One of the things that was characteristic of Dragons' Den during Theo's early years was that he would repeatedly row in behind whatever Peter said and the first clip here's a classic example. Theo wouldn't have kicked off about the percentages unless Peter had already done the same.

Deborah did not play fair there. She offered all the money for 20% but Richard misunderstood and thought that he and Deborah were going halves at 20% *each*. She did not correct him so the guy ended up giving away 40%. Peter was right to call it out but unless something was left out in editing the young guy just got confused by it all.

I like how the dragons called out Deborah and Richard for demanding 40% of that young guy's business. It shows they do have morals and don't like to see people taken advantage of. It's a shame that he sold 40% of his business but on the plus side maybe it helped him get started. It's also interesting to see how the two highly defensive entrepreneurs had zero self awareness, and instead 100% blamed the dragons, unable to see their own bad attitudes. There's people like that in a lot of workplaces and they're so difficult to work with.

Also after watching a lot of Den I think some of the enterpreneurs from the very beggining purposely overprice their companies just to have better starting point in negotiations or not to have to negotiate any further when the dragons' bid is way over initial percentage offer. It's the enterpreneurs who overprice their businesses extremely, starting with giving up not more than 1-3% of the equity, that are ridiculed by the dragons, Peter especially.
