About the animals helping him... my dad was a radio operator in the Navy during the Korean War. A part of his job was to communicate when a person was saved from the ocean. He'd take down their story to communicate to headquarters. Many stories involved either whales or dolphins protecting them by interacting with them, helping them stay afloat and saving them from sharks. It doesn't surprise me at all that animals would protect a small child.

dolphins are know to be really intelligent creatures, to the point that they actually realize someone is in danger and, yes, actively try to help them. Not sure if its documented in woodland creatures but it's possible I'd imagine. still wouldn't explain how the boy traveled that distance in such a short time. A true mystery but one with a happy ending at least.

"Everyone thought someone else was watching him." LITERALLY. so important to recognize that habit. I'm personally not good with kids but my mom absolutely loves kiddos and whenever I've tagged along to some place with kids, I've been making the conscious decision that, when I go chill in the background, I will watch the kids who stray. When a kid runs off to the side of the yard or behind a tree while everyone else is paying attention to the crowd, I watch for that kid. Makes me feel happy and thankfully nothing bad has happened, but it's something I can do that fits my comfort zone AND really helps.

That’s so awesome! I’m that way with my nieces and nephews. I don’t trust anyone to watch my kids besides my husband, like when I run to the bathroom etc.. I’ve done it a couple times just to come back out and everyone thinks my kids are with someone else. Nope never again.
@lexititus2323
@lexititus2323 Жыл бұрын
I’m the same way, I’m the mom in every group I’m in, always. My husband and I have a system where we split the kid responsibilities between us. We talk about it before we leave the car, with the kids. So, if he takes the responsibility of the oldest, we tell her “hey, daddy is responsible for you today, if you need anything or need help or get hurt, look for him if he’s not already there” and I tell my youngest the same thing for me watching him. When we are at pool parties or the beach or literally anywhere, he watches one, I watch the other, we don’t watch the other persons kid so as to avoid that “mob mentality” problem between us, and to avoid us both paying attention to one kid and not the other. This system works BEAUTIFULLY for us, and has actually let us be able to handle a problem before it became bad. Like one wandering too far when we are hiking, if it’s my kid for the day, I walk after them and keep them safe. If we are at a park and a kid is climbing and it’s my husbands kid, he can be right there to catch them if they slip. Swimming with my youngest who hasn’t had lessons yet, I can snatch him up when he loses his footing and he doesn’t accidentally drown himself. Of course, we are always aware of everyone in our family unit and communicate with each other, but we have our assigned roles and responsibilities already clearly talked about before we even exit the car, and that cuts wayyyy down on the chance of an accident happening. However many more kids we have, we will still use this system because it’s so effective

Cait B: I wondered if those at the family get together who saw the toddler chase the cat into the woods actually thought someone else was watching and keeping up with the toddler. Usually that's the case. And, at the time the toddler was chasing the cat those watching him run off into the woods after the cat didn't think much about it because they subconsciously thought someone else was watching after the toddler.

Dogs' noses, regular, non-blood hound, are never "wrong", they're about, 10,000 times more sensitive than our noses, it's just that in some cases the scent that they're on, can become over-shadowed by another very strong scent(s) in the overall scent, "painting", that is detected by their nose. Bloodhounds, however, are different from other dogs' noses. Because of their own unique genetics and, Humans, doing very selective breeding for well over, 2,500, years, Bloodhounds, have a scenting ability that surpasses us by, 100,000, times ! They have even been known to follow a scent trail as old as, 5, days. Even after, 3-4 days of rain, bloodhounds, have found what they were tracking !! Some people think that they get their name because they, "smell" blood. That's not the case. They got their breed name, because, during the time of the, Romans, only a, "Patrician", a person of, "noble blood", was allowed to own them, that's really the true reason why they are called, Bloodhounds.

I lost my dog one night tracking a deer. He bolted with his leash still on. I was afraid he might get tangled in the brush and get stuck somewhere on the mountain. I spent from 8pm to 1:30 am finding him. He was still on the move after a wounded deer. I can’t imagine parents sitting in their house saying “well it’s just too dark and cold to look for our missing son outside. Concerning Bud. I was in the US Army 8 years- 11C MOS (mortars/infantry). We had a guy in a platoon I was in. He was a pretender. He was always wanting to slip away from actual soldiering and go play 'Rambo'. Sneak around by himself and see what he could get into. We were in the field once (Hohenfels, Germany), and this was a big Mechanized Unit with Bradleys and 113s all camped out in the Battalion Staging Area before we engaged with the OPFOR. It had snowed and it was about knee deep. This dude told his squad leader he was going for a piss and was gone for hours. Finally, the Platoon Leader gets a call on the radio from Battalion HQ/TOC saying they had this dude over there and that he was 'lost'. Dummy had slipped out of our Platoon A/O and decided he wanted to try to sneak up on the Pogues over at Battalion. And he did... sort of. But he couldn't find his way back in the dark (and on a field exercise, you're in black-out dark conditions), so he was forced to walk into Battalion HQ and basically tell them what a Soup Sandwich he was. LOL, Platoon Leader woke up the Platoon SGT and made him go pick the dude up. They made a detour on the way back and Platoon SGT smoked him beside the tank trail in the snow for a half hour while explaining to him what a f--- up he was. But, anyway... Given this Bud guy was kind of outdoor type and was looking forward to this assignment, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that he simply took it upon himself to walk to the top of that mountain because... it's there. He probably underestimated the distance (hills and mountains are bedevilling when it comes to guessing how far away they are). He probably fell into that crevice and got stuck the same way Jessica McClure fell into that well back in the 80s. You'd never think someone could fall down into such a tight space, but there it is.

i think they're freaky as hell, because it completely rules out easy explanations like predators dragging victims out into the forest. how did a 2 year old cover 12 miles of completely undeveloped swampland in around 24 hours without knowing how to swim, when even a trained survivalist who actually tried to cover the exact same distance in the same location could not do it in the time it took the 2 year old?
@Jitter4788
@Jitter4788 23 күн бұрын
@@yawn2274He was probably abducted by a cult that wore animal mask resembling cows, bulls, moose, some animal, or possibly even demon masks. They took him far away for a ritual or killing and placed him there so he couldn’t escape without dying. This explains the distance covered, him calling them cows, him not being wet, and him being left there without injury. They then either left him there to die, or they left to prepare for a killing or ritual before coming back. That seems like the most simple solution which is usually the right one most of the time. Though I guess it could be some paranormal reason too, but I would say that possibility is so low and impossible to prove that it is hard to even try and factor in to the equation. Oh it also seems odd that those specific guys knew exactly where he was and the exact swamp to look miles away from the search area. Maybe they abducted him and got cold feet, so they acted like they rescued him after seeing 1600 people mobilize to find him in a small town.

What I think might have happened to Bud: Since it was a clear and mild night, Bud figured he would make most of it and wanted to enjoy the peace and quiet after finishing his patrol. So he started wandering around until he stumbled upon a large boulder. He climbed on top of it and sat down to get a nice view. After a while he decided to go back and jumped off the boulder on the opposite side, right into the crevice. Although it was a clear night, it was still dark out and it may have been dark enough for him to not spot the crevice.

My grandmother had this journal that was passed down in my family about strange creatures throughout the world. I remember one being the Kelpie. It's now depicted as being a beautiful black horse but originally people described it as being the size of a bull with a huge chest and a long back and legs. With a mane that reached its knees that was thick and slimly like kelp. They lived in streams and bogs and would drown people in the water. Just thought it was creepy that the 2 year old said there was cows in the water. My grandmother would've loved this channel.

Another guess for the last story: He finished the patrol and decided to do a little exploring. He was climbing around that boulder and then dropped something valuable into the crevice. He thought he could retrieve it himself,’so he leaned in farther and farther to get it, slipped, fell in at an odd angle, perhaps even upside-down so any shouting would be muffled, and found himself severely wedged and stuck.

That last story... my husband I talked about it and thought of all the what ifs we could think of and what we conclude is that either we aren't being told the whole story or the other guys killed him. Maybe an argument, something went wrong, they all lured him up there, unalived him then hid his body and made it look as if they guy fell in and got stuck and succumbed to the elements. There is no possible way of someone coming to the island, getting into a scuff, ualives dude, hides the body, then leaves off the island all in an hour without being seen. Doubt dude fell in, got stuck and then died. The other guys did it and covered it up to make it look like an accident on the dudes behalf. The only theory that would make any sense. Anyone else agree?

When I was 2 or 3 I remember running off out of my grandparents backyard and running through back yards in the community, stopping to play with any kids or play equipment I found. To me it was so much fun and I spent the whole day and evening running and playing. This was along a forest too but thank god there was sand boxes and play equipment in the backyards I was exploring to keep me entertained enough to stop me from running into the woods. I had no concept that I was doing anything wrong - I wasn’t thinking about the night time or getting cold - I was just living in the moment having a blast. My grandparents and parents were so scared and shouting for me and eventually found me (I think a neighbour must have spotted me). It is so easy for a young kid to run off in a split second. I should have never been in the backyard without a fence keeping me in and someone out with me. I 100% believe I would have easily and happily ran deep into the woods never to be found again.

@Ed Eddy it would make sense IF you leave out the time aspect. It would take a lot longer for him to go/be transported there than his patroling would take, so the others would most likely start searching for him or alarm HQ right away, a spy would never risk his mission by killing an unsignificant grunt, especially by not disposing of fhe body in the water where he might never been found, but doing the extreme effort of carrying him on the mountain? I do believe the others had something to do with it and they were all in on it, nobody knows if he really disappeared they day they called it in, might have been the day before giving them ample time to carry him up (explains why he was under a rock, if thrown in the water the helos or coast guard might have found him with the injuries responsible for his death, now it is probably a cold case, doubt after all these years and element exposure they find a 100% cause of death), if nobody else is around u only have their side of the story.

Maybe the one kid who was falling asleep under trees was actually sleep walking? Maybe when he was under the tree he was actually awake and then when he kept falling asleep because his body was physically tired from all of the walking, he would continue to sleep walk and in his dream of sleep walking there were things watching him? And maybe just maybe that his sleep walking self was able to push his physical limits and walk the 30-40 miles to where he ended up. I think everyone's had a sleep walking experience once or twice in their life. I've heard of people sleep raping before, sleep walking, sleep driving, sleep eating, sleep shopping all kinds of stuff. One time I slept walked and it was just me and my mom that lived in the house at the time but my 3 other siblings were over and one of their boyfriends and so they were all sleeping in the other living room area which this was a small house probably 1,200 sqf. But I went to bed in my room, and then I woke up completely naked with no blankets in the other living room area on the couch and I was like 17-18 years old. Some how my sleep walking self thought for whatever reason it'd be a good idea in a small house that was fairly crowded to be naked and walk to the couch or who knows where else and start sleeping again lol. To this day I still don't know if anyone else saw me naked just chilling on the couch or not but no one mentioned anything so I think I'm safe. But point is, you can do some pretty wild things when sleep walking that you would never normally do. So that's why I'm almost thinking if he got lost and then sat down to rest and ended up falling asleep maybe it triggered some kind of weird sleep walking session where he walked 40 miles away for no apparent reason and thought things were watching him?

The phenomenon where the more people are around the less likely any one is to offer help is called the Bystander Effect. This is what's at play when you see videos of people dying in the street and no one helping. *To combat the Bystander Effect* don't call out to the crowd, single someone out. Pick someone, anyone, and call out to them specifically. The people around you aren't heartless, so if you single out individuals instead of asking for volunteers they will help you. This could save your life so remember it!

In psychology classes we watched security footage of real people in these situations and were horrified to see everyone walking by ignoring them. None of us could believe that no one was helping and thought we'd never be so heartless. But then ask yourself "how many times have I driven past a stranded motorist without stopping? What excuses did I give myself?" It's the exactly the same thought process at play, which is a terrifying bit of self realization.

I was taught this in my flight attendant course and also in sefarer school. In an emergency, you can't just shout a command into the crowd and hope someone does it, you have to look around, quickly scan the crowd, find someone who looks like they could do the job and give them the order, make them repeat it. If you say "somebody grab that fire extinguisher!", either no one will do it or everyone will try to do it at once.

This reminded me of my brother and me getting lost at sea for a day and having to pull him out of quicksand once. Man, that time he went missing in a national forest and they sent helicopters, dogs everything out. My autistic brother, just walked up out of the forest two days later smiling ear to ear and holding a baby possum on his arm. I was sitting on the steps of the ranger station and he just walked up. I remember going: " I told them you would be alright, Grams is going to be SO PISSED and RELIEVED." My brother before his death in 02 ( struck by 18 wheeler off HWY 10 in Florida while we were on vacation. I was twelve, he was 13.) He was always dragging me on adventures with him and people would find us in the strangest places. My Pops taught us from an early age how to survive in the woods. ( Avid Camper/Hunter) We would just go walking off in the woods together as kids to escape together. We drove my grandparents crazy. Turning bunji cords into swings, running up the side of the house. This reminded me a lot of the pickles he would find himself in.

That last one just sounds like murder to me. It was a small group of people on a lonely island, without much to do - tensions might've been high between them, if they didn't get along that well. Maybe the others were all in on it - we only know the story as told by them, after all. Who knows if the poor guy even intended to go on patrol at all? They could've just killed him, hid his body (and very well, too - they knew the island perfectly after all, and they would've known where he wouldn't be found) and made up that story to cover their tracks. That sounds far more likely to me than anything else.

@Timeturner they could have waited for a day or 2 then reported him missing so his body could have rotted a bit then sunk to the bottom of the ocean and they all thought at first he fell into the ocean so that would have just made them think he fell in even more if they killed him that would have just been a better option they probably just didn't kill him remember this did take place in ww2 we have no idea how long he was really missing if they did kill him and that would have just worked better or they could bury him
