combat animations in rome 2 , no more little town like in empire in rome 2 , ugly general face in diplomacy in rome 2, no more campaign map modding , no more easy customisable skill of unit ( i put +10 in melee for all unit except for roman (and only 2 for pilum) ,british and egypt) , total war turning game after game like a paradox game (rtw and mtw2 didn't need more politic to be fun) , too few buiding to build in campaign settlement, ... and so on, I think you should have done a 30 points video or a 5 bestpoint for each game and a 5 worst

El Cid as a rebel general in Valencia in M2TW, almost legendary figure in Spanish history and even more buffed in the literature (He would just kill hordes of moors with his short sword like it was a fucking Dynasty Warriors). In the game he have some E-P-I-C stats

AI Merchants in M2TW have like 95% chance of success taking your merchants business ... your merchant have 5% of success taking others merchants place

It made no sense how 2 turns in the AI would have a dam near maxed out merchant on his way to your richest trade spots

There's also a % chance for neutral acquisition too, so your success rate is really more like 2.5%!

I mean, for what it’s worth, Total War: Rome 2 in 2019 and 2020 is actually pretty good. I bought it 4 months ago and so far I haven’t ran into any bugs, and the only time the game crashed on me is when I accidentally ran two incompatible mods at once.

When your cardinal becomes Pope in Medieval 2 you get reconciled into the chruch if you are excomuniacted and he/the Pope becomes more tolerant in your wars against other catholic nations for a while while condeming wars waged against you. This can come in handy once in a while but means very little and the politics/intrigue in the vatican could have been so much more. When it comes to being unable to change heir in medieval 2 it makes sense. While in the ancient world(Rome) the most suitable man within the family or goverment was chosen to rule based of his merit and skills, and relationship with the current ruler. In the feudal(Medieval) system the first born (usually male) was the rightful ruler chosen by God. It would have been cool with a family system with a lot of plotting for power or siblings starting rebellions and civil wars claiming the throne where you could choose to side with one of them instead.

Problem with the m2tw system is just that your oldest son only becomes the heir if hes an adult. Else i think your oldest brother/nephew/other adult relative becomes heir. And i would be okay with that if it changes after your son comes of age, but it doesnt. So i would have liked the option to declare an heir, just to get a realistic title sucsession

Personally, I don't really mind the pope mechanic. I like how he develops his own will eventually while he first indeed has to pay you back the fact you basically appointed him. I like to elect the oldest preferati's into pope-ness since they won't have too much of a chance to shift against me. The only thing I would like to see enhanced in my style of playing is being able to enter diplomacy with other faction's preferati. Since I don't mind voting them in (as long as they're older then my guy) as the new pope. Especially since that does often lead other factions to misvote on the candidate they think will win. Which only favors me more with the new pope then anyone of the other factions...

Having said that, I wouldn't mind the option to go Church of England once you have been excomunicated. Especially since at some point in the game, you will be the most powerful nation out there. Would be nice to trigger some new kind of state-religion, which might for instance lead to some generals deserting, unrest in city's (the more devout, the bigger the upset)... which you all would need to transition in. As wel as dealing with the fact the first 'x' crusades will be aimed at your empire... "Medieval 3 TW: Rise of the Protestants" :p

If you end the battle when the 'End Battle' screen appears, you will get a better battle rating then if you continue to slaughter the fleeing enemy. Never stopped me from slaughtering them anyway. - Glad to know I wasn't the only one who hated the Arcani. I hated them so much I had them fight enemy elephants.

A fair argument, the problem lies in the inability to properly test and eliminate bugs, glitches ect. However when your rushed to meet deadlines by an over-standing developer or producer, their is going to be a system where you introduce a product that creates disgust among long standing supporters of the franchise, in the hopes that hype and sales cover your existence to be a independent studio.

With the comment about becoming Pope, I don't know that it does much either. But you can play as the Papal States if you unlock the files, and then you get to control the inquisitors, haha. Basically legitimized Assassins. The frequency with which Popes die can be an annoyance though. Biggest pain for me in Total War games is the AI. Especially Diplomacy. Factions will make peace with you and then declare war on you again within a turn or two. Same even if you become a vassal. Especially Medieval 2 and Rome. (Maybe others, but I haven't played every title) Might be time to take a leaf out of Paradox Game's book and introduce some kind of 'Cassus Belli' function. There would still be lots of wars, but you could focus on trade and development if you wanted to.

3:16 Upon numerous tests I have realized that it's a mix of the number and quality of troops both faction start with then the number of troops both of you end up with. Not sure of the exact calculations but those variables seem to be the only thing that influence how a battle is treated. For example if you fight an enemy that outnumbers you 4 to 1 but you win with half your troops left then it would be an average battle, if many manage to flee it might even turn into a close victory.

Diomedes Perdomogarcia once I lost a battle against mediolanum who rebelled against me. My expert legionaries moved in to secure the massive city for the Julii again after hundreds of years of rebellion. Peasants and hastati stood at the walls, the legionaries, superior in skill and number, slaughtered the initial defenses, but with heavy losses. The peasants never gave up, eventually slaying the general and slaughtering all his men. Eventually I recaptured it. Mediolanum would rebel many more times, (as they do), but this was the most epic, defiant battle they fought. It was not regarded as a famous battle.

After your bishop becomes the pope, you get favor with him is at maximum, you can call a crusade immediately.

I can't speak for Thrones of Britannia, but got to agree with the cut features. The population mechanic was one of the few things that made your empire feel like a dynamic thing which was growing and that people were making their lives in. 'Settlement value' and growth levels feel so gamey and tacked on compared to actually knowing how many souls live in your major cities. Even if they just gave you a rough number as your settlement expands, it would be better. The ancillaries and particularly the general's traits... I can't feel attached to any of my commanders anymore. They don't feel like real people anymore, just cookie cutter RPG characters of the type we've seen in literally every other game ever made. Medieval II and Rome I (hell, even Medieval I) breathed some real life into the world. The limited building slots do have a point though. Much as my inner megalomaniac disagrees, your settlement should not immediately be able to do everything. There are probably ways it could have been made more intuitive and immersive though. Working out what to do with new territory which completely throws out the balance in the rest of my empire is a headache. It's especially bad if you have to conquer a bunch of food-negative provinces at once. There is something depressingly realistic about conquering a bunch of famine-inflicted lands only to find yourself mired in the famine as well though.

Rome 2 DivideEtImperum is SO Fucking amazing i never knew how troubled rome 2s launch was but I got into DEI at the beginning of the year and it was the closest feeling I've gotten to the level of history and magnitude of medieval 2 by far. oh my God they just dropped the Alexander campaign and it's good damn good

Not being able to change the faction heir in Medieval II is for sure inconvenient, but it is probably historically accurate. The Roman Emperors could appoint their successors. The medieval kings usually could not - the elder son was always a heir apparent.

About that underwhelming victory screens... I was plying Attila as WRE and with one scrappy army, I manage to defeat 2 armies of Burgundians or something which outnumbered me 2 to 1 and got Pyrrhic victory? What a load of crap, I felt bad even though my general would be elevated to emperor staus by his troops after such victory if the game was realistic :< (seriously look this up, 4th century was such a mess)

Getting elected to pope is only really good for shifting diplomacy around a bit. Basically your relation with the pope gets maxed out and anyone you are at war with will have their relations drop quite a bit (especially because they aren't voting for your's).

God, Rome 2’s release...why the HELL did they make the skirmish battles a game of hardpoint?! No family tree! Ridiculously easy AI, the bugs... it’s kind of a miracle that Rome 2 was saved, it literally had a No Man’s Sky level of terrible release.

Rome 2 has been improved a great ton since coming out a lot of patches and bug fixes can’t even stand playing rome 1 anymore when Rome 2 is just so much better

My first campaign for Rome 2 was about 6 months ago. Playing as Rome, about 5 turns in (2 hours of playing) I came across a game breaking bug involving ships meaning I lost a super long and difficult battle that I shouldn't have done.

Exactly. Rome1 and Med2 have aged very poorly and the only reason they get constantly touted as the best ever are thick nostalgia glasses. I'm running into bugs near constantly when I try those titles and I have to save nearly every turn just because crashes are so frequent and this gets only worse when you use mods. Rome2 patch14 is the last time a modern TW title crashed on me.

not really, currently playing through Med 2 and literally not even a single issue... apart the AI being stupid, but i am more of a multiplayer guy anyway and daaaaaaaaamn, in multiplayer Rome total war was god tier with med 2 being close......... as for newer games? ive played attila, shogun 2, rome 2... the only one out of those three i can definetly say I enjoyed was shogun. heard warhammer is pretty good, magic just aint my thing tho

@@ZhengIsRight modern hardware issues but with a remaster releasing end of month that will be solved. honestly some games just dont know what to do with multicore cpu's game developers in 2004 had no way to design games to run on 12 core cpu's and multiple gigabytes of vram and upwards of 16gb of ram. those numbers would of looked more at home in star trek than someones home in current year to them

Electing a pope in m2tw is actualy very useful because of 2 reasons. 1: The pope will always accept your suggestion for crusade 100% 2. Christian kingdoms atacking you have a very high chance of being excommunicated, wich destroyes their diplomatic relations.

Rome 2 at launch could be probably the most disappointment i ever had with a Total War, not because the game itself but the amount of bullcrap, bugs, lack of optimization, ect. it had. TBH, Americas DLC for M2TW could be also, definition of dense if you play as natives or overpowered if you go with Spain

Rome 2 you can beat the entire campaign through just auto-resolve without many problems. I think the battles themselves in Rome 2 are harder, but the player can just auto-resolve those and get an easy win.

In Medieval 2 I found that you can only transfer retinues that are objects, but never people. The Muslim factions also have a huge advantage because they can call crusades themselves with any priest that has 4 piety. Having your armies joining jihad for free upkeep and raiding multitudes of Christian settlements.

I wish they would stop revolving the battles around fantasy hero rambo bull with superpowers and milking with DLC's . The literal definition of what being a soldier was not . Earlier TW titles was at least slightly historical . Now TW is an arcade-game abomination . Is seems like game series (Call of Duty for example) that began as neat ideas to immerse you into what it was like for soldiers/warriors no longer care about the historical aspect/reality. Video games have become purely commercial .

Rome 2 dei is one of the best experiences I've ever had playing total war since I've discovered it I'm getting close to surpassing my hours spent on medieval 2 which is insane to think becuase I've only been playing it for a few months and I've played medieval 2 since I was a teenager

the whole series is flawed as hell tbh. every game is either near perfecion with terrible ai (empire tw rome 1 and med 2) or reasonably decent ai with terrible campaign devoid of substance (warhammer, atilla and 3kingdoms) id say shogun 2 is the closest thing we have to a truly great tw game
