To add to what Chris said, when you first start off, a lot of things look the same. The longer you are into the hobby, the easier you can pick up on the subtle differences, your perception really changes over time. Raising them yourself, you get to see what the morphs do over time, where sometimes morphmarket and worldofballpythons has all baby pics of a certain morph you are curious about. The morph specials Chris talked about are the best thing when you are first starting because an experienced breeder will point out what to look for to tell if it's that gene or not, as well as show what it does in combos.
@11yoyomama4 жыл бұрын

Great video Chris, to me the Clown will always be the king of the recessives for the fact that there really isn't any wrong combo with Clown, they make everything look outstanding. Some of these newer morphs like Sunset look amazing when they are babies but really dull out as adults. I guys it'll take time to really see the full potential of Sunset. They are all great though even doms and co doms, I just love snakes in general.

It's because most people need more females than male and a lot of people will hold back females too and not having as many to sell and needing more than the males both probably keep them going for higher.
@xezjoltz52483 жыл бұрын
The reason why it’s like that is because a female gets bigger than the male
@michaelpryor782 жыл бұрын
Females can only mother one clutch a year. Males can sire multiple clutches. Therefore, breeders need more females than males, and as such, there's a higher demand for females. Higher demand=higher price.

I think single gene recessives even only somewhat hold it, but if they are 100% or even 66% for basically any other recessive or at least one Codom with it it's crazy how much the value jumps. I'm coming from the boa world (not super experienced but heavily studied for a year) and recessives that are quite old hold value for much longer there, let alone basically any combos, but boas are much harder and take way longer to grow up etc. I hope to possibly breed some BPs a little bit once I found out it takes much less time to grow up a female, let alone a male lol.

I've noticed a lot of very active ball python breeders have shut down their pages or have left them idle with nothing available for several years. Has the breeding industry slowed down in your opinion? Has covid affected sales? Prices seem to have gone up as well in some cases others down. Perhaps because of limited availability? The market just seems so different from 4 years ago. I've noticed that the live reptile auctions are practically non existent. Has facebooks ban on animal sales affected the industry?

If I remember correctly you start pairing a month before for me winter hits a little sooner for you but say you start pairing oct 1st when do you start seeing eggs and what’s the time range between your first clutch and last? It doesn’t have to be exact just say like an average over your few years of breeding

Had a question I need help with, So I just started breeding. I have 4 snakes so far, and all were friendly one is a little on edge, then In my top tub, I put rats in it cuz at the expo I bought 8, and stuck them in there. Now all my snakes are biting at me and getting defensive when I go to open the rack, is it because I put rats so close to them so they’re always smelling food ?. There’s one left. And after one of them eats it I’m Cleaning the tub out and not putting any more in there
@WolffPaccx4 жыл бұрын
And I put my male and female banana together, they both were being a little odd the male was striking at me, I got him In her tub and they’ve been just staring at each other in striking positions
@josded4 жыл бұрын
If they smell food constantly, and they will eat as often as you offer food, the first warm thing they see (your hand) they will consider food. Snakes competing for food wont be interested much in breeding as they will consider each other competition for their next meal. As far as I know.
@WolffPaccx4 жыл бұрын
josded thanks a lot man, so if I get that rack cleaned and that rat out of there will that get rid of the smell for good? Or any tips for me to get that rat smell out of my closet
@josded4 жыл бұрын
@@WolffPaccx generally, yes. Clean it out really good with soap and water, then spray it down with something like chlorhexadine to kill any odor-causing bacteria. Wipe clean and then rinse again with water for good measure and the scent will be gone. What you are doing is a good tactic if you want your snakes to be ready to eat. It is called "prescenting" and is normally done the day of a live feed, or as a F/T mouse unthaws.
@josded4 жыл бұрын
@@WolffPaccx if you are really paranoid that the smell has infested other parts of the closet, buy one of those baking soda fridge packs and set it somewhere where your snakes will not be in danger of contacting it. It is a passive odor filtration system and wont leave the fridge pack if you open it correctly. It should eliminate the rat odor completely, but unless your rats escaped or somehow shot pee or estrus outside of that bin, this step is completely unnecessary. The scent should go away entirely on its own, and if it doesn't, the absolute safest thing to do is to locate the pee, droppings, fur, or whatever is smelling up the place and remove it. Keep in mind that baking soda is a fine powder and can be a lung irritant for snakes if not handled properly. Never use loose baking soda to deodorize, just to be safe.

@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures4 жыл бұрын
Co Dominants are tricky, if I had fifty females I could produce hundreds of Bamboos and tank the price in a single season. Can't do that with recessives. Most big breeders know better and even with codoms will only produce a limited amount to keep the prices from really falling fast. Still, there's too much risk with a co dominant gene to guarantee it will hold it's price in the coming years. A collection with a mix of genes is the best, some fall fast, some hold on strong.

Ball pythons are HORRIBLE investments. For those of you who are new. Here is where ball pythons used to be so you can see how much they have plummeted. Why? Several reasons but greed mostly. 😂i bought a spider ball in 05? (Somewhere around then) for 40k from NERD. Bred it to a Ghost, Albino. Produced the first spider het ghost (for sale). I put that baby male up for sale for 75k. I got offered 75k in trade from Tim Rainwater (rainwater albino geckos). Well one of those animals in the trade was a new snake called a "yellowbelly" 😂. It was valued at 4k. I got $20k wired into my account within 33 minutes of puting it up for sale. I got $89k Total for a Spider 100% het ghost. What is the moral to this story? BALL PYTHONS ARE HORRIBLE INVESTMENTS FOR LONG TERM. .. what is the cost of a 100% spider het ghost now and a yellow belly? Actually even for the last 5-10 years. Their prices have plummeted. Too many people, yeah yeah "supply and demand". No, its people that arent business people that are hobbyists trying to sustain a "financial market". It was never going to do well from the start. Morphs are only worth buying when youre the first few people. And Africa is spent, there is rarely something new coming out of there. I used to import from Ghana, we don't even bother anymore. Normal "RARE" SNAKES are the best investments. Look at snakes as a stock. See how many are out there. Etc ...
