A little trivia: Kristian Bush, the guitarist, almost called off the filming of this video because Jennifer Nettles was crying so hard. He said that it tore him up to see his friend suffering so much. It's a powerful song.

im so glad they made this, its a powerful message to women that they dont have to be tied to a man (or vice versa)who isn't true to him/her. remember, if you have a guy or girl thats cheating WITH you , next thing you know he/she will be cheating ON you. if you're thinking about cheating, all i can tell you is this, (and i coined this) "yes the grass is greener on the other side of the fence , but all it gets you is more yard work".
@lonnieadams78414 жыл бұрын
Kristian Bush said in an interview once that when they recorded this song, he recorded his part separate because he couldn't be there when she did her part. This was written as a reply to Reba's "Whoever's in New England", but it was inspired by Jennifer Nettles best friend who was going through that situation.

Yeah, the first time i saw this was on VH1 at like 6 o'clock in the morning. I think it was early '07 and I had got up to watch some videos.. This was the first thing I saw and I was shook... she was nervous to bring the song to her partner, and he was like, you have to record it. And they did it, got thru it, but when it came to the video... those were authentic tears, real breakdowns... real "I need a moment" situations... after she had broke down three or four times he said they had to stop because it was making him emotional. And this is why I loved the song.

Ah.. That's interesting. I would've liked it better had she kept it in her own perspective. I always disliked this song because from the singers perspective, she's a homewrecker and just as wrong for her actions as the guy she's singing about.

From CMT: Sugarland’s “Stay” is the first of the duo’s chart-topping songs to solely be written by singer Jennifer Nettles. Although she has never lived the storyline of the song, she knew the subject of betrayal is something everyone could relate to, yet she wanted to tell the story from a different viewpoint. The song was written four years ago and inspired by Reba McEntire’s “Whoever’s in New England,” which was written from the perspective of a wife whose husband is cheating on her. Nettles knew countless songs written from that viewpoint but none from the other two people involved. She says most people don’t realize that even the person who is doing the cheating gets hurt as well.

Just met Sushi this evening and have enjoyed her channel immensely. I particularly like her reaction to the music; shows she has heart & soul. Some suggestions: Anything by Patsy Kline, "Grampa" by the Judds, "Almost Goodbye" and "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" by Mark Chestnut. For R&B try "It's All in The Game" by Tommy Edwards, "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" by Merl Carter, "Since I Fell For You" by Lenny Welch, anything by Bill Withers and anything out of MoTown from the 60's and 70's. Heart, particularly their rendition of Led Zepelin's "Starway To Heaven"
