JacobYoGod GamingRocks no I've played a lot of pokemon( all of them gen 5 and below) I was just commenting on how the speed runners of pokemon, a game with a comparatively happy setting, has the more upset speed runners than gta. His rage is completely justified, and also hilarious.

Twisted Will Pokemon have IVs EVs and natures which determine their stats. Assuming every possible IV combination has a equal chance (1/31) that is a 1/186 of getting perfect ivs then the nature which is 1/26 / 1/13 (Mild or rash would work in this speed-run but speedrunners probably calced to best nature so we're going with 1/26) I was taught that to multiply percentages you multiply both first numbers and both last number (So in this case 1X1 and 186/26) which would give us a 1/4836 chance of a perfect starter pokemon (This is of course with the assumption every IV and nature is as likely as all the others). (Evs are drafted by the speedrunners and are usually not a problem) (I have some other comments which are 1/152 instead of 186 my bad 31X 6 is 186 but those 152 calcs are still insane)

That's actually not how probabilities work. 6 Stats. Each has 31 possible Values. You have a 1/31 of getting a single perfect IV assuming a uniform distribution. The change of getting 2 IV's perfect, assuming they're independent, is 1/31 * 1/31 or, 1/961. Thus, a perfect 6 IV's, not even accounting for a good nature, is (1/31)^6, insanely small. Furthermore, the perfect nature multiplied on top of this is getting you right up there with winning a small lottery. (add in shiny and it will get even more nuts) I think your confusion came in that you took 1/31 * 1/6. That would be the change of a single 1/31 event, followed by a single 1/6 event. We want 6 unique, 1/31 events. And the 1/13 or 1/26 also on top of that.

No one really plays a run and completes it first try, Even the small 10-20 minutes runs you see, the people doing them have most likely been doing it over and over for multiple hours. still have a chance to encounter a level 7 kakuna or metapod, or a level 9 pidgeotto that can kill your run. lvl 9 pidgeotto = the worst possible RNG you can get as the speed stat for it out paces your pokemon, which results in a 10% chance escape rate if your starter is either squirtle or bulbasaur.

i just want to put the math out there because some of these comments are really absurd in regards to the caterpie clip based on catch rate formula and the fact that caterpie's catch rate is 255, we get the following (this is based on approximations using the fact that a level 3 caterpie would have about 16 health and assuming that in the video is it at exactly 75%). The catch rate formula (at least, the relevant variables in the situation) involves the following: ((3 * Max HP - 2 * Current HP) * Catch Rate)/ (3 * Max HP). So we get the following: ((48-24)* 255 * 1)/48, which gives us 127.5. Following that, the probability to capture a pokemon is calculated by the previous formula divided by 255, which results in the equation 127.5/255 = 0.5, or a 50% chance of capturing. Keep in mind this is me probably overestimating the HP% here; I'm pretty sure that caterpie is lower than 75% in the clip which raises that chance to about 57% if i'm even 1 HP off (also if I miscalculated the total HP count the % shouldn't be too off either because ((3 * Max HP - 2 * Current HP))/ (3 * Max HP) is a formula that will always be relative to the max HP of the pokemon) In a speedrun, you do not want to waste more time than what is necessary, and a 50% chance isn't too large of a gamble to use even two pokeballs on, so using that extra turn to attack would have resulted in even more timeloss. the chances of having all five pokeballs fail in a row is a 1/32 (or 3.1%) chance, which is very much attainable, but very frustrating to have to deal with.

Lol Dear Jezus Christ. It actually is a kind of lag, it's called 'dropped frames' and is when the CPU of the streamers computer can't handle the amount of frames per second it needs to send out so the audio keeps playing while the video freezes up from time to time. A bad internet conection can also be the cause of frames beeing dropped, i think cheese had his quality balance to high because once the action started the quality just got fucking ugly while the CPU is still trying to keep the quality nice and smooth it freezes up. (or the recorded video was just fucking recorded with a potato) And this, ofcourse is called Lag. Its called lag in video, and called lag in online. It actually has alot to do with graphics. So don't go saying people dont understand the definition of words and their terms while you yourself dont even know them

Well, that's only 10 min into the game and at that point I think it is better to try to save the time spent on attacking and try to get it with the first ball. The weird thing is that the runner gets so mad. He only lost the run at 10 minutes. Caterpie at that health has maybe a 1/2 chance to be caught, so chance of missing it 4 times is around 1/16. So not terribly unlucky, I can't even see how it got to this video as the stakes were not that high and odds not that small.
