I bought my cv axle pair on a hunch that both of them may have been bad... Video after video I watch literally tells me that I not only made the correct calls, but that the very very slight crack at the base of the outside joint cover is/was a bigger issue than I imagined it. I was told that the axle shifting lengthwise along its axis is normal (but good parts don't move around right? Apparently not for axles... but I digress the issue was the boot cover.) The clicking while turning (almost especially) and when I hit dips going faster than 15mph gave me the inclination that something was wrong with my front end, so I scoped it out... Thanks for being a huge confirmation!

You should still have brakes :) you will just lose traction and destroy the entire axle area.

I did an engine swap a while back. On a Subaru. Had to replace both front axles. About a year later I’ve noticed a lot of bad vibrations when braking. I’ve replaced tie rods, control arm, ball joints, wheel bearing, brakes and rotors. There is still vibrations. I’m going to be upset if it’s the axels because I would have never guessed. Here’s the kicker, the inner joint has spun grease everywhere on the firewall. I didn’t think much of it because I thought it would be clicking when turning. Well after watching your video I’m going to pull it off and look at it. I’ll check back to let you know if this is why.

It is inner ones for me, and it's on both left and right side. I feel vibrations around 20-30km/h when accelerating, so my friend who is mechanic checked it out and found out they both have a little bit of play in them. So yeah, I'm changing those soon.

Can it cause a jolt when releasing gas pedal at speed and another jolt when pressing gas pedal again? I've been trying to chase this fault down for a year now. Bot lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods and both tilt stabilizers and back transmission mount already replaced. Someone in the forum said it was driver side cv axle for them but I've never encountered them to fail like this. There are no noise and engine works perfectly fine, it feels like broken engine mount but engine mounts seem to be fine, engine does not shake.

Hi , I have hamming/vibrating noise coming from passenger side, when I'm sitting in driver seat. It's like something is spinning in uneven way. Zero up to 100 km/h nothing. It starts at 100 km/h, peaks at 110 km/h and disappears at 130 km/h. That sound is definitely connected only to car speed and not to engine rpms. Its louder when pressing gas pedal/accelerating, but it does not disappear completely when not accelerating. Its not engine, because that sound is same when in neutral or any other gear. Its not unbalances tire or wheel. I tried many different wheels. Ball joints are perfectly firm. Sound does not change when braking. There is no play in wheel in any direction. I've already changed both sides bearings and inner transmission side axl homokinetic joint since I found this joint could cause this sound. No rubber boots were damaged. All looking good as new. I used high quality replacement and nothing helped. Axl itself looks perfectly fine. I also tried clicking test when turning full left, full right and accelerating. Nothing, there is no clicking sound. No I dont know, this sound started just like that 4 month ago and does not get better or worse. Still the same. I didnt hit pot hole or anything. I'm driving quality highways. My car is vw golf 6 with only 110 000 km in very good shape. Now I plan to change outer wheel side homokinetic joint, but I dont believe it will fix it. I will be glad for all ideas and suggestions.

@@cmackchong8518 Well about 4000 km and it's not getting worse. Last weekend I changed joint on the right side. So the right axl has both joint new. And it's still vibrating 🙈😁 must be that left Axel 😂

Update: I've changed all four joints on axles and the vibrating sound is still same 🙈 I checked all joints and they seem fine. Must be something simple as alignment.

@@lengengineer2050 Only thing than can leak is black vaseline that lubricates those axle joints. If it leaks it means that one or more of those rubber boots that cover those joints are torn. So actually, if the hole is small and dirt didn't come inside then there is a good chance that joint is ok. Changing the rubber boot may be 5-20$ for the boot + work. I did it by my sefl on parking lot and it took me an hour, so it should not cost much. If you decide to change joint of even whole axle then you don't have to touch the other side. They are completely separated.

hi i have 2006 vw passat 2.0 tdi automatic, the entire car shakes while accelerating roughly between 50-70kph, shaking stops instantly when you stop accelerating could this be the inner cv? any thoughts on this are appreciated, worth noting both front shocks and bushings have been replaced to no avail

I've replaced my axle with a cheap one, didn't fix the problem, I replaced that with an oe one, that didn't fix it and I just replaced that with another oe one and it still making shuttering/clunking while braking and turning sharp

Bad remanufactured unit.. It happens. Best to go with an "all new" halfshaft next time around. More expensive, but worth the peace of mind.

@@MechMan0124 the first replacement was from rock Auto, the second is oe from FCP and the third is also an oe from FCP. Still having issues. Also replaced both control arms and ball joints. Tie rods and sway bar end links have no noticable play. Struts should be replaced but I don't see how that would cause the turning and stopping issue

Hi, My car bounces and steering wheel shudders aggressively generally when it's raining or on a bad motorway for while.. this is double intense when accelerating or just leaving the car in gear but no throttling.. Feels like the wheels suddenly become seriously unbalanced and the car is thrown into a bouncing motion so this where the steering wheel, shudders aggressively bad.. My driveshaft boot is torn and has been for 18 months but this is near the wheel so does this sound like outer cv ?

Hmmmm the strange thing is that mine does not vibrate at high speeds. Its vibrates as you lift the clutch and the car begins to move off from rest! It also causes a tremendous loss of power as the engine has to work harder to overcome the resistance from the shaft..

If you haven’t already sorted this out, odds are you have a bad wheel bearing. That’s attached to this shaft. You’ll want to get that replaced sooner than later. As a note, the shaft *could* be bad/damaged, but they’re pretty resilient. Typically the bearing is what gives first. Good luck!
