Dude, real talk? I fucking love The Chipmunks, and I don't care who knows. They're popular as fuck in Mexico, and I grew up with them. They're probably the reason I got into music. A bunch of their covers actually have arguably better arrangements then the originals, no lie. There's even this complete maniac on soundcloud that takes Chipmunk songs and slows them down to make goth/post punk, dark, bass-filled, witchcore type shit. I can't get enough of it. Good vid, Tariq. Might need to make my own Chipmunk video essay one day.

The personal human touches in traditional animation is why I love it too - there is just so much character and love put in to every frame and it is noticeable. It's one of the reasons I was so happy to see Spiderverse which adopted that traditional look. I really hope we get more traditionally animated movies again

Man it feels so nice to hear someone else talk about how poignant the Chipettes mother song is. As a passionate, dedicated, long time member of the AATC fandom (over ten years!), I can say for certain that each and every one of us is absolutely thrilled to see someone so passionate about our beloved film. TCA is so precious to us that we dedicate the entire month of May to celebrating it (it was released on May 22nd 1987!) It's very rare to see people outside the fandom talking about TCA at all aside from a casual "oh, I remember that!". You're right, the AATC franchise is often ridiculed and treated like a joke, and so is its fandom. So for something like this to pop up in our searches, it makes our entire week. I was certainly smiling throughout this entire video. Thank you for this. Thank you for treating the AATC franchise (and its fans) with the dignity and respect it deserves. When TCA Month rolls around again next year, we hope you'll join us in our festivities. If you're interested in seeing more TCA related media, I have a few demo songs and a deleted scene up on my ChipmunkMania channel. I'd link them but youtube would just delete the comment.

Man, I forgot how insanely good-looking the animation was for this movie. I had no idea so many prominent animators worked on it, but it definitely shows. It's crazy to me that it doesn't have a much bigger following just from an animation enthusiast standpoint, but I hardly ever hear it get talked about. Huge shame. I also used to watch this movie all the time as a kid, so much that I instantly recognized the opening music. I still remember my aunt taking me to the theater to see it (yeah, I'm an 80's baby). She didn't tell me what we were going to see, just that it was "a surprise," and when I saw the title The Chipmunks Movie come up I was ecstatic. That tape recorder scene ("David, are you drunk?") still absolutely kills, and even watching the penguin scene in this video made me tear up. It's such an underrated film with some of the most gorgeous animation on par with Disney, at times, and I'm really glad you're giving it the love it deserves.

Thank you for making this wonderful video! It’s so great hearing you talk about how much this film means to you. And I’m so shocked you were able to get someone who animated on the movie and show to guest star in your video! That’s amazing! Passionate chipmunk fan here and I’ve got the answer to your question about the Chipettes and Miss. Miller. Because TCA was in production while the 80s series was still running, the script for it takes place chronologically before the girls moved in with Miss. Miller. They’re still in their old treehouse like seasons 1-3 of the 80s show. Also, Janice was recently interviewed by Saturday Morning Rewind and revealed that Gettin’ Lucky was a song from another scrapped movie production that was gifted to them to use in TCA. That’s why it seems like an original, but it also seems like it wasn’t made for a movie geared toward younger kids.

Wait, where was it confirmed that TCA takes place chronologicaly before the chipettes move in with Miss Miller, because otherwise there's nothing to say this is in that exact same continuity.
@jennamathews750611 ай бұрын
@@prufan The Chipmunk Adventure was being worked on during the mid-seasons of the 80s show. Sure it’s never confirmed that it’s the same continuity, but there’s also nothing that confirms it isn’t. My guess is that Miss. Miller was developed as the babysitter for TCA and then they liked her so much that she wound up incorporated into the 80s series as a mother figure for the Chipettes.

The Dan Haskett stuff transcends this vid past a typical review or even a typical gushing. As someone who grew up with this series, I always just assumed that this series took place during the time period before the girls met Miss Miller, and were still living in their treehouse. The one that they lived in during the episodes like "The Masked Chipmunk". This was probably the first time the girls met her, which led to them coming up with the idea of them living with her in the next season of the show.

It's the one I choose to watch when I'm feeling sick or stressed or just need something comforting to watch. It's like a bowl of animated hot chicken soup. I love it and I love to see it getting the attention it deserves.

Big fan of Alvin and the chipmunks, watched this one specifically with my family not too long ago too. It was really fun to hear your perspective on it and the small details in scenes I wouldn't have noticed like the penguin scenes "imperfections" 10/10

Goddamn Im so glad this movie actually exists and wasn’t some weird dream I had as a kid.. watching this brought back so many memories, that penguin scene used to strike just the right chord in my heart. In general, your channel has unearthed a lot of forgotten movies or tv shows that had a major role in inspiring me as a kid.

Ross & Janice I believe explained the plot hole of the Chipettes & Miss Miller in an interview. I recall the plot hole exists because production on the film started before the episode aired of Miss Miller adopting them. This & also there were constant production issues & the deadline for the film was non-moveable. In this same interview, they later stated, they were basically shocked they managed to get what quality they did get out of this film despite said issues.

I'm born in 07 and I once came across this animation by accident, but since I was mostly brought up on cartoons with this unique old animation style, I can appreciate their beauty and I say that it is one of the best animations I have ever watched. 7:44 In fact, this is a significant inconsistency compared to the "source material", which is the cartoon, but in the movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman" this consistency is maintained. There are also many animation errors in "The Chipmunk Adventure", most notably during the song "Off to See the World", which involves both teams taking and returning the wrong team's dolls, which was most likely due to the fact that this film was made by several studios.

I watched this VHS so much as a kid that I ruined it. I couldn't for the life of me find it online anywhere so I bought a DVD off of ebay a couple years back. Honestly movie still slaps the soundtrack is bomb. Honestly as a musical theater nut I killed that tape by rewinding the songs alone. Specifically boys and girls of rock and roll. It's the beauty in hand drawn animation to not only get to see someone's signature on it but to know how much passion has to go into each scene to get the emotional beats across. I love the chipmunk movies of this time for this exact reason the fluidity and movement of the animation is just top notch and really just gets better the older I get and they more I learn about my favorite art form.

This was one of the BEST movies growing up. I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid, but I know it will still hold up. Hell _Alvin & the Chipmunks_ as a whole still holds up to this day and the newest series on Nickelodeon is proof of that. First time I watched that series, it felt like I went back in time because it was like a continuation of the late 80s early 90s cartoon series and ALL the memories came flowing back.

Ever since I saw your Wolfman video, I just KNEW you'd be able to put into words why I would always rent this movie as a kid. That Theodore scene with the crazy good expressions, how grossly detailed the villians were, and the Chipettes singing to the baby penguin are all scenes I loved as a kid as well. As a kid, I didn't know the nuances of animation and musicality, but I ALWAYS noticed the effort put into this. It goes to show how much love went into this movie, and even if I've never been overly attached to the chipmunks franchise, it and this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

this was my favorite movie as a kid. it was the ONLY movie i wanted to rent at the video store. All the things you're saying are like, my memories exactly! The villains being so gross and ugly, even the dog!!! The scene with the baby penguin BROKE ME. It would make me cry so hard as a kid! But I loved that scene and that song in particular. I re-watched this a couple years ago and was super uncomfy with all the racist shit, obviously, but there is still this incredible sense of nostalgia for the songs and animation. Loved this video, thank you!!

Man, I never noticed just how spectacular the animation in this movie is, but this video definitely made me take notice and see this movie in a whole new light. This movie seriously doesn't get enough love. This film needs to be shown and studied in EVERY animation class as part of the mandatory curriculum.

I adored the loose and fluid character animation in this movie as a kid, too, and will always consider it one of my favorite traditionally animated movies. When I got into the industry in the 90s, I asked every veteran I met what their experience was like working on this film, and most of them described it as being a nightmare. I got the impression that none of them liked the Bags too much, but there wasn't a whole lot that could be done about it, because there was no other work around at the time. I agree with you about recognizing different scenes as being animated by different animators, and which plums were done by the superstars as opposed to new up-and-comers who were often relegated to scenes full of incidentals and where the main characters were maybe off in the distance or on the side for a moment. I remember just being floored when I found out Glen Keane had done a lot of animation on it, for instance. I knew Dan had worked on it after the....eh....stack of dirty drawings went around the studios. It always seemed like an annual thing. Someone would make new copies of copies of copies of Dan's old sketches...I'm guessing you know all about these. Lots of Tiny Toons development art that went along with it. The glorious Haskett collection....ahhh yes!

getting the based opinions and amazing interview out of the way, thanks for making me tear up during my mother. I watched a ton of the 80s/90s cartoon as a kid including this movie and My mother never fails to make me cry. its so bittersweet and soft and the animation is the icing on the cake. I remember the first time seeing this movie and it solidified me studying/ watching more animated movies. Sure I found this version from the live action movie but the nostalgia I feel is real.
