You'd think when they went to make that movie and were writing the script, someone would've said "this approach completely failed Josie and the pussycats" and if they didn't listen, then tell them to watch it. It was so bad. They pretty much did the same to Jem and The Holograms and it failed for the exact same reasons-they stripped it of most of it's elements. To be fair, Johnny Depp is a phenomenal actor, when he's used right. In situations like that, you have to question the director rather than the actor. And Donnie Brasco is an amazing film, wouldn't say it's a cult classic at all. Ninth Gate would be a cult classic. The problem is that under the wrong director, they tend to try and turn Depp into another Jack Sparrow... Look at what happened with Alice in Wonderland... He could easily have played him as a much more sinister character without coming off as goofy. Same with Willie Wonka.
@salud74327 жыл бұрын
Grigeral totaly agree with you. A darker version of the Mad Hatter would have been great. Even with that Vampire film...i rly forgett the Name...a darker tone instead of goofyness. Imho Depp makes worse movies a bit better and saves them from absolute desaster most of the Time. Depp is the David Bowie of Hollywood. He gives every roll another unique face and stays still recognizable.

There's always that one big surprise lurking in these lists, and on this one, it's Madonna remaking Swept Away. You'd have to snort roughly half a mountain of coke to greenlight that. I mean that's an elevator pitch where they stop the elevator and make you get off and don't let you on any more elevators. Like hey let's remake Deliverance with Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider. Ooh how about a concept album, Bieber sings Dylan. Or why not a Broadway musical adaptation of Schindler's List. Oh I've got this whacky sitcom concept, it's called The Human Centipede, you'll love it.

The live action Jem and the Holograms movie made me feel AWFUL for Jem fans. I only saw the cartoon a few times in passing, but after the first trailer, I knew that it was going to be a disaster. I also have no respect for the director for he is a dishonest sleazeball. This guy had asked fans to send in videos on why they loved the source material, promising fans that if they win, they'll be in the movie. Just not in the way fans expected. No, the asshole manipulated the footage fans sent, edited the videos of fans talking about how much the cartoon and character meant to them and ruined it by making it seem like they were talking about the movie version of Jem instead! Hell, it was obvious what the fans were talking about as they were either cosplaying as the character or wearing t-shirts of the show. Hell, one video had the show playing in the background and they didn't even bother editing it out! Nostalgia Critic in his review of the film told people to imagine if they did that in Phantom Menace. Hell, imagine if they did that in Last Airbender or DragonBall Evolution! Those three movies insulted their fanbases, but Jem and the Holograms? It not only insulted the Jem fanbase, but it slapped them in the face and spat on it for good measure! The asshole director even had the audacity to get angry about the backlash he received from Jem fans and called them entitled and assholes as if he did nothing wrong! I feel sorry for Jem fans because I know what it's like to have a movie shit on something you loved watching growing up. This should not have happened to you and I'm sorry it did.
@zerosysko7 жыл бұрын
Oh goodness, that's horrible. I was about to say that the Last Airbender was the most disappointing adaptation (Dragonball was bad, but I think everyone knew a live action Hollywood version was a bad idea to start with), but that really does take the cake.

***** Even I, who watched few episodes in passing on what used to be The Hub, knew who Synergy was and how she worked, who each member of both the Holograms AND Misfits were, who Rio was, almost everything! I knew more than he did! So hearing and seeing what happened in the movie really disappointed and disgusted me, and I'm not even a fan. The show came off as a really dated piece of the 80's to me. But even then I understood and respected that there are people who found a certain charm to the series that I could not and enjoy the series for what it is and meant to them. So for some arrogant asshole to come and shit on that then cry foul when fans lash out in righteous anger is just disgraceful! And people wonder why Ghostbusters fans hate Paul Feig so much?!
@Devilsblight867 жыл бұрын
***** He was the one who directed Never Say Never?! Well, after looking him up, he was also the asshat who made that awful G.I. Joe sequel that made a better cartoon! (Seriously G.I. Joe fans, compare G.I. Joe: Retaliation and G.I. Joe: Renegades. Renegades came out before Retaliation, but had a much better premise and action than that movie.) What made them decide that he was the right choice to make a movie about a 80's Glam Rock girl band with a computer that can change their appearance to anything they want through ear rings that the band's leader wears (being more efficient than Google Glass before Google Glass or Google even existed), when he couldn't even get a movie about the Real American Heroes who fight a terrorist group named after a deadly snake right?! And that came after the disaster that was Rise of Cobra! Hell, his only notable credit was that he made Bieber more famous, and that's not exactly a good thing.

These movies did worse than "Norbit" & "Dude, where's my car". WOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!
@Charlesb886 жыл бұрын
It not hard for any film to do "worse" than"Norbit" & "Dude, where's my car?" because both of the films where successful at the box office, even if not critically. "Norbit" made over 2 1/2 times sits budget worldwide (almost $160 mil.), despite its critical drubbing and "Dude Where's my Car?" made $73 Mil. worldwide on a $16 budget (4 1/2 times it's budget) and has a cult following, even though critics hated it at the time. So it's safe to say that all the movies in this video did way way worse then both "Norbit" & "Dude, where's my car?".. There just seems to be a lot of people who've either seen Norbit and hated it or who've never seen it but have heard that its a god awful film and as a result wrongly assume it must have bombed at the box office. The same is true with "Dude Where's my Car?", to a somewhat lesser degree though. Humans are not always great at figuring out just what many of movie going public is to want to go so see at the box office and tend to overestimate how many other movie goers share their critical view of a film (or agree with the critics). There is a reason the Chipmunk live action films or all the transformer sequels have been big box office successes despite being critical panned, as they had key elements that appealed to their target audience and overcame their shortcomings.

Cari It depends on the theatre and/or theatre chain as to how long a movie is keep on, even on a smaller screen, and some smaller theaters (i.e. fewer screens) will pull it faster then larger multiplexes. As to using a film nationally, with that happens with very few movies these days with all the large multiplexes around meaning they rarely have the need to do so, so long as some theaters are willing to keep them running, even if just on a small screen. Movies getting pulled nationally by the distributor have tended to be films that generated so much controversy of a nature that it’s original distributer didn’t want to be associated with the film anymore (example: Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)) or due to other legal issues such as “right’s issue”, that crops up only after the film is in theaters. So films on this top ten list are really just films that a majority of theaters/multiplexes pulled the film from all their screens all together in a much shorter period of time then usual.

Toby Kebbell should be in that list. He's amazing and deserves way better than the crappy films he's been in.

Blackhat was terrible. Thor pretends he's a hacker who just says fuck it and beats people up because, you know, all hackers are gorgeous and amazing fighters.
