When I began to lift I was unable to do backsquats because of a lack of hip mobility, zercher squat being less demanding I used it for a year or two. Excellent variation

paused squats, front or back, are my favourite exercise tbh. always doing them for warmups and often like to go heavy with them.

i think a pause above parallel after coming out of the hole can be good for lifters that have a hard time using their legs.

The number one squat is ABSOLUTELY the Hatfield squat. Conducive to the MOST load and least stress. If you could test someone’s pure ‘squat’ strength in a vacuum with no variational restrictions that come using a straight bar, the Hatfield Squat is the ultimate and purest squat.

Using box squats rn as I deal with some tendinopathy. Mainly use it so I can standardize depth and will make the box lower and lower till I can tolerate full knee flexion. It’s definitely way different than my usual ATG pause squat!

given your thoughts on periodization, would you say it is really possible to go lift twice a week (say squat) and simply look to improve your performance every time (i know you wont see progress each workout, but go into each workout with that mindset)

I’m surprised there’s no Hatfield squat here? You can load the shit out of it, you can maximally overload the eccentric portion of your squat and assist yourself on the way up with the difference. You can add a pause at the bottom and you can comfortably shift the emphasis (torso angle) between leg and hip drive due to the support of the barbell with your arms.

Deficit trap bar deadlift. Work up to a decent max. 5 or 10 lb more than before and then do 65 to 75% for 2 to 3 sets.

Will is a hater of trap bar variations for squat tho...
@racerx25804 ай бұрын
@@MegaCannavaro05 There's no doubt that will is an incredibly strong individual. But there's nothing wrong with the trap bar in my opinion. It's just another tool in the toolbox that provides mechanical tension, more so directly on the traps and upper back and especially quads. Ask me how I know because I did the exact same thing I just posted about the other day and my traps are on fire. Quads aren't too bad but I think more of a direct mechanical load on my traps which created a new stimulus gave me Dom's. Obviously to keep your posterior and anterior strong you want to do back squats, which obviously we know is the prime movement for building all around strength. But I truly don't see anything wrong with trap bar. It also provides an incredible stimulus strength-wise to the whole body when maxing out with it. I think it's a great alternative to barbell deadlift.

It’s a great mistake to view the barbell back squat as a squat that isn’t a variation. It gives MANY people issues with their backs because their body is in a very unnatural position, creating a severely compromised movement.
