100% disagree. Should have been a quick cameo like Schwartz or Holzman, their extended cameo, references to their previous portrayal of the characters, and meeting and literal caressing of Ariana and Cynthia took me completely out of the movie. My suspension of disbelief completely shattered in that scene, which is really sad, because I love the stage version of One Short Day. There is not a single world in which Idina should have done the Defying Gravity climax.

I won’t lie, I loved this movie. But there is a change I didn’t agree with: Boq’s last name. In both the book and musical, it is a tragic surprise who Boq becomes, that builds up over the course of the story. And considering Boq was originally a separate character in the original Baum books, it works as a surprise. Honestly if they had just gave Fiyerio and Boq more scenes showing their friendship, it would actually lined up better for Part 2.

From the minute that downbeat of the Overture hit to the end, I was bawling, So awesome in the way they expanded a lot of things plus taking bits from the book. Loved hearing all the Wizard of Oz easter eggs. They did it so well!!! There was applause after every song. Now I cannot wait to get my ticket to see the film again, going for ROUND 6 to see it again on Broadway!!! Kristin and Idina's cameo...... goosebumps!!! The Poppy spell on the classroom was really cool. So different vs. what people know from the stage version. In the stage show, "Elphaba" casts a full spell that causes all the students and everyone in the classroom to have Seizures in saving the Lion Cub's life.

I hope they plan to go the extra mile and cover the rest of the story. Prequel: The real story of the wizard arriving in Oz and not that 2013 film… When the sentient animals still roam in abundance and about the drought Alphaba mentioned. Also hints or actual encounter with the Nome king when he harvest the emeralds for he’s city. Dorothy Remake of her tale. With added perspective of what we know in Wicked. I don’t know much of the “Witch of the East. But that’s where Munchkin land is. Is it another propaganda or an actual different person? All I know is she got killed when Dorothy arrives and wears possibly Nessa’s power imbued slippers (silver to ruby) Either the witch took the slippers in defiance as her own or that’s actually Nessa. Portrayed as a witch to make Alphaba’s family suffer. Makes a more touching scene for her to want the slippers back. Can imagine their encounter. She’s not actually threatening Dorothy or blaming her for the accident. Return to Oz sequel: The invasion of the Nome King. With the wizard overthrown. The king reclaim the emeralds that the wizard stolen from his land. Is the wizard still in Oz exiled? Will Dorothy (bit older and more mature) get the chance to meet the real Alphaba. Will the scarecrow still be stone or went to stay with Alphaba after the Emerald City is in ruins. 🙇🏻♂️

The political salience of the narrative is so heartbreaking. I cried in the theatre thinking of the people that the country I live in is helping to murder en masse in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran… and anyone who speaks up against this can lose their jobs, is painted as an antisemite (even when they are Jewish)… it’s so depressing that this is the world we live in. I saw someone on instagram relating elphaba to Kamala Harris and even Jon Chu said something like that in an interview and I was so disgusted. This is the same woman who said “I’m speaking” over Palestinian activists and then made it a branded catch-phrase. Americans need to wake up and realize that BOTH parties are “the wizard.”

I didn't get the 'bang' with her so softly saying the "nobody in all of Oz", she just sounds so forbidding. But I just LOVED the full dance numbers. Another detail that I don't know how many people notice but it has been YEARS since the title 'unrolls' across the screen at the beginning of the show - as with the "To Be Continued" at the end. It was really the norm for so many years with the musicals so it was a nice touch.

I am totally psyched to see this movie. I loved the musical. And I absolutely HATED The Wizard of Oz, because of the ending. I had to remind myself that Wicked is referencing the original Wizard of Oz books, NOT the movie. In the book, Oz was real. In the Judy Garland movie, it was all a dream/something she imagined in while knocked out from the tornado. Wicked the musical/this movie doesn't make sense in the context of the Judy Garland movie, so you really have to forget it exists.

it's never confirmed it was just a dream. it's left like that because how else is dorothy supposed to explain any of that? easy, make her think it was a dream. we dont know how time works between kansas and Oz so maybe the shoes brought her but only an hour or so had passed in kansas. You're assuming it was a dream, but it's definitely not a fact. could be true, might not be true.
