Hey guys, back with another Fallout 4 video and today I wanted to go over some of Fallout 4's best consumable food, drink and other healing items. I didn't realize this, but the rate you heal in survival mode is usually 10 times longer than what you would heal in Normal Mode.

Food is very glitchy on survival mode, the longer you play and the more you eat food the greater the chance for the bonuses you get to stay permanently, I'm pretty sure most of survival mode players have this bug without even knowing, check your SPECIAL/carryweight/HP/AP and you'll probably find some wrong values...

That's how i learned, that 21 endurance grants infinite sprint, got over 10k dmg on a knife and got my carry weight up to about 400-500

Scalpaxos my character goes days without eating and then in mid combat stuffs his face with drugs and food and I can get 21 endurance, 21 perception and 20 strength. Base endurance being 8, perception 6 and strength 3, lmao

Same. I was looking for more challenges with my singleplayer games and Survival Mode really tops that in Fallout 4. Once I started playing it on Survival, I refused to play it on any lesser difficulty. (Unless it is a quick and easy playthrough to mop up any missed achievements....but as a main playthrough file...it's Survival or bust.)

@@charleshaskell2056 You make a patty about the size of a hamburger patty only thicker, whose main ingredient is cooked crab meat, then fry it up and either eat it like that or make the into a sandwich. Really tasty. They do tend to be a little pricy. It's probably been 30 years since I had one, since I no longer live on the coast.

One healing tip for survival, is to get Charisma until you can get Local Leader 1. Depositing meat and crafting items at any connected settlement lets you cook and craft at any other connected settlement. (Same is true for weapon/armor/power armor mods)

Yep, I found that out myself the other day. I ate a noodle cup and it said I was properly fed and hydrated. I was like, holy shit, a food that does two in one. Time to stock up and carry a few around with me whenever I head out on a junk run.

So do melons. They're useless to grow or carry around in regular non-survival mode, but in survival they're helpful in the early game and good food for when you're working around your base.

Nuka Grape and other nukas that remove rads are also great for survival. They remove more than a normal radaway (400 to 500 rads vs 300 from the radaway) plus heal, caffeinate and have no side effect (aside from getting a little bit hungry from the caffeine effect).

You DONT need the Far Harbor DLC to craft Glowing blood packs, they are also affected by the Medic perk AND they can be stack consumed to raise your Rad resistance to infinity... The tricky part is getting the Irradiated blood, I been thinking in making a Ghoul Slaughterhouse, but I haven't got the time to mess with Fallout 4 lately :[.

The downfall of noodle cup is that dirty water is bizarrely rare. In effect this means your supply of noodle cup is constrained by your supply of bottles. And the demand for extra purified water to carry will be competing for that same limited supply of bottles.

@@gilgamecha I pick up at least 2 dirty water every time I turn around. I just got back from a trip from Jamaka Plain to Sanctuary while overburdened and turned in 10 dirty water. I started out about 50 pounds over burdened (Dogmeat and Ada already full to the brim) and got to Sanctuary with 1200 pounds total. That's one reason I don't mind walking around the Commonwealth. You won't find me crying about not being able to fast travel.

When I build a Settlement I plant 6 of each produce type. This takes 4 farmers/settlers and produces 24 food. Settlements that start out with farmers already growing a bunch of one or two produce types mess this up a little but I can live with it.

When you listen to all the things that will be stacked against you, like: - Reduced Carry Weight and now even ammo/healing items have a weight. Being Over-encumbered hurts you. - Needing to Eat/Drink/Sleep regularly. - No Fast Travel - Damage from everything (player/enemy/NPC) increased - No enemy markers on your HUD when in combat. - Chems/Healing items making you dehydrated/hungry/tired. - Various illnesses you can contract. - More Legendary Enemy Encounters. - You can only save when you sleep or exit the game via the pause menu. It doesn't sound all that fun. But once I started playing it, it became the only way to play it for me. It makes you actually thing and plan about how you are going to tackle situations. From potential hostile encounters to even just doing simple junk runs, you plan out and approach each task differently than in a normal difficulty.

I never use food items in Fallout 4 because of how radiation works. In Fallout: New Vagas, radiation was still something to watch out for, but you can still eat food without a instant and severe consequence.

I mean it's cute how they try to one-up Obsidian with the "realism" but this system reminds me of how radiation works in the stalker games in which it melts you from the inside out. Still if it bothers anyone take the rank 4 of Ghoulish, make a stockpile of refreshing beverages, or better yet download a mod that can removes radiation on the go. Since this is a fallout related video I wanted to share a discovery I made in Fallout 4. I was messing around with the Wacky Weapons Mod on Xbox One and made a shotgun that fires MIRVs with each shot and that is without mentioning the two stacked two shot legendary effects I added on to the gun and then I proceeded to massacre diamond city to discover that kids were killable with the weapon so does that mean kids have the highest amount of health or damage resistance in the game?

The rad scorpion omelette is on my must-have list for the addiction cure effect, and mutant hound chops because I play a rad build and keep my rads 80%/health 20% which is easier to manage with the little 60/-50 tweak you get from that. Wares Brew too, but 3 raw saps is a pretty tall order.

Hey Puma, working on my chem and food mods atm I started sorting out food which I personally kinda overlooked over time and which probably will start using more often again because they're actually pretty nice. For example, Iguana on a stick has an aweseome HP gain/weight ratio are easily available, wolf ribs have two nifty special effects and moderate healing at a low weight, and mirelurk egg omelette is an even better version of mutant hound chops , is increadibly easy go craft, and both heals and removes RADs. What are your thoughts on some of those items? Which ones do you think are actually pretty much overlooked just because they're not as game-changing (or should I say game-breaking like the refreshing beverage) as others?

There are several Nuka cola variants and mixer recipe's in Nuka World that far surpass anything on this list. the recipe's Nuka Ray and Nuka Rush both restore 999 base HP and Rush restores 40 AP while Ray grants +25 Rad resistance. Nuka Cola Victory restores 840 base HP and doesn't have to be crafted and the two recipe's Nuka Cide and the much easier to craft Nuka Cooler both restore 1200 base HP while having other bonuses. Personally, I think Ice Cold Nuka Cooler is the best healing item in the game as each one restores 1800 base HP while granting +50 max HP, restoring 349 AP and granting plus 20 max AP. All for 1 pound of carry weight and a fairly easy crafting recipe.

Im at food rank 8 right now (stingwing), and i can tell everyone for sure already now what food is the absolute best food you can have on your chr at all times. "Iguana on a stick" - lies at 0,1 weight, not sure about HP but its like 45 or something bad but combined weight to what a (for ex) deathclaw meat (120 hp?) is then you get 450 hp back on that 1 weight, or going from hungry to full (2x iguana) 5 times over. Iguana on a stick, is the absolute best food BUT(!!!!) if you can grab/farm mirelurk eggs, then for sure "Mirelurk cake" is the contender that knocks out everyone else without even trying. No other food has a chance.

@@liamhome1664 on the flipside, you can basically buy all the RB ingredients. get a water farm going, it might be a slow trek without local leader 2, but you can make tons of caps easily. plus just getting tons of rad away/stimpacks in normal play. you don't really have 'easy' access to large amounts of glowing blood.

you can always find ragstags at finch farms the spawn back in about 50 to 60 minutes there is usaly about 4 to 5 rag stages there and theres a pack of boat flys to the south

In Normal Difficulty Aquaboy rank 1 stops the rads from swimming or wading in water and lets you breathe underwater. Rank 2 make you invisible while underwater so you can't be shot by baddies. I can't speak about the Aquaboy effects in Survival Difficulty. @@Commievn

In regards to the mirelurk waterbreathing bit, I'm pretty sure Aquaboy gives you waterbreathing at rank 1. At the same time I've never played survival mode so idk if there's any changes to the perk compared to normal mode

I want to say Aquaboy removes radiation obtained from swimming at Rank 1 and provides water-breathing at Rank 2. And there is only 1 change in Perks with Survival Mode and that is the inclusion of the Adrenalin Perk. It is a natural perk you have at all times. It increases 1 level/point for like every 10 enemies you kill. And each level/point increase to the Adrenalin Perk gives you a slight damage boost meaning the more you kill, the more damage you do. The only draw back is that if you wait enough time, the level/points will start to decrease and if you sleep, it resets the perk completely.

Build a sink or drinking fountain at any settlement and you can fill up all bottles including baby bottles with purified water without any water purifiers. No perk needed

I only build fountains in Home Plate. All other Settlements get at least one pump. Many commenters say the fountain is faster. I don't like having to push the button every time for a sip of water or to fill each bottle. With the pump all I have to do is start it pumping. and I can walk away while it pumps because it goes on working till I turn it off. (Good time to go take a leak or whatever.) I've never tried the sink because I didn't know you could use it for the same purpose.@@billcox8870

Another fact to be considered: Food heals super slow in high difficulties. And they heal x amount per second... PER SOURCE. While bringing more food is temporarly more weight, you will eat them, and if you favour for quick use 3 food/drink/anything that heals in addition to stimpack in battle you can quickly activate 3-4. That will make the heal 3x-4x faster, which can save your life... It's not a big deal if a food heal smaller amount if you use 3-4 anyways. Sometimes i even overeat, knowing by the time it works i get more injuries. When i got mroe then 3 types with me i make sure heavier ones are used regularly. And i like to set them in increasing order like 7. 35hp 8. 40hp 9. 50 hp 0 stimpack Having them on quick bar also will make you use them regularly when only small heal is needed

I know this is kind of a late reply, but dirty water can only be gained via collecting empty bottles (nuka bottles, bourbon bottles, milk bottles, beer bottles, etc.) and filling them from either a water source like a river or the sea, or using a regular water pump/well in a settlement.

In any difficulty mode from Very Easy to Very Hard, Dirty Water can only be obtained via buying it from a merchant/vendor or just finding it scattered about the Commonwealth. But in Survival Mode, you can refill empty bottles (Nuka-Cola Bottles, Empty Milk Bottles, Beer Bottles, Brown/White Bottles, etc.) at just about any water source you come across. Refilling them at a water pump in a settlement will net you Purified Waters but refill them at any lake/puddle/pond/river/etc in the Commonwealth and you will get Dirty Waters. Honestly, once you have a settlement set up with a fair amount of water pumps, the only thing you should be using your empty bottles for would be for collecting Dirty Water. My main base/home is set up at the Red Rocket Truck Stop and combined with the water pumps from there and at Sanctuary, I can easily end up with 20-40 Purified Waters every 2-3 days (in game). And I only end up using about 10 Purified Waters each outing (Maybe a little more if I happen to use Stimpacks or Buffout).

Rad scrubbers, and if you don't like power armor you haven't used this setup. Mr. Boombastic (Explosive Shielding) | Helmet (X-02), Rad Scrubbers (use rads to lock in low hp build but still eat foods, etc), Headlamp | Chest (X-02), Emergency Protocols (Low hp build) and Devil's Inferno for 25% speed and 50% damage reduction, and another 5% speed on top of dealing energy damage to nearby foes and taking damage recharges action points. | Arms (T-60 Tesla Arms), Optimized Bracers (gun bash, or power attacks) | Power Armor Legs (T-60, Vengeance and Honor), 10% of damage reflected back on melee attackers synergizing with devil's inferno, action point refresh speed, with kinetic servos or sprint speed. Penetrating Chinese Grenade Launcher, with ballistic shield.

He is probably playing on Very Easy, hence why everything it going done so quickly. You can tell he isn't playing on Survival Mode because you don't get enemy markers on your compass HUD in Survival Mode. So, playing on Very Easy and combine that with the Fortune Finder and Scrounger perks, you can easily amass a veritable ton of caps/ammo.

I am pretty sure one of the creature cages you can build with the Wasteland Workshop DLC is a Mirelurk cage. You can then basically use the cages to capture/farm Mirelurk. Hell, with enough planning, you can set up an area where when you open the cages, the captured creatures essentially walk out into the line of fire for multiple automatic turrets so you don't even have to waste your ammo. Heck, they even have cages your Deathclaws and Yao Gui, as well as Brahmin, Rad Stags, and a few other creatures that can provide you with useful meats/hides. All you have to do is build and power the cages, wait a day or two (sleep or leave the settlement) and come back to your captured critters. After you kill them, just make sure you have the required items to repair (rebait) the cages and repeat the process. And if you want some added extra defense to your settlements, get the Wasteland Whisperer Perk and build a Beta Wave Emitter. This will allow any animals you capture in said cages to come out pacified. They won't attack the player or any settlers at the settlement and some animals, like Deathclaws, actually increase a settlement's defense status. Just make sure to have plenty of Beta Wave Emitters to cover your settlement you try this at. If the creature gets outta range of the Emitter, then they will become "wild" and hostile. But, it does allow you a means to essentially have something like Deathclaws wandering around your settlements and defending them.

I don't use power armor in Fallout 4, only 76. I like the ballistic weave on Army fatigues and a trilby hat for charisma or battered Fedora for luck. Ballistic weave 5 gives 110 energy and ballistic damage. On top of that you can wear your favorite armor pieces with buffs. You can either go deep pocket for exploring or lead lined for the glowing sea.

If you grind enough Legendary Enemies (which there is a pretty easy way to do such using the Wasteland Workshop DLC and not need console commands or anything) you can find weapons with a Legendary Perk on them for Explosive Rounds/Damage. Look hard and long enough, you can eventually find a Legendary Minigun that has a Legendary Perk for explosive rounds on it...unless you are incredibly lucky when it comes to the RNG...then it might not take too long.

I think you can make a Yao Gui cage in your settlements with the Wasteland Workshop DLC so you can basically farm Yao Gui in your settlements.

Yes, but all that stuff adds up in weight in Survival Mode. Fusion Cores have a decent weight to them given their size and even stimpacks can add up in weight if you have a lot of them. Plus, Stimpacks dehydrate you a fair bit.
