New Leaf has that special sauce atmosphere that no other thing in existence can match. It's cozy and nostalgic but also upbeat and reflective and oh man it's so peak. The 3DS has such a great library, some recommendations from me would be Pilotwings Resort, Fantasy Life and pretty much any Monster Hunter game. Also congrats on 50K!!

Not me watching all this list bc I'm waiting on my 3ds xl to arrive. Came here to speed through it but actually stayed for the personality, really fun video! It's insane how many people are picking this console up rn?? You would think the popularity would go down, but since modding seems so easy I can understand the hypee, switch games are crazy expensive. Only had DSi as a kid so I'm super excited to replay all the games I had at 8 and discover the new 3ds games!

Just started SMT4 a few weeks ago. I cannot put it down! It’s rare for me to get past the first 20hrs in an rpg game especially with turn based battles but SMT4 is so cool! Itches that pokemon urge with much higher difficulty, more intricate mechanics, and a seemingly infinite number of recruitable party members. Really digging it so far

Hey if you mod your 3ds and have one of the new 3ds systems I believe you can use the Luma menu to increase framerate for most games. This can really help for Snake Eater 3D. Hope this helps! (Sorry I forgot the steps to do it I just know you can)

Great list, and very personal to you. I can recommend some eShop bangers that nowadays require piracy, but they're super; Pushmo, Pocket Card Jockey, and Attack of the Friday Monsters. I never had a DS, so it also became my first experience with gems like Elite Beat Agents, and Ghost Trick. Altogether, a lovely little console, and I miss the feeling of getting new surprises on there... though I still haven't played Siesta Fiesta, so I'm not really done either!

Some more games for peeps still playing: Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX Etrian Odyssey (start with Untold 1 or 2) 7th Dragon III: Code VFG (basically Etrian Odyssey but top down instead of grid based). Fantasy Life The Silver Falls games (a one man team - five very different games, 3 Down Stars being the flagship). Resident Evil Revelations and Mercenaries - best graphics and 3D effects on the system. Alliance Alive (traditional jRPG).

The best (and few) I played were Ocarina of Time, Kirby Triple Deluxe, AC New Leaf, and Sm4sh-my fav on the system. I’ll never forget how excited I was in middle school when the demo dropped after my last class. Or how it’s the game responsible for destroying my control pad cover. (Also still sad they never brought back Rainbow road or smash run). God I do miss this era of games tbh. It’s so nostalgic (which feels weird to say since I don’t consider the 3DS to be retro but yeah).

I bought the 3DS after getting my first job just to spite my brother who was saving up his allowance to get one. I now look back on it as having some of the best games ever. Best version of Ocarina of Time Star Fox 64 on the go Mario and Luigi Dream Team Samus Returns Bravely Default and Second were awesome A SEQUEL TO MY FAVORITE ZELDA GAME (Link Between Worlds) OMEGA RUBY ALPHA SAPPHIRE?!!? KIRBY PLANET ROBOBOT!?!?!? MY FAVORITE KIRBY GAME???? I don't have my OG 3ds anymore, but I DO still have my Link Between Worlds 3DS XL that I've been using for the past decade.

I think I prefer Miracle Mask to Azran Legacy, but you do you. Also does this mean you never played Rhythm Thief? It's by no means perfect but I think it was a solid rhythm game with a Layton-esque vibe to it. I could easily imagine a crossover, but that's microscopically unlikely.

Yo-kai watch is AWESOME. Stop with this bs. Tell me, what other RPG for Nintendo consoles made urban environments actually a key pillar of exploration, instead of just a hub for NPCs and shops? Oh yeah, Earthbound. Yo-kai Watch (specially the second one) dove headfirst into the city life. It's a STARK difference from games where the map designers and ambiance clearly were targeting open fields and landscapes, with cities coming as an afterthought. The city IS the fields and landscapes in Yo-kai watch. Different neighborhoods and all, and very accurate too. The environments look modern, from fast food places, to rich mansions with modern architecture, to poorly maintained strip malls, to abandoned housing projects, to traditional Japanese residences, to temples, to train stations, etc Honestly, they get way too much flak for marketing themselves as the Pokémon killer (which time has proven never goes well in the long term). Yo-kai watch isn't that. To me, it's much more reminiscent of Mother than Pokémon. I loved exploring wacky, living cities on the SNES and I loved exploring modern, living cities in the 3DS
