That line wasnt in the script. That is why Cleavon Little's response is so pure. But that was not unusual for Mel Brooks to sometimes leave certain lines in even if they werent in the script.

That's because, apparently, according to some sources, Gene Wilder ad-libbed that line--so Little wasn't expecting it. That's why the laugh is so genuine.

@@davemathews7890 OH NO!! BS (uh .... Blazing Saddles, not BS like you might think, LOL) was the signature film of Mel Brooks' career. The other two were excellent, but BS is known WORLDWIDE as a contender for the funniest comedy ever. I am a HUGE Mel Brooks fan and always went to his movies whenever they came out. This is the one that others talked about where people came out of the theatre, walked around to the end of the line at the box office to get in line to see it again. I saw YF and the Producers and laughed, but, when they were over, I went home. I did go and see The Producers when it came to the "cheap", one dollar theatre after leaving the "big" theatre. Nothing like Blazing Saddles. This was before the "multi-plex" theatres of today so it was only on one screen in the medium sized city I lived in. I know it ran for several weeks before finally leaving.
@davemathews7890 Жыл бұрын
@@marmac2768 I've always found BS wildly uneven, with long stretches of exposition and little comedy. And I love Madejine Kahn, but thought she was wasted in this movie. But I'll admit that it has some great belly laughs, as when Mongo sucker punches the horse. Everyone has a different idea of funny, so I respect your opinion.I personally have seen "The Producers" over a dozen times and always fall down laughing when Ulla starts go-go dancing when Max tells her to go to work. The remake of The Producers was pretty awful despite having Nathan Lane in it.

Mr. Stise you are correct, getting a top 10 from this movie is very difficult. What I thought was great is that "everyone" got picked on in this movie. When I saw this movie in the 70s, in the theater, all races were present, and all were laughing with tears. No one was offended and at the end, as we all left together, all were still laughing and repeating some of the scenes. I saw there that good comedy and laughter can bring us together and transcend all races, and also "bind" us together. Good job and effort on your Top 10 list.

The second last scene where the Waco Kid is talking to the sherrif saying these people are common people, people of the land and you can tell when he says “you know, morons” that part was not in the script but in typical Mel Brooks style was left in because it gave off a laugh. I would also have put in the part where the citizens of Rock Ridge are about to leave and the Sheriff asks for 24 hours to come up with a plan. They refuse and he says “You’d do it for Randolph Scott” and then the chorus rings out.

WOW! This ha been out there awhile. You are right Mark. It is hard to find a pure top 10. I was looking for a scene in particular. And you delivered. The Alex Karris scene knocking out that horse. You made it #1. Thanks for the top ten.

The funniest scene was when Cleavon Little comes to town and the town is gathered together to welcome him and once again Mel Brooks genius shines. The lookout person sees the sheriff/Cleavon Little coming and he realizes that the sheriff is black. Then he tries to tell the townsfolk that the sheriff is a p.o.c. except the lookout person uses a 2023 banned taboo word. Every time he says said word the welcome bell rings. It is a shame that we have become so ridiculously politically correct in that we can’t laugh at ridiculous humor

That’s the best scene in the whole movie!! And they didn’t show the part where the black guy sneaks into the KKK and says “where all the white women at” lmao

There is no top ten for this movie. Some rated this movie as the funniest ever, and I have not seen every comedy, but it is the funniest I have ever seen and given the time period it came out in, the best. Thank you Mel Brooks.

Guilford, Connecticut in 1974 was not exactly a main center of Jewish life. When the Indian chief started speaking Yiddish ("Schwartzers!"), my parents were the only ones in the theater laughing.

The one you missed was the one where the old drunk (Gabby) was standing on the roof watching for the new sheriff, when he tried to let them know, that the new sheriff is a__________ (twice), and both times he was interrupted by the church bell.

When the Gabby, the bearded man with periscope, calls out "The Sherif is a Ni-.....!!!" but the church bell drowns out his calling . And when Lily von Schtup exclaims "It's True... It's TRUE !!!!"

What would your Top 10 be?
@Schrimpieman2 жыл бұрын
@@ChattingwithMarkStise Okay: The following are my "Top Nine" favorites, not in any particular order. Number "10" will be handled separate. . For sheer comical value (6 scenes): Quicksand! Taggart orders a couple of ni- instead of horses to survey & gets what he deserves with shovel to the head. Indians: "Laaaasss Hiiiimmmm Gehhhhn!" Dey Darker Dan Us! It's True... It's TRUE !!! Lili Von Shtupp receives her ultimate desire. The Campfire Beans and Farts. Toll Plaza & Dimes (and my favorite of the slapsticks:) Gabby Johnson on rooftop announcing "The Sheriff is a Ni-..." but the church bell overlays his shouting. . The next three are my favorite because I'd like to think I've matured over the past few decades and appreciate the movie more than just face value. I first saw BlazSaddles when I was a youngster; now I'm 54 yrs....I've watched it over a dozen times & never get bored. . There's 3 scenes to which Bart and Waco Kid bond thier friendship: 1.) When they first meet, play chess, and share history 2.) Kid comforts Bart: "...people of the land, you know... Morons!" 3.) Kid uses his lightening draw reflex to shoot guns out of the posse's hands These three solidify their partnership and demonstrate that racism is unfounded. . I'll handle #10 on separate entry.
@Schrimpieman2 жыл бұрын
@@ChattingwithMarkStise Which brings me to the tenth scene, and one which is in my opinion most ironically symbolic: Bible being shot during Bart's inauguration. One would think having the Holy Book destroyed would spark at least a gasp of breath from the deeply religious townsfolk. Whether the script sequence was on purpose by omitting any crowd reaction, only the producers would know. I haven't seen any commentary on the internet about this specific scene either. . Why (you might ask) is this on my "Tens" list? I'm agnostic & believe the Bible is fictional and religion is a farce. I oppose violence (having the book blown to smithereens); I'm a "Live & Let Live" kind of guy. However, there's a lot to unpack in this short scene. Instead of a townsperson yelling at Rev. Johnson in protest, someone took the other extreme & shoots the Book in his hand. One would expect Rev. Johnson to at least say "May God be with you...have mercy on your soul..." Instead, he abandons Bart by exclaiming "...you're on your own..." That choice of wording discredits Rev. immediately from being a Holy Man. Who was responsible for pulling the trigger and why didn't the townspeople turn on the gunman? Finally, listen to Rev's dialogue just previous to Bible being destroyed. Blowing the Bible symbolically means the words of the Good Book don't mean crap.. ...Sorry, ya'll. It was satisfying watching the Book be destroyed, and observing Rev. Johnson's hypocrisy...as well as the crowd overall. That religion stuff is just all for show, especially while in church. I could type a short essay, but I don't want to make the audience hate me more than they do already.

Why the background music? The pensive mood of the background music contradicts the bright mood of Blazing Saddles. It doesn't need any background music at all.
