My personal favorite Oscar winning announcement of all time has got to be when Anne Bancroft announced Sidney Poitier as the winner. It’s so memorable to me because she was overjoyed when he won and she gave him a huge hug on stage, which was during the 1960’s! It was controversial to see a white woman physically embracing a black man at the time, but Anne did not care at all! She was in the right side of history and that moment has been immortalized on film!
@oscarman425 ай бұрын
While some don't agree with the win, I found it very moving when Yuh-Jung Youn "signed" the name that was in the envelope, signaling to the audience who it was. But the best part (for me) is when they show the nominee/winner reactions (I always go back to see each one individually). Most people don't "get" us Oscar "savants!"
@queencallipygos5 ай бұрын
The best bit about her signing the name - during the acceptance speech for her own win, she gently teased everyone for consistently mispronouncing her name. And then when she was presenting, she opened by reminding people about that and then said that now the shoe was on the other foot, because now SHE had to struggle with pronouncing THEIR names. But it clearly looks like she did her homework - because not only did she say Troy Kotsur's name right, she made a point of "pronouncing" it in BOTH languages.

I'm a BIG OSCAR FAN since my teens so I learned that through the years there are reasons why some actors/actresses are given the OSARS. One in particular was due to Elizabeth Taylor being hospitalized and despite her private live complications, she was given the Oscar for "Butterfield 8" in the 1960s. I did "LOVE" Alberto, an Italian actor whose performance was outstanding but mesmerizing due to the movie in Italian with subs. I know Italian so I could follow it. However, the ending of this movie shocked me because despite Alberto's funny antics THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE SCENES to keep his son smiling throughout his detention due to being Jewish, Alberto provides suspense until the end which is why I Love, the movie, "LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL."

I think she's really happy that a fellow Italian won and you can tell by the reaction from Roberto that he's over the moon to be receiving it from her being a legendary Italian actress. The mutual appreciation for 2 people from the same country shows when they hug on stage and watching Sophias face whilst he's saying his speech. I think it's a genuine excited moment between the 2 of them. Roberto was hilarious

I love Marlee Matlin presenting Best Actor in 1988. It wasn’t her announcing the winner, it was her naming the nominees. When she got to Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam, she said, “Robin Williams in Good Mooooooooorning Vietnaaaaammm!” -just like he did in the movie. Nobody had ever heard her voice before, and the fact that she was deaf and able to imitate his tone of voice so well, gave Robin Williams a huge smile and he applauded her.

Ricky Gervais was right when he said at the Golden Globes (paraphrasing here) to thank your mom and dad, thank your agent and your God, and then get the f*** off the stage!! I’m so sick of celebrities using their acceptance speech to scold everyone who doesn’t share their opinion on whatever subject, or to insult people with political views different to theirs. They have every right to have their own opinions, but the tone to express them is during the talk show circuit after they’ve won, on their social media, or literally any other place besides an event where they’ve been given an award for playing pretend (no matter how good they are at doing it)!
