Northwestern Ontario including Thunder Bay has BEAUTIFUL surroundings. Lake Superior is magical.

You have never been to any of the places you mentioned. Ottawa and Thunder Bay have very cold winters and can experience extreme cold. You also forgot snowfall and accumulation. People live in Toronto because they have to for work. I have never heard a fellow Canadian say I want to move to Toronto. Traffic in the GTA is a nightmare.

I can agree on Thunder Bay and Barrie. Thunder Bay though is on the edge of nowhere. If you don't like isolation this is the wrong place. Barrie is between the best of Ontario, and the urban blight. Great skiing. Everything south of Barrie is questionable. Everything North and East of Barrie is quiet and scenic. The GTA west to Hamilton, and east to Oshawa is ok for work, but good luck being able to afford living there. Everything 1 hour's drive from the lake is basically urban sprawl. If you are not already rich, you can't live here. And as all of our immigrants pick the cities, our cities have the least in common with why you want to live in Canada. I don't have a problem with immigrants by the way. But the smart ones live in our more remote communities. Lindsay is a great place. No work here, they sleep here and work in the urban sprawl eh. On the weekend, all the traffic is trying to get here. Lindsay is the support/supply hub for the Kawarthas. Peterborough is the support/supply hub for everything north of it too. Neither is likely ever to get on most lists. But all the places you WANT to see in Ontario, are north of Lindsay and Peterborough. A lousy job in cottage country is more useful than a great job in Toronto. And if you are not married, you can't afford Toronto. Canada is a two income required country to lie in. Housing is our biggest burden.

I just saw a video that said that Thunder Bay is first in the top 5 cities with the most crime in ON ....London is 4th and Windsor is 5th.....just so you know.
