Series 10 is such a fantastic series. It doesn't get the credit it deserves. Bill, Nardole, Missy, final-form Twelfth Doctor, Daleks, Movellans, Ice Warriors, Mondasian Cybermen, the Master, David Suchet, Nicholas Burns, Joseph Long, Rona Munro, Mark Gatiss, Rachel Talalay, best TARDIS interior, best opening theme, and with Rusty and David Bradley's First Doctor for the final episode - its a masterpiece. Up there with Series 4 & 5 as the best cohesive New Who seasons, and best outings for their respective Doctors

For me the best Dalek scene from the Moffat era has to be the Doctor's testimony to the Daleks. The rage, the hatred he feels, and then it's so quickly taken away and replaced by fear as he realises he's played right into the Dalek's suckers. Really fantastic acting from Smith, a real highlight from his era on the whole for me.

The colour scheme wasn't the best but they fixed that on asylum, if they all had that material then it'd be good, the overall design of them however is something we need more of, the voice, the height, the build and even the overall demeanour was the pinnacle of dalek... Everything about them was perfect but the plastic texture they had when they first appeared

Best dalek scene in the Moffat era IMO has to be the scene in the Magician's Apprentice where they 'kill' Missy and Clara. There's such a great tension throughout the whole scene as Missy provokes them and Davros explains their instincts to the Doctor.

After Missy 'dies' and they all slowly turn their domes to face Clara is so genuinely harrowing, would say its one of the only times Moffat was able to make the daleks feel truly terrifying even if just for a fleeting moment.

@@chemi169 Completely agreed with you and @JP-yf2fk. Davros' voiceover while the Daleks encircle Clara goes the heart of why the Daleks are so terrifying. There's a lot of Steven Moffat's writing I don't like, but that episode (and that series, really) was a tremendous reminder of why he's one of the most consequential writers/producers in Doctor Who's history.

Not a dalek scene, but, the interaction between Davros and the twelfth Doctor was one of the best of New Who.

Sucks that it was all faking. How interesting would it be to have a story like the Daveos Big Finish story, but this time you have a doctor who is far more empathic and willing to help Davros if there was a real chance to change him.

@@robotx9285 I think Davros was being genuine, it may have been part of a broader scheme to trick the Doctor but Davros likely told the truth in order to sell the deception. Its typical of a character like Davros for the only time he can be sincere and vulnerable is when it's part of a maniacal scheme. I don't think there's any context in which the Doctor can realistically pity Davros anymore - he's the creator of the Daleks, he's beyond help, and any attempt to make that happen for real would only detract from the character. From that point of view, we get the best of both worlds in The Witch's Familiar. We see Davros and the Doctor genuinely connect for a moment, even if it is a small island of sincerity amid an ocean of deception

I can believe that the battle shown in Day of the Doctor being near the end of the war is why it just looks like a generic sci-fi battle, but I don't think any of the Time War should ever have been depicted. The descriptions made by the Doctor, the Master, Davros and various Daleks made it seem much bigger than any visuals ever could.

Maybe now that Day of the Doctor spoiled the Time War and saved the Time Lords, and the Master has since destroyed them again, perhaps enough time has passed since the introduction of the Time War that a Time War spin-off series would work (with Disney's budget).

Maybe not "Dalek scenes" per se, but I love the bits in _The Witch's Familiar_ where - Missy tells Clara that the decomposing Daleks on the sewer walls are still alive, and that Daleks use the same word for 'sewer' and 'graveyard.' - Clara hears her voice distorted by a Dalek casing, and Missy tells her that Daleks shout "Exterminate" as a way to reload. That's a great explanation for a reoccurring point of mockery.

The scene where Missy and Clara are standing on ground they can't see, Missy realizing that they're on Skaro, and then that Dalek agreeing, is a great reveal, and an excellent showing of Michelle Gomez's acting skill.

I think Moffat initially had a bigger plan for the Daleks with the Paradigm Daleks, and the scene where the Paradigm Daleks disintegrate the Ironside Daleks was probably meant to be symbolic as well. However, I think Moffat dropped those plans after the fan backlash to the new design.

I would definitely agree, I watched it in preparation for this video and it was the first time I'd seen it for over a year, I'd forgotten how good it is. It's interesting comparing it to 'Dalek' in Series 1 - people say Into the Dalek is a ripoff of Dalek but that's completely untrue, if anything the two episodes are exact opposites. It's my favourite Dalek episode of the Moffat era, no question

My favorite scene in this era is a small one, it may not be my 100% favorite, but it is one I think of often. "You saved my life Rusty. But I'll do you, ONE BETTER. I'm going to save your Soul." "Daleks do not have souls." I know Doctor Who is pure sci-fi, but I love how despite that, the Doctor still believes in things we can't see, and how lucky Rusty is to have the chance to understand that. Because out of the innumerable Daleks spread out across space in and time, HE, a lowly unit, gets that chance to have a soul. Sadly, it didn't end up that way, but the gravitas of that statement feels hopeful and optimistic. It's as if the Doctor was defying something more powerful in himself as he said it.

I can definitely understand why the last battle of the time war seemed generic. The Time Lords used up all their super weapons (except for the moment and final sanction) and lost all their battle Tardis'. And after losing Skaro and their home fleet, the Daleks mustered up enough Daleks as they could for one final push for revenge (10 million ships and about 20 billion Daleks in total is still is still a suprising amount left for one last fight). So both sides were pretty much reduced to slugging it out.

There are loads of good examples of great dalek sciences in the Moffat era a scene I do really like is when the daleks shoot Clara in magicians apprentice while davros is talking to the doctor most of my other favrout dalek moments are in this video

i honestly think moffat's era dalek stories get way too overlooked, like while yes there were weak elements in them, as a rule they all still serve as a solid stories regardless

Compared to the previous video, which one was harder to choose just 5 scenes for? This or RTD?

Good question - there were scenes that I had to leave out of both videos, for different reasons. The RTD era is full of great Dalek moments, so I was spoiled for choice. I chose to include mostly action-focused scenes to narrow it down to just 5. The Moffat era doesn't have as many 'kickass scenes' with the Daleks, but there are lots of great examples of other characters talking about the Daleks in this era, which I couldn't really include in this video as they don't technically count as 'Dalek moments'. So I'm thinking of doing a follow-up video in a few weeks that will summarise 5-10 great Dalek 'dialogues', including things like the Doctor first encountering the Metaltron, the Doctor talking about the Daleks in Victory of the Daleks, and Davros and the Doctor's conversations from Series 9. Next up is the 5 best Dalek moments from the Chibnall era, which was fairly straightforward as they only have three dedicated episodes so for two of them I could pick two scenes
