Come on what about dimebag darrell and his dean ml??? You also need to show some love and do a bassist top list.
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
Dimebag is a recurring theme in a miss. I didn’t look at many of the thrash and metal guys (Mustaine, Scott Ian, Dimebag, sommany death metal dudes) if it makes you feel any better both of my brothers in law have disowned me over dimebag not being on the list!

Here are the "unique" or even obscure models that immediately make me think of a certain player and I believe make others think of these players too: *Joan Jett and the Melody Maker *Johnny Winter and the Firebird *Albert King and the Gibson Flying V

I love your channel Nick, and you appear to be a damn nice guy, so please don't take this as an insult; however the fact that there isn't a single female artist--even if just in any of the honorable mentions--is telling of how guitarists have to stop thinking of the industry just in terms of men. Raiitt, Tharpe, St.Vincent, Strauss, Hale, Hynde, Jett, etc. I mean, a number of these incredible guitarists have their own signature guitars.
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
Massive miss my friend. Joan Jett is written on a napkin somewhere but didn’t make it into the spreadsheet. Bonnie should have at least made the honorable mention. St Vincent is very intriguing... where she is now vs a few years from now will be super interesting. I love Nita! I think I’m leaning towards doing a makeup video with top female combos and where they should have been in the big list.
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Joan Jett with her melody maker, Bonnie Raitt's blue strat with a rosewood fretboard, and St Vincent's sig (but in a few years when she's played it more). On the other hand my favorite female guitarist, Nancy Wilson, has played so many different guitars over the years it's impossible to associate her with anything (except maybe the blue tele she wrote a song about, but that's only for HARDCORE fans 😊).
@oldmanzen66825 жыл бұрын
@@davidozab2753 I was going to mention Wilson, but assumed it would be too easy to exclude her from the list due to her lack of "guitar monogamy" as Nick puts it.
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
Also the Ovation with the artsy soundholes she played in the 70s, but that was so long ago and she's played so many others since.
@jamalabdul20095 жыл бұрын
As a Hendrix fanatic, I will always put him on top of most lists.😂😂😂😂 For the most part your list is far, however I honestly would have Brian May #1 and Slash a bit further down on the list. Just my opinion but what the hell, you took the time to analyze this not me so really there is no “right” answer!!! Sorry to miss the premier but I was watching my 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros defeat the lowly Tampa Bay Rays!! Nick you rock!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾

Go Astros! I’m a Red Sox fan but when my team is out I root for everyone but the Yankees!!! I wanted May to win!
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
I thought Jimi #1 too because of the upside-down strat, but the Red Special is as unique as a guitar gets. Slash is overrated (not really, just seeing if I can bait the guy who won't stop arguing about Slash to comment here too 😉)
@mattg30195 жыл бұрын
Here's another honorable mention, he even has his own signature Telecaster, the one and only Wilko Johnson. May not be culturally relevant but one unique playing style and surely influenced a lot of British punks and pub rock guitarists.

The polarity of greenies neck pickup is reversed, which gives a stratty out of phase tone in the middle position.

Your guitar pics don't match what your talking about, they are out by one guitar. I.E. when you were talking about Billy Gibbons you were showing the Greeny ' Moore, 59 Standard.
@mattg30195 жыл бұрын
Why do you show Greeny Moore when talking about Pearly Gates. Also Greeny Moore is now owned by Kirk Hammet who should have made the list because he's keeping that guitar alive and in the public view.
@tophatness56745 жыл бұрын
What about Dimebag? He is forever synonymous with the ML body shape. I would say he easy belongs in the top 5. A bunch a dudes playing Les Pauls? There are only a few that immediately connects to the player in your head. Hundreds(thousands) of guitar players are seen with LP's and strat' s. But if you look at even a silhouette of a Dean ML, there is only one person that comes to mind.
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
Huge miss from me. Honestly I missed the dimebag wave and he just slipped my mind. My brothers in law love him though and he was huge for both of them. They’ve given me a ton of crap too!
@andrewkaetz19675 жыл бұрын
What in the actual Hell??? HOW did Lindsey Buckingham NOT even get considered??? He ditched the Les Paul and Strat and Ovation combo 40 freakin' years ago for the Rick Turner Model 1 which he has played for the majority of his hits as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac. Truly a missed opportunity there.
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
I have a complete Lindsey Buckingham block. It may be a generational thing (I just missed his heyday being born in ‘76) or a play style (or intimidation by his play style) thing. That dude can play in ways that my brain doesn’t even comprehend.

I still see him with that white LP, but I bought FM and Rumours like everyone else and then kind of forgot about them. Plus I was in elementary school at the time 😄

I don't agree with whatever rating you gave to being relevant to half the people in the video. Hendrix.. great example of a great guitarist that's imo not relevant today. I consider being relevant influencing players right now and let's be real it's not happening. I enjoyed the video thou good effort. Oh and no Dimebag mention that one hurt :)
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
Yeah in any list like this I’m going to miss some people. Dimebag is a bummer to miss. And of course the system is flawed, I did it! Lol but I had to get somewhere with it and this is where we ended up.
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
You're scoring system is flawed. Brian May is clearly #1.
@NickintheStates5 жыл бұрын
I tried! I honestly started this with the intent of him winning. I agree... the system must be flawed!
@michaelcosta72355 жыл бұрын
No, it is clearly Slash. My coworkers 4 year old daughter, who doesn't play guitar or even listen to rock, knows who Slash is. I promise you she has no idea who Brian May is.
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
It's iconic guitar/guitarist combos. Yes, Slash is an iconic LP player, and certainly the most so among active guitarists. But there are many others. Brian May has the only authentic Red Special, and is the only guitarist associated with it and vice versa. It is the definitive guitar/guitarist duo.
@michaelcosta72355 жыл бұрын
@@davidozab2753 when little kids even recognize you immediately 32 years later, you are more iconic then a guitarist that isn't.
@davidozab27535 жыл бұрын
Guitar/guitarist COMBO. If I were picking iconic guitarists, Slash would be in the top five easily while May wouldn't make the top ten.
