So the list is actually Top Twelve, with the trilogy's installments either tying for first or each film is considered better than its predecessor. Naturally, for Hobbit, they should have followed a precedent from Lucasfilm. Wait until around now to start making it, but first rerelease the LotR trilogy with new special effects. The Middle Earth makers could then distinguish themselves by doing it again. Twenty years from now, rerelease the Hobbit with new special effects, then adapt a prequel trilogy to it out of Silmarillion.

Sadly I have to agree. There's so many reasons why it was so amazing. The source material. The casting. The music. All the artists who were involved. The source material alone one would be hard pressed to find anything near the depth and calibre of Tolkien. Maybe Frank Herbert's Dune but that's more sci-fi.

One of the only few times I actually teared up when watching a film happened at the end of the Lord of the Rings, not once, but twice. @@DerMoerpler Thanks for the recommendation, but I've actually been watching CineFix for years. It's just that fantasy and scifi are two huge genres (themes, as I'd like to call them) that I've gone into the trouble and analyze extensively, personally and professionally, so any time I watch someone else do something similar, I feel like I have to give my respects :) On the other hand though, if I want to be picky, these lists seem like a lost opportunity, as they're not really top-10s, but top-1 recommendation for 10 different sub-themes, so it doesn't work as a countdown. I feel like they could really do much more if they were to make 10 top-10 lists instead of just 1.

I was bursting at the seams to shout out Heavenly Creatures for the first category, but waited to see if it would land elsewhere in the video. Making this list was a monumental task, so anyone would be forgiven for leaving out a few examples. Still, I was also pretty surprised Charlie and the Chocolate Factory didn’t make it into the urban fantasy. Anyhow, as always your video has stoked the fire of cinema love again. Thanks!

For anyone who haven't seen Pathala Bhairavi (1951), Mayabazar (1957) & Baahubali 1&2 (2015,2017) these are Great Telugu Films which are made in India (Not Bollywood). If you want to know other fantastic fantasies from Telugu Cinema here are 4 of them: 1. Eega - Revenge Fantasy (2012) 2. Arundhati - Fantasy Horror (2009) 3. Jamba Lakidi Pamba - Fantasy Comedy (1992) 4. Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari - Romantic Fantasy (1990). Note - There's much more in Indian Cinema than Bollywood Musicals same as there's much more in American Cinema than Superhero Movies and Franchises.

I remember watching LOTR for the first time in college (because I was too young to see it when it first came out) with a group of friends. We'd initially intended to just watch Fellowship, but were so drawn into the world we ended up binging all three movies in one sitting-- from 3pm to roughly 2am the next morning. It's still one of my favorite memories from that period of my life.

I'll add the caveat that Lord of the Rings was intended by Tolkien to be one story. He wrote it all as one book, but due to the cost of paper at the time, he had to split it into three parts. So you could technically call the Lord of the Rings "Trilogy" one movie split into three parts, just like the books are actually one novel split into three parts. At least, that's how Tolkien intended it.

LotR is simply perfect. The locations, the cast, the music, the art, the detail in costumes and weapons, the dedication. I doubt we'd see the trilogy in the same way if they hadn't all been shot back-to-back, or if the cast hadn't been so dedicated to the source material (things like Sir Ian McKellen reminding Sean Astin to grab Frodo's hand when he wakes up in Rivendell because that's what Tolkien described in the book). If they had done Gollum any differently, if they had changed it from the books any more, if it had different composers or directors for each film, it wouldn't be the amazing thing it is today. What REALLY bums me out about LotR and how much it's loved is how it just disappeared. Harry Potter's been over for a full decade now, but I still see HP themed shit everywhere. You don't see any LotR themed stuff anymore.
