performance and dimensions, out of an AR especially, is practically identical. The average person will never see any meaningful accuracy difference. There are quite a few articles that explain the technical differences between the case dimensions and why they are chambered the way they are.
