Electric cars are dead, and you can buy one today at below market value, because states with the most electric cars have increased electricity costs by 30% in 2022 alone. Hybrid cars are backlogged until late 2023. If Tesla wants to survive, they need to do a Hybrid.
@aljay2955

I agree. The natural move from ICE vehicles is hybrid. In the next 5 years when the shiny new toy (Tesla) gets more and more competition we'll see if they can survive. They're not reducing vehicle prices by 10-20% because they want to and Elon didn't cash in tens of billions of stock because it was going up. He knows what's coming.

No gas pot car average consumer uses has 150 HP & we R satisfied with that. We are not drag racing from stop light to stop light.(normally) We have to go with the "Traffic Flow" tbh. Meaning a "Lighter" car can be built with higher ground clearance so we can take it off-roading when we want to. Meaning costing "even LESS". Not enough charging infrastructure. Ecstatic with free upgrade to an EV in Orlando (it had 1/4 charge). Researched 2 hours to find one charger 2 resorts away. Sat for an hour in the car to get enough charge to drive the family to dinner. Dropped family off after dinner and went to the charger at 10. It was taken so I limped back home. Barely made it to the charger at midnight and was so relieved to find it available. I walked 20 minutes home. At 5 am, walked 20 minutes to get the car and someone unplugged it to charge their car. Thankful it was back at 1/4 charge - enough to get back to MCO at 6 am and switch to a gas car so we could get back to vacation. Drove without A/C to preserve range. My sister (actively researching electric cars and was having a charging station installed at home) was horrified. We went from can't wait to try it to can't wait to get rid of it in 12 hours. We concluded Hybrid but not electric. Rent an electric car for 2-3 days before buying one just to see if it even works in your area. Can't imagine an electric pickup in a rural area.

Audi nailed the homework. BMW came to their (design) senses. VW should make an e-Sharan (or a more aerodynamic ID.Buzz.Aero). Fisker and Chevy (the cheapest) make most financial sense as a commuting car, at least from this list. Aptera: interesting concept to be further developed. Actually it could also function (optionally) as an electric tricycle :). Long time ago there's been a solar-electric-tricycle carbon fiber concept car that took two such 3 seat daily commuters that could be combined at the back into a 6 seater 4-wheel drive weekend-car.

Efficient is great, and ideal, for people whose top priority is reducing carbon emissions. For the other 98% of the populace, we need cars that appeal to them in order to move the EV trend forward. @@andiman45 Your 2 posts seem vaguely contradictory. In the first, which I replied to, you seem to demand an efficient people mover. In the second, you seem to deride the Prius? Maybe I'm misinterpreting. Maybe your point is that people will drive them regardless of the other things that factor into what people decide to buy cars for? I assure you, for a majority of buyers, they won't. People want style, people want comfort, people want performance, and people are, and always have been, willing to sacrifice some efficiency for it. Sure, there will 100% be a market for cheaper, less flashy, more efficient models; but that's mostly because that's all a lot of people can afford. And as I pointed out in other comments, these companies are trying to recoup some of the enormous R&D investments they are making on EVs, which you don't do on a low margin car. So for now, we'll get mostly high end offerings. That will change over time.

"Imagine an electric that's actually efficient!" Not sure why you said that, because any modern EV is extremely energy efficient compared to any other vehicle--even diesels. So, no matter which EV you drive you're always using much less energy for going the same distance at the same speed, even if you compare it to a small diesel-powered vehicle. That's one of the reasons they're building them.

Too bad you left out the Cadillac Lyriq. Let's go beyond Tesla to include MORE AMERICAN cars !!! I started with Porsches and Audis, but now feel it's time to be American. My Lincoln Continental is a wonderful car and now I have a Lyriq on order. I always want to give American brands the first opportunity to show their stuff. While many foreign cars are "Made in America", the HQ jobs (design, marketing, finance, and much more) remain in foreign nations. Let's give jobs to Americans!

I'm Canadian but I tend to agree with you. Canada has none of its own car companies although we do build a lot of vehicles here. If I lived in the USA I'd certainly want a nice American car if I were able to afford one, nothing wrong with a little patriotism if you're fond of your country and feel that it deserves both your patriotism and your cash!

Is it just me, or did BMW completely get shafted on the reviews? "Hi, it's me. My name is BM..." "Shut up and sit down!" That's kind of what I saw.

10:16 Tesla, POS is not on my list. IDK why Tesla is even in here for Top-10. Ioniq 6 and Genesis EVs will dominate in 2023 in spite of EV credits not being taken. Bring it on, Ioniq - the higher the price, the more we want!!

Hyundai will not build enough for them to dominate the market even if they are 10 times better than Tesla at half the cost.
