You can tell just how much heart and effort was put into this trilogy. We will never be able to see a trilogy be as amazing as this ever again! “We had no interest in putting our messages into this movie. But we thought we should honor Tolkien by putting his message into It” -Peter Jackson, 2002 Edit 2024: this is still the greatest movie trilogy :)

The arrival of the Rohirrim at Pelennor Fields is without a doubt my top favorite scene in the trilogy. (Hell, the entire battle sequence was amazing!) The battle at Amon Hen (where Boromir died saving the Hobbits), Mount Doom (Sam's "I cannot carry it for you but I can carry you!"), the Bridge of Khazad-Dum ("You shall not pass!") and Bilbo's birthday speech are among my other top favorite scenes.

In the book, when Eomer believes both his uncle and sister dead on the field, he gathers up his remaining Riders and they chant/scream 'Death' as they rampage the enemy lines. It's also VERY moving soon after when Eomer learns that Eowyn yet lives and gets to the Houses Of Healing with Aragorn to tend to both she and Merry. Great stuff! Cheers! I liked all of your scenes as well.

Scenes for feminists lolz
@PositiveVibes943 жыл бұрын
Interesting point to note, as much of a badass, empowering woman as she is and as much of an amazing feminist moment as this is, when you read the books, it's not so much. The prophesy was that no man could kill him, meaning no one from the race of men. the reason that he died was to do with merry stabbing him, which wasn't touched on enough in the films. Merry had a barrow dagger which was an elven blade imbued with magic. when Merry stabbed him, it hurt him deeply but it devered the nazguls connection to Sauron, essentially breaking the semi imortality that he had. From the moment that Merry stabbed him, he was no longer able to regenerate his form (for example, the way that they all did after Aragorn beat them on weathertop) so when she stabbed him, he was mortal and died. An interesting argument has been made in regards to the fact that Merry stabbing him was what killed him, which would also mean that he wasn't beaten by the race of men. I love the route they went for in the film though. creating this hugely empowering, natural feeling female moment. and they did it 20 years before it was normal to do. they did it 100x better than the Avengers films and made it such a powerful moment, regardless of how the books originally wrote it

One of my favourite scenes (though very simple) is when Gandalf's horse Shadowfax appears when he whistles. Simple, but so beautiful. I loved the liberty taken by Peter Jackson in having Shadowfax as a white horse. With a name like Shadowfax, you would think that was a black horse.

@NathanConlin2 жыл бұрын
I've just always been slightly confused at the fact that Gandalf so casually rides the lord of all horses into battle. Like, he leads a charge into a pike wall of orcs at least 3 separate times. Is Shadowfax aligned with the fellowship? Or is his loyalty specifically to Gandalf? It was said in the books he wasn't Gandalf's horse, but rather a friend who came in times of need

Charge of the rohirim at minas tirith
@daniel_sc10243 жыл бұрын
If I had to pick the top 5 scenes from the trilogy, they'd be: 5. the battle sequence in the prologue of the extended edition. 4. Lighting of the signal fires. It's a short sequence, but the music and cinematography are epic. 3. The Last March of the Ents and their attack on Isengard. 2. The siege of Minas Tirith, when the trebuchets started swinging and then the Nazghul came flying in. 1. The charge of the Rohirim on Pellanor Field. This has to be the most epic scene in the entire franchise. Honorable mentions: The eagles are coming! Who didn't get a chill down their spine when that happened? The worg attack on the way to Helm's Deep, specifically that acrobatic scene of Legolas' as he swings onto that horse. The ending of the Battle of Helm's Deep, with Theodan riding out with Aragorn, and Gimli blowing that big horn. Orc attack on Osgiliath Retreat from Osgiliath (when Gandalf rode out and saved them from the Nazghul).

I noticed all of these scenes are basically battle scenes, and they are outstanding. But there are some extraordinary "philosophical" scenes that should have been included. For example: Gandalf's homily, for lack of a better word, in the Mines of Moria. GANDOLF: "Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends.... FRODO: "I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened." GANDOLF: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in the world, Frodo, besides the will of evil...." Our when Sam follows Frodo, as Frodo tries to sneak away and cross the River Anduin. And when Gandalf speaks to Pippin about what comes after death. That was in the middle of the Battle of Pellinor Fields. I find these movies incredibly spiritual.

@@pinkfloydhomer I just saw your comment. Sometimes I go back and read things that people had in response to my comment. I can see your comment as being humorous if that is where you are coming from. But I have a distinct feeling that is not your sentiment. People who correct spelling and English on the internet (or in real life for that matter) are in my opinion petty. They think too much of their own intellect, which in many cases proves they are neither intelligent nor sensitive to others. This makes them even less intelligent, as it is evidence of their lack of emotional intelligence. Gandolf is of course a misspelling of a character in Lord of the Rings. But apparently, you feel you are so clever you must let the whole world know. You had to tell them that your ability to make a glib remark is much more critical than an observation that another person thought they could share without editing. If I wanted an editor, I would hire one. If your finesse with empty comments is so important (and they must be important), your superficial remark indeed usurped what I had to say. Perhaps it is because you take yourself so seriously; the world has to know you can spell Gandalf correctly - not this idiot who thinks anything serious does not belong here; and besides, she doesn't know how to spell Gandalf. She should be just as superficial as myself. The person that thought there were more critical moments in the film, observing that violence is overrated, should instead make a more inferior remark like mine. I believe that you are supercilious with your "casual" putdown because putdown is what it was. Okay. HaHaHa...your funny and I'm not.

Howard Shores score is the magic that makes all of these scenes so good. Everytime I watch I'm shocked at how the music truly brings all the incredible elements of this film together. Quite possibly the best move score ever composed.

Whoa, it sounded like he said f*ck you guys” at the end there. But apparently it was “Thank you”, well more like “Fank you” lmao

clearly you like the big battle scenes. My favorite would be the council of Elrond where the flames appear in the reflection of the ring. It captures so well the distrust between the races.

I love LOTR but Return of the King is my favourite. Imo it’s a cinematic masterclass, there’s a reason it got like 32 nominations at the Oscars and won 12-13 awards (joint highest wins). The run time doesn’t bother me, I’ve even watched the 4hr extended edition which made it even better 👌👌

The Fellowship of the Ring is the most consistent. Second is The Two Towers, last is RoTK but they're all good.
